Book excerpt: The Dark God brooded in the crystal prison. He had been confined for aeons, but what is time to a God. His thoughts, as ever, go back to the time when the child Goddess Lahaina had lured him into this place, with talk of love, of bonding, of bringing forth a new generation of Gods that would rule the world. He smiled to himself, he had no sooner entered when the trap had been sprung. He had watched her as the crystal started to solidify around him, blocking all contact with his minions. He had tried in vain to use the power of the Gods to destroy the prison, but to no avail. His minions had found him, tried to break through to him, but nothing would scratch the surface. He had tried to reason with the other Gods, but none would answer his call, no, he was alone. Then a strange thing had happened, one of his minions had come to the cave to pray and had sacrificed a slave to him. To his amusement a small crack had appeared in the crystal, almost unseen by the human eye, but his eyes could see it. He had sent his thoughts out to his underlings, passing some of his power to his loyal clan chief Dee'Kang. Now all sacrifices to him brought more of the cracks, soon, very soon he would be free. his smile grows, he would have his revenge on the other Gods, they would bow or die. He would have the child Goddess at his feet, begging for her life and the life of her woodland elves. This was his world, and he would have it back. The humans that seemed to have expanded their lands would all be sacrificed to him; they had contaminated the land they walked on. they were an infestation that would be eradicated. The Dark God stood inside the brilliance of the crystal, watching as the light bounced of the shards, sending the broken colours bouncing of the walls of the cavern he was in. He had been held stationery for so long he could not remember what it was like to move. He tried, he concentrated on his finger, sending all his power to the fingertip, one word, "MOVE." At first nothing happened, he did not expect anything, he had tried this before. But he could feel something, something at the end of the finger, the nail, it moved. Just slowly at first, then a noise, the sound like the ringing of a bell, as his nail hit the crystal. A loud laugh escaped his lips, his plan was working the prison was failing. The child Goddess Lahaina heard the noise, a noise that told her the prison she had erected to imprison the Dark God was failing. She had sent her thoughts out to the other Gods, calling a meeting. She watched as the other Gods arrived, Dealius, the God of Learning, Larmmaer the God of the underworld, Derang God of the monsters. The others arrived in ones and twos, finally the God of the humans Ailier. She quickly filled them in on what was happening and that the crystal prison was failing and that the Dark God would soon be free. predictably Derang stood, looked around then disappeared, his loyalties lying with his maker. The others listened as she walked around her domain the sun warming the ground they sat on. she had watch for years as the minions had grown in strength, watched as the monsters were bred, now they would put their plan into action and invade. The other Gods conferred, all coming to the same conclusion, Lahaina would take on the task. She bowed to them, as the prophecy came into life at that moment. She watched it as it turned and spun into being, the lines of power stretching across space and time, to take the ones that would be needed. Now she knew who the players were, who would be the champions of light and who would be the champions of dark. The time was now, the prophecy had started to weave its threads, entangling those who would fight, bringing forth the one who would challenge the Dark God himself, the one called Sabre.
