He married Rachel Fisher in 1813. After her death he married Mrs. Esther Strang. He died Apr. 21, 1875 in Seneca Falls, New York. John and Rachel Norris had twelve children born to them. Includes genealogy of Job Norris, a native of New Jersey, who married Miss Lindsay, daughter of General Eleazer Lindsay. Includes descendants of Michael John Tout (1844-1925), born in Bridgewater, Sommerset, England, and Lydia Elizabeth Avis (1845-1923) who was born in Minehead, Sommerset, England. Both died in Lansing, Ingham, Michigan. Descendants live in Michigan, New Jersey, Tennessee and elsewhere.

They who from any cause neglected my oft repeated and urgent request to impart desired knowledge, may, when too late, regret their indifference. I experienced considerable difficulty in securing a sufficient number of subscribers in the Norris family to liquidate the expense of publication, not to mention the expense of prepara tion, of this book. At this critical juncture Hon. Lyman Decatur Norris, of Grand Rapids, Mich., very wisely and generously aided in a substantial manner, and made sure the publication of this work. Book excerpt: Nicholas Norris (ca. 1640-ca. 1721), according to family tradition was born in Ireland of English ancestry and was a stowawy on an emigrant ship to America at age fourteen. He was an earlier settler of Hampton, New Hampshire. He married Sarah Coxe at Hampton in 1663. They had nine children, 1664-1683, all but the first born at Exeter, New Hampshire. Descendants of his sons, Moses Norris (b. 1670) and Jonathan Norris (1673-1718), lived in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio, Illinois, and elsewhere.
