This book was released on 2009 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author proposes a special nonlinear quantum field theory. In a linear approximation, this theory can be presented in the form of the Standard Model (SM) theory. The richer physical structure of this nonlinear theory makes it possible to exceed the limits of SM and remove its known incompleteness. We show that nonlinearity of the field is critical for the appearance of charges and masses of elementary particles, for confinement of quarks, and many other effects, whose description within the framework of SM causes difficulties. In this case, the mechanism of generation of masses is mathematically similar to Higgs's mechanism, but it is considerably simpler and does not include the additional particles. The proposed theory does not examine the theory of gravity, but reveals the mathematical similarity of the nonlinear field equations of both theories. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students studying the theory of elementary particles, as well as for specialists working in this field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometrical notions and methods play an important role in both classical and quantum field theory, and a connection is a deep structure which apparently underlies the gauge-theoretical models in field theory and mechanics. This book is an encyclopaedia of modern geometric methods in theoretical physics. It collects together the basic mathematical facts about various types of connections, and provides a detailed exposition of relevant physical applications. It discusses the modern issues concerning the gauge theories of fundamental fields. The authors have tried to give all the necessary mathematical background, thus making the book self-contained. This book should be useful to graduate students, physicists and mathematicians who are interested in the issue of deep interrelations between theoretical physics and geometry. keywords:Lagrangian Field Theory;Hamiltonian Field Theory;Classical Mechanics;BRST Formalism;Topological Field Theories;Non-Commutative Geometry;Theoretical Physics;Mathematical Physics;Fibre Bundle;Connection;Jet Manifold;Gauge Theory;Gravitation;Theory;Quantum Field;Geometric Quantization;Supergeometry;BRST;Theory “this book certainly offers a valuable supplement to the existing literature on the impact of connection theory on theoretical physics.” Mathematical Reviews

Book excerpt: This book, which presents a new view of quantum field theory, may serve as a research monograph and an alternative textbook examining topics which are not usually treated in conventional works. The first part contains a new nonperturbative regularization and probability interpretation, as well as a new treatment of effective dynamics for quantum fields based on algebraic representation theory in functional spaces. In the second part these methods are applied to selected topics in high energy physics. In a generalization of de Broglie's fusion theory, gauge bosons and fermions are considered as composites and the basic dynamics of the electro-weak sector of the standard model is derived as an effective theory from a regularized spinor fields model. Linear gravity is discussed in the same way. Audience: This volume will appeal to researchers concerned with the foundation of the theory of matter and forces including gravitation. It will also be of interest to those working with quantum field theoretic methods in various disciplines, such as particle physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, and relativity.

Book excerpt: The path integral approach has proved extremely useful for the understanding of the most complex problems in quantum field theory, cosmology, and condensed matter physics. Path Integrals in Physics: Volume II, Quantum Field Theory, Statistical Physics and other Modern Applications covers the fundamentals of path integrals, both the Wiener and Feynman types, and their many applications in physics. The book deals with systems that have an infinite number of degrees of freedom. It discusses the general physical background and concepts of the path integral approach used, followed by a detailed presentation of the most typical and important applications as well as problems with either their solutions or hints how to solve them. Each chapter is self-contained and can be considered as an independent textbook. It provides a comprehensive, detailed, and systematic account of the subject suitable for both students and experienced researchers.

Book excerpt: An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory is a textbook intended for the graduate physics course covering relativistic quantum mechanics, quantum electrodynamics, and Feynman diagrams. The authors make these subjects accessible through carefully worked examples illustrating the technical aspects of the subject, and intuitive explanations of what is going on behind the mathematics. After presenting the basics of quantum electrodynamics, the authors discuss the theory of renormalization and its relation to statistical mechanics, and introduce the renormalization group. This discussion sets the stage for a discussion of the physical principles that underlie the fundamental interactions of elementary particle physics and their description by gauge field theories.

Nevertheless, as numerous examples are known in which exploration of the land where physics and mathematics overlap (and which quantum field theory definitely belongs to) resulted in important developments in mathematics, many mathematicians may also find this book interesting and even inspiring.'MathSciNetThis book is devoted to the subject of quantum field theory. It is divided into two volumes. The first can serve as a textbook on the main techniques and results of quantum field theory, while the second treats more recent developments, in particular the subject of quantum groups and noncommutative geometry, and their interrelation. The first volume is directed at graduate students who want to learn the basic facts about quantum field theory. It begins with a gentle introduction to classical field theory, including the standard model of particle physics, general relativity, and also supergravity. The transition to quantized fields is performed with path integral techniques, by means of which the one-loop renormalization of a self-interacting scalar quantum field, of quantum electrodynamics, and the asymptotic freedom of quantum chromodynamics is treated. In the last part of the first volume, the application of path integral methods to systems of quantum statistical mechanics is covered. The book ends with a rather detailed investigation of the fractional quantum Hall effect, and gives a stringent derivation of Laughlin's trial ground state wave function as an exact ground state. The second volume covers more advanced themes. In particular Connes' noncommutative geometry is dealt with in some considerable detail; the presentation attempts to acquaint the physics community with the substantial achievements that have been reached by means of this approach towards the understanding of the elusive Higgs particle. The book also covers the subject of quantum groups and its application to the fractional quantum Hall effect, as it is for this paradigmatic physical system that noncommutative geometry and quantum groups can be brought together.

Book excerpt: Multi-photon excitation states of poly-atomic molecules undergoing a self-interaction via Kerr effect related processes are of great interest today. Their successful study must be both analytical and by means of modern quantum field theoretical tools. This book deals with these and related topics by developing modern quantum field theory methods for the analysis of radiative states in a nonlinear quantum-optical system. These lecture notes are ideally suited to graduate mathematical physics and physics students, but can also be of interest to mathematicians involved in applied physics problems, and physicists and chemists studying phenomena related with modern quantum-optical devices.
