Skirdo, is a Doctor of Philosophical Sciences and has earned the title of Professor. In the 1960's he held the chair of Marxism-Leninism at the Military Engineering Academy named in honor of V. V. Kuybyshev and later was assigned as senior instructor at the Soviet Union's highest military educational institution, the General Staff Academy. Upon retirement from active duty in 1972, he joined Moscow University's Institute of the Economy named in honor of G. V. Plekhanov. Skirdo thus wrote this book while teaching at the General Staff Academy and probably incorporated into it some of the material he was presenting to the future leadership of the Soviet Armed Forces.
