Book Synopsis Nature Inspired Optimization Techniques for Image Processing Applications by : Jude Hemanth
Download or read book Nature Inspired Optimization Techniques for Image Processing Applications written by Jude Hemanth and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a platform for exploring nature-inspired optimization techniques in the context of imaging applications. Optimization has become part and parcel of all computational vision applications, and since the amount of data used in these applications is vast, the need for optimization techniques has increased exponentially. These accuracy and complexity are a major area of concern when it comes to practical applications. However, these optimization techniques have not yet been fully explored in the context of imaging applications. By presenting interdisciplinary concepts, ranging from optimization to image processing, the book appeals to a broad readership, while also encouraging budding engineers to pursue and employ innovative nature-inspired techniques for image processing applications.

Book Synopsis Image Bite Politics by : Maria Elizabeth Grabe
Download or read book Image Bite Politics written by Maria Elizabeth Grabe and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009-03-02 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image Bite Politics is the first book to systematically assess the visual presentation of presidential candidates in network news coverage of elections and to connect these visual images with shifts in public opinion. Presenting the results of a comprehensive visual analysis of general election news from 1992-2004, encompassing four presidential campaigns, the authors highlight the remarkably potent influence of television images when it comes to evaluating leaders. The book draws from a variety of disciplines, including political science, behavioral biology, cognitive neuroscience, and media studies, to investigate the visual framing of elections in an incisive, fresh, and interdisciplinary fashion. Moreover, the book presents findings that are counterintuitive and challenge widely held assumptions--yet are supported by systematic data. For example, Republicans receive consistently more favorable visual treatment than Democrats, countering the conventional wisdom of a "liberal media bias"; and image bites are more prevalent, and in some elections more potent, in shaping voter opinions of candidates than sound bites. Finally, the authors provide a foundation for promoting visual literacy among news audiences and bring the importance of visual analysis to the forefront of research.
Book Synopsis Presidential Campaigns And American Self Images by : Arthur H Miller
Download or read book Presidential Campaigns And American Self Images written by Arthur H Miller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores a central political paradox: why American scholars, journalists, and citizens periodically question the viability of their presidential electoral system and yet believe that presidential elections are our best hope for tomorrow. The book argues that the key to understanding this paradox lies in the concept of "self-image," exploring relationships between campaign activities and political culture. After presenting an introduction to the history of presidential campaigning and a theory of political image, the book arranges essays in three parts: images centered on candidates, mass media, and the public. A final essay assesses explanations of the contrasts between the 1988 and 1992elections and suggests tomorrow's research agenda.

Book Synopsis The Nature of Unidentified Galactic High-Energy Gamma-Ray Sources by : Alberto Carramiñana
Download or read book The Nature of Unidentified Galactic High-Energy Gamma-Ray Sources written by Alberto Carramiñana and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Energetic Gamma-Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) instru ment on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory left as a legacy its Third Catalog of High Energy Gamma-Ray Sources, whose detections include a large number of blazars, some pulsars, the Large Magellanic Cloud and a solar flare. Most of the newly discovered objects - a majority of the catalog -are unidentified sources, with a clearly predominant Galactic population. Are all these radio-quiet pulsars, like Geminga, or is there a novel type of celestial object, awaiting identification? In spite of the limited angular resolution provided by EGRET and COMPTEL, there is still much to learn about unidentified ,-ray sources: correlation studies, multiwavelength observations and theoretical work can provide valuable clues, specially if these efforts are carried out in a coordinated manner. The aim of this workshop, held from October 9 to 11, 2000, at the Instituto N acional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica, at Tonantzintla, Mexico, was to gather experts on the subject, including observational as tronomers specialized in other regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, in an effort to address the question of the Nature of Galactic high-energy gamma-ray sources, both from the theoretical and observational perspec tive, and elaborate schemes for future identification studies which can make use of existing and forthcoming facilities.

Book Synopsis Image Schemas and Concept Invention by : Maria M. Hedblom
Download or read book Image Schemas and Concept Invention written by Maria M. Hedblom and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-13 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the author's theoretical framework builds on linguistic and psychological research, arguing that similar image-schematic notions should be grouped together into interconnected family hierarchies, with complexity increasing with regard to the addition of spatial and conceptual primitives. She introduces an image schema logic as a language to model image schemas, and she shows how the semantic content of image schemas can be used to improve computational concept invention. The book will be of value to researchers in artificial intelligence, cognitive science, psychology, and creativity.

Book Synopsis Recovering Nature by : John P. O’Callaghan
Download or read book Recovering Nature written by John P. O’Callaghan and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recovery of nature has been a unifying and enduring aim of the writings of Ralph McInerny, Michael P. Grace Professor of Medieval Studies at the University of Notre Dame, director of the Jacques Maritain Center, former director of the Medieval Institute, and author of numerous works in philosophy, literature, and journalism. While many of the fads that have plagued philosophy and theology during the last half-century have come and gone, recent developments suggest that McInerny’s commitment to Aristotelian-Thomism was boldly, if quietly, prophetic. In his persistent, clear, and creative defenses of natural theology and natural law, McInerny has appealed to nature to establish a dialogue between theists and non-theists, to contribute to the moral and political renewal of American culture, and particularly to provide some of the philosophical foundations for Catholic theology. This volume brings together essays by an impressive group of scholars, including William Wallace, O.P., Jude P. Dougherty, John Haldane, Thomas DeKoninck, Alasdair MacIntyre, David Solomon, Daniel McInerny, Janet E. Smith, Michael Novak, Stanley Hauerwas, Laura Garcia, Alvin Plantinga, Alfred J. Freddoso, and David B. Burrell, C.S.C.
