This fabulous cache, mainly comprising gold ingots and believed to be worth millions of pounds, was first heard of in 1941 following the German blitzkrieg of Yugoslavia. Rumours abound as to what actually happened to the missing gold, and where it might be today. These include claims that it was seized by a renegade Panzer unit and hidden in the North African desert for reclamation after the war; that it was despatched to Germany as a gift for Hitler but never reached its destination; or that it was taken by Italian partisans who set sail for Corsica, where their boat mysteriously sank just offshore. This book examines the theories and reviews the various searches that have taken place over the last sixty years. This is the first book devoted to this fascinating story, and mixes a dramatic wartime tale of deceit, death, intrigue and greed with a mystery that continues to excite the imagination today. ' this is the first book devoted to this fascinatin story, and mixes a dramatic wartime tale of deceit, death, intrigue and greed'. Britain at War '..fascinating - it tracks down the route of the missing treasure, uncovering a dramatic wartime tale of deceit and intrigue. Haining looks afresh at this well-researched evidence to bring a highly readable account of what may have happened to 'Rommel's Gold'. Gun Mart magazine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During World War II, many deeply mysterious events took place in the fog and chaos of conflict. These were classified, hushed up and kept from the public eye, and yet with the recent opening of secret archives, new light has been shed on these strange circumstances. This brilliant book fills you in on these unsolved cases, teasing fact from fiction. Topics include: • The lost treasure of the Amber Room - a masterpiece made from 5,900 kg of amber which was supposedly spirited away to a secret location and never uncovered since. • The Man Who Never Was - a corpse dressed in military uniform, fitted out with fake documents who was deliberately allowed to fall into Nazi hands. His real identity is still disputed. • The murder of socialite and possible spy, Jane Horney. Her body was never discovered, and many believed she swapped identities with her friend and lookalike before her disappearance. Within these pages the reader will also discover the secrets of the Nazi Ghost Trains; the 17 British soldiers at Auschwitz; and 'the curse of Timur's Tomb'. These intriguing and often chilling conspiracies and subterfuges will leave you stunned.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During World War II, German soldiers invaded a number of countries across Europe. In these countries, the German troops plundered the gold reserves from the financial institutions as well as gold jewelry from the holocaust victims that were melted into gold bars. All the gold bars were stamped with the mark of the German central bank, the 'Reichsbank'. This story deals with two young men who had a passion for skiing. They traveled to the Alps of Europe to pursue their passion. Their journey brings them into a nest of mystery dealing with Nazi gold plundered by the German military during World War II. It deals with only a portion of the gold looted by the Germans, not all of it. It spotlights a documented story about Ida Weisenbacher, an Austrian farm girl who was ordered by a German military officer to use her farm wagon to transport several sealed crates to Lake Toplitz where the crates were sunk to the bottom of this lake. This story over time became a legend. Several attempts were made to recover the sunken crates. However, no looted gold was recovered by these attempts. During their journey, the two young men experience a taste of monastic life when they seek refuge in a Franciscan monastery during a heavy snowstorm. This monastery contains a mystery that was concealed within its walls for several decades after the end of WWII. The mystery climaxes around a race between the two American skiers and a group of Neo-Nazis who are also seeking to solve the mystery of the missing looted gold bars. Who will resolve the mystery first? Will it be two innocent American skiers enjoying a holiday in Europe? On the other hand, will it be the group of Neo Nazis? Louis F. Biagioni August 2005

Book excerpt: War is a costly business and in 1939, Germany was almost broke with its economy overheating and heading for runaway inflation. Hitler needed hard foreign currency to pay for his war machine and the only way he could get this was by selling gold that he looted from the national banks of Austria, Czechoslovakia and all the countries that were occupied after September 1939. Another source of gold was the theft of personal gold especially from the Jews, most grotesquely, the haul of dental gold which came out of the concentration camps. No neutral country would accept Reichsmarks so the gold had to be laundered through Swiss banks. The story of Swiss complicity in German war crimes is still a subject of controversy, and lawsuits. There are also questions about the parts played by other countries, particularly Portugal, in laundering stolen gold for the Nazis. The Vatican’s dealings with Hitler have often been seen as ambiguous and this book investigates the Holy See’s role in helping ship Nazi gold to South America, and how that gold might have been used to re-create the German Reich. After the war a commission was set up to recover as much gold as possible and restore it to those from whom it was stolen. This, of course, was beset by huge problems especially with regards to gold that was looted from Holocaust victims. Enormous quantities of gold and other treasures were hidden in a mine at Merkers in Thuringia which was found by the US 3rd Army in 1945, but much gold remains unaccounted for, and attempts are still ongoing to uncover supposed hidden caches, the most recent in Poland where four tons are believed to have been found by the Silesian Bridge Foundation in May of 2022. The whereabouts and disposal of the remaining stolen gold has led to numerous investigations and countless conspiracy theories. In Hitler’s Gold the author analyzes these and uncovers many of the mysteries surrounding this continuing search for the missing millions.

Book excerpt: This is an incredible story about the little known and secret order of ?The Knights of the Golden Circle? during the Civil War period, their plans to start another war, and the huge treasures they left behind. But, they had started many years before the war began with bold plans of imperialism to gain more territory for our growing nation (which brought Texas into the Union), and also with amazing plans to annex Mexico. Later, they became devout believers in the rights of the southern cause and against the North imposing it's will against them. When the Civil War started, they resorted to drastic measures and went underground to oppose the North and the Union Army with secretive and bold actions, including sabotage, infiltration of the Government, and a very efficient spy network. Many top politicians, officials, and men of importance were members. They were so effective that President Lincoln once referred to them as a ?Fifth Column? which might have been the original use of the term. After the war was over, they refused to accept the terms of the surrender and started making plans to restart the war at a later date. But they needed a great amount of money and support. So they started collecting money, gold, silver, and jewelry, plus arms and ammunition, and buried them in many parts of the country in old mining tunnels, pits and holes that they dug, and then assigned armed sentries to protect them from being found. But by the time they had amassed their fortune and supplies, World War One brought an end to their plans. Also, most of them had died off anyway by then. But the treasures they buried, which some have estimated to be worth billions of dollars, is the stuff that dreams are made of to treasure hunters. The author, who is well-known in the field of treasure hunting, learned of this immense treasure years ago, and through his research has presented this information here - - not only bringing out this little known part of American history, but also has provided much information on the treasures, including some rare and never-before-published treasure maps of some of the treasure sites.

Book excerpt: "National Treasure" is a look into the history of gold plates that were discovered in Upstate New York during the 19th Century. Questions regarding their existence and whereabouts have remained for nearly two centuries. What are the gold plates? If the existence of the plates was merely contrived, why did people in the 19th century go to great lengths to steal them? What is written on the gold plates? Did the Bible foretell anything about the plates? Has anyone seen and handled the gold plates other than Joseph Smith? Where did the plates come from? Is there archaeological and DNA evidence in support of what is written on the plates regarding a civilization that expanded across the continent of North America and beyond? Why might the gold plates be important? Where are the plates now? This is the story that provides answers to these and many more questions surrounding the mystery of a national treasure.
