Book Synopsis Another Way of Knowing by : Miller Mair
Download or read book Another Way of Knowing written by Miller Mair and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miller Mair had a key role in the establishment of Personal Construct Psychology in Britain. He also ran a busy clinical psychology department for more than 20 years. Another Way of Knowing's underlying structure is of an autobiography - one which is both 'intellectual' and 'personal', the two modes inevitably intertwined. His psychotherapeutic thinking grew a long way out from its PCP foundation, though it stayed deeply rooted in it. But Miller's supple and questing sensibility, seemingly there from the start but powerfully validated by George Kelly's work, reached out towards much wider horizons than those of psychology and psychotherapy. There is much in this book, implicitly or explicitly, about politics, science and scientism, spirituality, the arts, the human condition in general. It is also a book about writing the book, and the often anguished struggle Miller had with it.
Book Synopsis Varieties of Psychological Inquiry - Volume 1 by : Anab Whitehouse
Download or read book Varieties of Psychological Inquiry - Volume 1 written by Anab Whitehouse and published by Bilquees Press. This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Varieties of Psychological Inquiry' (Volumes 1 and 2) consists of twenty-five essays (distributed across two volumes) that venture into various facets of psychology - ranging from: Freud. Jung and Sullivan, to: Piaget, Sheldrake, and beyond. Among the topics explored are: Anxiety, dissociation, abuse, charisma, developmental psychology, the 'God gene', SSRIs, memory, chronobiology, neurobiology, consciousness, and holographic theories of mind. While no particular theory of psychology is espoused during the pages of this two volume work, a variety of theoretical and empirical issues are critically explored and reflected upon in considerable detail. In a sense, the direction in which the essays in these two books point is toward epistemological horizons where what is known (possibly) seeks to merge with what is not, yet, known.
Book Synopsis Terrapsychological Inquiry by : Craig Chalquist
Download or read book Terrapsychological Inquiry written by Craig Chalquist and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrapsychological Inquiry is a qualitative research methodology seeking a form of inquiry that takes seriously our intense inner responses to the state of the natural world. Terrapsychology is a theory and practice approach that studies, from the standpoint of lived experience, how the world gets into the heart. Oceans and skies, trees and hills, rivers and soils, and even built things like houses, cities, ports, and planes: How do they show up for us inwardly? How do our moods, feelings, and dreams reflect what happens in the world? Terrapsychological Inquiry evolved over a decade of experimentation by graduate students, instructors, workshop leaders and presenters, and other embodied creatives to offer a truly Earth-honoring mode of story-based qualitative inquiry, one that changes all involved from passive spectators of the doings of the world into active, sensitive participants. Learn how to use this methodology of reenchantment in a variety of settings inside and outside academia, and by doing so reenter an animate world. Written in an engaging and accessible style, this introduction to a new research methodology will be of great interest to students and scholars of environmental psychology, ecotherapy, and environment and sustainability studies more generally.

Book Synopsis On Hijacking Science by : Edwin E. Gantt
Download or read book On Hijacking Science written by Edwin E. Gantt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the origins, presence, and implications of scientistic thinking in psychology. Scientism embodies the claim that only knowledge attained by means of natural scientific methods counts as valid and valuable. This perspective increasingly dominates thinking and practice in psychology and is seldom acknowledged as anything other than standard scientific practice. This book seeks to make this intellectual movement explicit and to detail the very real limits in both role and reach of science in psychology. The critical chapters in this volume present an alternative perspective to the scholarly mainstreams of the discipline and will be of value to scholars and students interested in the scientific status and the philosophical bases of psychology as a discipline.
