Download or read book The National Disability Insurance Scheme written by Mhairi Cowden and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (known commonly as the NDIS) was introduced as a radical new way of funding disability services in Australia. It is a rare moment in politics and policy making that an idea as revolutionary, ambitious and expensive as the NDIS makes it into its implementation phase. Not surprising, then, that the NDIS has been described by many as the biggest social shift in Australia since Medicare. This book will be a key text for scholars and public policy professionals wishing to understand the NDIS, how it was designed, and lessons learned through its introduction and roll-out. The book addresses how the NDIS has intersected with particular cohorts and sectors, and some of the challenges that have arisen. It highlights the experiences of people with disability through a collection of personal stories from participants and families in the NDIS. The key insights from this large scale public policy experiment are relevant for anyone interested in social change in Australia, or internationally.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Governance and Public Management for Social Policy by : Karen J. Baehler
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Governance and Public Management for Social Policy written by Karen J. Baehler and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-16 with total page 1065 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public administration plays an integral role at every stage of social policy creation and execution. Program operators' management decisions shape policymakers' perceptions of what can and should be accomplished through social programs, while public administrators wield considerable power to mobilize tangible and intangible resources and fill gaps in policy designs. Furthermore, the cumulative effects of public administrators' daily activities directly influence outcomes for program participants, and may shift policy itself. Location also matters to social policy, as those same administrators are expected to innovate continuously in response to shifting local and national conditions, including changes in budgetary allocations, client needs and capacities, and public attitudes. This Handbook will aim to capture what is being learned across six geographical regions: Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S. and Canada. Specifically, each regional section will contain 6-10 chapters canvassing a particular set of promising practices or emerging challenges at the regional or sub-regional level, in addition to a brief overview written by the section editor. The regional sections will be flanked by integrative chapters. As a whole, the volume contains 65 chapters.
Download or read book The New Leviathan written by Andrew Baker and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Publisher's description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has been touted as the biggest and most expensive social reform since Medicare. The Productivity Commission initially estimated that the NDIS would provide disability care and support services to 411,000 people at a cost of $13.5 billion (gross) every year. However, subsequent estimates have revised the cost of the scheme to more than $22 billion (gross) every year when the scheme is fully operational in 2018-19. This report argues that this figure does not adequately reflect the ongoing cost of the NDIS in first few years following full implementation. Based on case studies of similar schemes in Australia and overseas, it is clear that the government expenditure on the NDIS will grow rapidly, at around 6% every year; by 2023-24, the NDIS will provide disability care and support services to around 500,000 people at a cost of approximately $29 billion (gross). This report also outlines a number of risks to the scheme that have the potential to drive expenditure on the scheme even higher. The NDIS will be the new leviathan of the Australian welfare state.

Book excerpt: DO YOUR EMPLOYEES FEEL HEARD, VALUED AND SUPPORTED? Over the last six years the Australian disability sector has experienced massive disruption due to the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. In this entirely new marketplace, an organisation's employees are now its most important asset and greatest competitive differentiator. Fran Connelley, author of the bestseller, How to Thrive under the NDIS, turns her attention to workplace culture at a critical time for the Australian disability sector. It is culture that enables people to perform at their best and, in the face of a Royal Commission and the NDIS Commission, it is culture that must become the key business driver for providers in the maturing marketplace. Workplace Culture and the NDIS is written for CEOs looking for practical tools to support their employees and build a vibrant, change tolerant workplace culture. It includes interviews with CEOs and thought leaders. Using jargon free language, Fran outlines a marketer's approach to organisational change based on an authentic, living brand.
Book Synopsis Navigating Social Security Disability Programs by : James Randall Noblitt
Download or read book Navigating Social Security Disability Programs written by James Randall Noblitt and published by Praeger. This book was released on 2020-02-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book responds to a previously unmet need: unlocking the mysteries of Social Security disability programs and providing medical and mental health clinicians, as well as advocates, with the information necessary to act in the best interests of their clients. This text aims to bring clarity to medical and psychological health care providers so they better understand the importance of their role in disability determinations by familiarizing them with the benefits, limitations, and qualifications for Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income. Also useful for patient advocates, the authors here provide insights into the workings of Social Security, the language employed, the definitions adhered to, and the reliance on providers to respond to requests from Social Security and their patients to support their claims when warranted. Almost all medical and mental health professionals will need to interact with Social Security at some point, but will not understand the relevance or importance of their response. Much hangs on the clarity of treatment notes and opinions rendered by clinicians. Not only can their failure to respond to requests for Social Security, or to their patients in a disability case, obstruct their patients' access to benefits, it may also put a provider at risk of board censure or civil suit.
