Book excerpt: Hi, I¿m known as Pastor Tonya Morrison now but ten years ago I was known as Tonya Morrison a young prostitute. That¿s something that I¿d been doing ever since I was sixteen years old. I¿m now twenty-six. Truth be told I¿ve been through some stuff, I¿ve sold my body for money, drugs, and favors, I¿ve worked in a club as a nude stripper, yes I¿ve been down some dark paths in my life, I was raped not one time but twice the second time I thought that I was going to die at the hands of my attackers. I lost my mama to death and lost my daddy to the Federal State Prison. But by the Grace of God I¿m still standing better than I was before, because you see I found someone who saved me. Someone who helped me make sense of it all. To some people, I¿m just another sad story to listen to but to other people I¿m a living and a walking testimony in how the Lord Jesus Christ can save, heal and deliver anyone. To God be all The Glory!
Book Synopsis I Heart Sex Workers by : Lia Claire Scholl
Download or read book I Heart Sex Workers written by Lia Claire Scholl and published by Chalice Press. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paying for sex - engaging in "the oldest profession" - is everywhere, even in your church. The factors leading individuals into sex work are as varied as hair colors, yet sex workers are viewed as powerless individuals who must be rescued. I Heart Sex Workers offers another perspective, one where the characters defy stereotypes and solutions are hard to find. Author Lia Scholl firmly believes the Christian response to sex work should be one of building agency for women, through education, through fighting injustice, by listening to the voices of sex workers. I Heart Sex Workers examines the forces leading individuals into prostitution, whether through coercion, choice, or circumstance. And it provides a Christian response, answering the question, "Are you my neighbor?" How do we respond to woman trading sex for a place to live tonight when she asks, "Where will I sleep?" This book discusses these issues and many more.
Book Synopsis A Prostitute No Longer by : Rev. Lisa R. Pate
Download or read book A Prostitute No Longer written by Rev. Lisa R. Pate and published by Listening Ear Publications LLC. This book was released on 2021-11 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my book, A Prostitute No Longer, I delve into the life I experienced growing up, layer by layer, as a girl without a father in a home with unintentionally relaxed boundaries and how this, along with my dysfunctional choices, lead to a journey of drug addiction and prostitution. I desire to show not only the origins of some of the mental and emotional toxins that women and men deal with such as rejection, fear, anger, shame and guilt; specifically for me, how all of this compounded and developed as well as manifested into low self-esteem and caused me to make choices that were detrimental and paralyzing to my destiny. God spoke over my life, I did not cause this but I will use this to bring me glory out of a life that seemed to be unrepairable. God repaired the unrepairable! God fixed the unfixable! God regulated my mind and I kneel before Him as I stand before you as a Holy Woman of God, assured of His covering and confident of His calling.

Book excerpt: With no-holds-barred honesty and poignant storytelling, Nate Larkin introduces a model of community and friendship that is reinvigorating men's ministry across the country, a model he calls The Samson Society. Too many men see the biblical hero Samson as their model for manhood--a rugged individualist of the highest order. Yet, Samson's solitary successes were eventually overcome by moral weaknesses. Larkin, through the story of his own past and the stories of those in The Samson Society, offers a radical, refreshing alternative.

Book Synopsis From Priest's Whore to Pastor's Wife by : Marjorie Elizabeth Plummer
Download or read book From Priest's Whore to Pastor's Wife written by Marjorie Elizabeth Plummer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 13 June 1525, Martin Luther married Katharina von Bora, a former nun, in a private ceremony officiated by city preacher Johann Bugenhagen. Whilst Luther was not the first former monk or Reformer to marry, his marriage immediately became one of the iconic episodes of the Protestant Reformation. From that point on, the marital status of clergy would be a pivotal dividing line between the Catholic and Protestant churches. Tackling the early stages of this divide, this book provides a fresh assessment of clerical marriage in the first half of the sixteenth century, when the debates were undecided and the intellectual and institutional situation remained fluid and changeable. It investigates the way that clerical marriage was received, and viewed in the dioceses of Mainz and Magdeburg under Archbishop Albrecht of Brandenburg from 1513 to 1545. By concentrating on a cross-section of rural and urban settings from three key regions within this territory - Saxony, Franconia, and Swabia - the study is able to present a broad comparison of reactions to this contentious issue. Although the marital status of the clergy remains perhaps the most identifiable difference between Protestant and Roman Catholic churches, remarkably little research has been done on how the shift from a "celibate" to a married clergy took place during the Reformation in Germany or what reactions such a move elicited. As such, this book will be welcomed by all those wishing to gain greater insight, not only into the theological debates, but also into the interactions between social identity, governance, and religious practice.
