Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Natural Gas Industry, 1921, Vol. 15 Natural gas is becoming scarce, the demands for natural gas are now greater than the available supply. When the present supplies are exhausted w must go back to the more expensive and inferior manufactured gas. The use of natural gas is not an inalienable right but a privilege enjoyed by about ten per cent of our entire population in the United States, and used in a most extravagant and wasteful manner with no regard for the future, and not appreciated until it is gone. The above statements showing that the natural gas supply is being depleted in present gas fields, is simply a repetition of what has taken place in former gas fields. I shall call your attention to a few important cases where former prolific gas fields are now extinct. The Findlay field in Ohio was once a noted gas terri tory. Today little or no natural gas is produced there from. A few years ago Indiana. Which had refused to admit that the gas supply was exhaustible until too late, was forced to abandon the use of natural gas. Today. Indiana gets what little gas it has from other states. Book excerpt: Petroleum engineering now has its own true classic handbook that reflects the profession's status as a mature major engineering discipline. Formerly titled the Practical Petroleum Engineer's Handbook, by Joseph Zaba and W.T. Doherty (editors), this new, completely updated two-volume set is expanded and revised to give petroleum engineers a comprehensive source of industry standards and engineering practices. It is packed with the key, practical information and data that petroleum engineers rely upon daily. The result of a fifteen-year effort, this handbook covers the gamut of oil and gas engineering topics to provide a reliable source of engineering and reference information for analyzing and solving problems. It also reflects the growing role of natural gas in industrial development by integrating natural gas topics throughout both volumes. More than a dozen leading industry experts-academia and industry-contributed to this two-volume set to provide the best , most comprehensive source of petroleum engineering information available.

This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 982 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of the Petroleum Industry, Vol. 1 of 2 Wherever petroleum occurs in nature, natural gas is generally found in the same locality or region. Gas, however, is less restricted in its distribution than is oil, and numerous gas pools exist where no petroleum occurs in close proximity. Because of the relationship of natural gas to petroleum, the two substances must, to a consider able extent, be considered together. Both petroleum and natural gas are among the great industrial resources of the world and the countries which possess them in large quantities are exceedingly fortunate. The fact that these substances have not yet been developed in a particular locality is rarely proof of their absence, as no year passes without the discovery of new and often unsuspected fields or pools. The occurrence of oil and gas is widespread, no stratified rock being so young, and scarcely any so old, as absolutely to preclude their existence. Consequently, any country in which geological conditions are favorable is warranted in exerting every effort and undertaking great expense to investigate and determine its resources in petroleum and natural gas. In this outline of the occurrence of petroleum the numerous references made use of are given credit where possible. In addition to those specifically mentioned there are certain general sources of information, such as the report of S. F. Peckham entitled, The Production, Technology and Uses of Petroleum and its Products, in volume 10 Of the Tenth Census of the United States, 1880, pages 1-319' A Treatise on Petroleum by Sir Boverton Redwood, London, 1913, three volumes; Petroleum Mining and Oil Field Development, by Arthur Beeby Thompson, London, 1916, 648 pages; the annual statis tical reports in the Mineral Resources series of the United States Geological Survey, by David T. Day, S. H. Shotwell, Joseph D. Weeks, F. H. Oliphant, W. T. Griswold and John D. Northrop, and many other Geological Survey references of a general nature. In this chapter the word oil is frequently used as being sufficiently synonymous with petroleum for the subject matter in hand. Book excerpt: This report sunnnarizes the research by an Energy Modeling Forum working group on the evolution of the North American natural gas markets between now and 2010. The group's findings are based partly on the results of a set of economic models of the natural gas industry that were run for four scenarios representing significantly different conditions: two oil price scenarios (upper and lower), a smaller total US resource base (low US resource case), and increased potential gas demand for electric generation (high US demand case). Several issues, such as the direction of regulatory policy and the size of the gas resource base, were analyzed separately without the use of models.
