Book excerpt: Ever since the first EMT book was written, there have been two philosophies chosen by the authors for the reader: One type is to provide for the minimal required information and to meet only the minimum standards required by the profession. At the other end of the spectrum is the philosophy that is written to be all-inclusive. This will give the student reader (and ultimately patient care provider) the strongest knowledge possible. If you or your family were to become sick or injured in the middle of the night, in the blowing snow or in the cold rain, do you want the EMT taking care of you to be the very best they possibly could be or simply one who has taken the course to "get by"?This book is not a "get by" book. This book is not written by "get by" authors. This book is not edited by "get by" editors. Just open this book and look at the four editorsfour better people in the United States to write such a book could not have been chosen. Norman E. This book was released on 2021-02-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pharmacology doesn't have to be hard! Here's why: At Medical Creations, we are firm believers of the notion that the best way to learn a new topic is first to understand the fundamentals. Once you know the fundamentals, you will be able to understand the bigger picture. If you don't understand the bigger picture, forcing yourself to memorize any details becomes that much harder. Our Pharmacology book is meant to give you a good understanding of the topic before you can dive into the details with other, more extensive pharmacology books. The goal is to have you understand rather than memorize. It's a great alternative to the thicker and more expensive pharmacology books if you are studying for an exam and you just want a quick recap, or if you are just starting out and you want an overview. The purpose of this pharmacology book is to serve as a reference manual and a comprehensive study guide for medical, nursing, and paramedic students. For easy understanding of this complex subject, the book has been divided into multiple units based on each body system. The addition of multiple-choice questions will make it easier for you to remember the information from previous chapters. The key therapeutic drug classes for each major system have been outlined in separate chapters. Bullet points and tables make the content easy to understand. Pharmacology is a constantly evolving field, and new drugs are being developed every day. The main aim of this book is to familiarize the reader with the different categories of drugs. The most commonly prescribed drugs are described here, but the book is by no means exhaustive and does not cover all the drugs available today. For detailed descriptions of the latest drugs on the market, and less commonly prescribed drugs, the reader is referred to one of the more exhaustive textbooks of pharmacology. This book will help you: * ..Have a clear understanding of pharmacology * ..Learn about different groups of drugs, the pharmacokinetics, and the pharmacodynamics * ..Find pharmacology much more bearable Go to the top-right of the page and click "Add to Cart"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Without warning stroke can paralyze, blind, or kill. Some victims recover, but many do not and may even suffer another disabling or fatal attack. The drug known as tPA can drastically reduce the long-term disability associated with stroke, but despite its near-miraculous capabilities and the growing support of most neurologists, it has been slow to win acceptance as the standard of care in emergency departments nationwide. tPA for Stroke chronicles how this remarkable drug came to be tested in stroke victims, its early years in development by the pharmaceutical giant Genentech, and its eventual marginalization due to a convergence of unfavorable political, fiscal, and medical circumstances. For instance, initially many stroke specialists were unconvinced that the drug's benefits outweigh its risks (tPA was originally developed and is still used for cardiac patients). Moreover, neurologists called upon to assess stroke patients have not typically been trained to make decisions in emergency settings--and tPA must be given within a scant few hours after stroke. These and other factors have continued to delay the drug's universal acceptance as the most effective treatment available, and to hamper the general public's awareness that such a treatment exists--a troubling state of affairs that Zivin and Simmons argue must be rectified. Instilling the knowledge that anyone, at any time, is susceptible to stroke, from the old and infirm to the young and healthy, tPA for Stroke is a clarion call to awareness in a rapidly changing healthcare environment in which stroke, long a disease in thrall to resignation and pessimism, must be neglected no longer.
