In these messages, Brother Lee fights against the influence of Christianity in the practice of the church life in the Lord’s recovery. This influence has caused the recovery to suffer a downward trend toward religion. As the crystallization of human culture, religion was invented by man when he lost God. Today the influence of religion can be seen in the unfruitful practices of Christianity, especially the practice of a few leaders exercising control over other believers and annulling their function. We must change the system in our way to meet and serve, especially by encouraging and teaching the brothers and sisters to practice the meetings in their homes in a vital way with the word of God. The following three messages are from the evening sessions of the International Elders’ Training in October 1998 concerning our vision, which includes the one ministry, the one work, and the one accord. To build up the Body of Christ, all the elders need to enter into the one New Testament ministry. Based on the one ministry, there is only one work in the Lord’s recovery today. To carry out the one work in the one ministry, we all need to be in one accord. The one accord is the practical application of the oneness of the Body of Christ, and it is also the master key to every blessing in the New Testament. Following this is a series of messages concerning the grafted life, which were given in the full-time training in Anaheim in the fall of 1997. Message One covers the vision of the grafted life—God and man entering into an organic union through grafting. Message Two presents the clear view that the Christian life is not an exchanged life but a grafted life—the mingling of the human life with the divine life. Message Three stresses the fact that the grafted life is a life in the principle of incarnation. The principle of incarnation seen in the grafted life is that God enters into man and mingles Himself with man to make Himself one with man; thus, God is in man, and man is also in God. Lastly, we include reports from the English, Spanish, and Chinese radio sections concerning the radio broadcasts in these languages.

The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--contains chapters 1 through 4 of a new book, The Issue of Christ Being Glorified by the Father with the Divine Glory, which are in volume 5 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1994–1997. The chapters in this section speak of the concealed glory of Christ's divinity and the release of the glory of Christ's divinity, which issued in the incorporation of the consummated God with the regenerated believers. The purpose, goal, and aim of our migrations is to spread the Lord’s recovery in a full way with all the items and all the aspects of what Christ is to His Body. The Lord’s recovery has advanced item by item since before the time of Martin Luther. Now today the last item of God’s recovery is the church life. The church life is the completion of His recovery. When we migrate out, we must take the proper ground, the proper standing, of the church to represent the church life in an all-inclusive way. If we are clear about this, when we go out, we will know how to go, where to stand, and what we must do. The next six messages in this issue are from the International Conference of Co-workers and Elders in Taipei, Taiwan in April and May of 1998. The subject of this conference was “Being Constituted with and Propagating the Divine Revelation in the Lord’s Recovery.” We must be constituted with the divine revelation in the Lord’s recovery concerning God’s New Testament economy, and we must live the God-man life and practice the vital groups. Then we will propagate and spread the divine riches to the uttermost parts of the earth for the increase and building up of the Body of Christ consummating in the New Jerusalem. We also include several reports on the current moves of the ministry. The first report recounts the history and nature of the blending fellowship of the co-workers as they became clear regarding how to carry out the current migrations in the Lord’s recovery according to His organic move. The second report is an account of the International Conference of Co-workers and Elders, the International Blending Conference, the gospel march, and the visitation for blending in Taipei, Taiwan in April and May of 1998. The third report testifies of the oneness of the churches in the Lord’s recovery in the successful purchase of a campus for the spread of the work of God’s New Testament ministry. A fourth report gives some important details concerning the preparation of the Russian Recovery Version as it enters its final stages before printing. Lastly, an encouraging letter from Timisoara, Romania details the progress of the spread of the literature of the ministry in that country.

On the occasion of Brother Lee’s departure, we can consider all that the Lord has unveiled to us, all the truths which were recovered for us through our brother’s faithful ministry, to bring us into the Lord’s recovery and into the experience of Christ and the reality of the Body of Christ for God’s eternal economy to consummate the New Jerusalem. The local churches raised up under this ministry will speak these things, teach these things, write these things, and live these things until we meet the Lord. Last, we include an encouraging report on the spread of the ministry through the marketing of our publications in Christian bookstores. We also report on the work to produce the Recovery Version of the New Testament in the Russian language, which is now in its fifth and final year. A letter from the co-workers in the former Soviet Union brings us up to date on the Lord’s move there in the first training for the responsible brothers and the recent winter training held in Moscow, and letters from Berlin, Germany report on the progress in publishing and distributing books by Watchman Nee in the German language.

We include a message spoken by Brother Lee to the serving ones in the church in Taipei in 1960 on the building up and the need for consecration for the building. All the work in the New Testament is for the building up of the church as God’s habitation, and the practical building requires that we offer ourselves up in consecration to God. This consecration is twofold: According to Romans 6, it is the presenting of our specific members to live a life of sanctification and righteousness in Christ, and according to Romans 12, it is the presenting of our whole being to be the material for God’s building. The following six messages are from the first half of the Living Stream Ministry’s Summer Training of 1997, entitled The Crucial Contents of God’s New Testament Ministry. On June 9, 1997 our Brother Lee rested from his labors and went to be with the Lord. This training, which followed immediately after our brother’s departure, was a thorough review of the contents of the New Testament ministry, which he brought to us over many years. In 2 Timothy 3:14 Paul says, “But you, continue in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from which ones you have learned them.” The messages in this series are a tribute to and a reminder of the ones through whom we learned the things of God’s New Testament ministry. Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry contains the first and second of a series of crucial messages given by Brother Lee to the co-workers in Southern California in August 1996 concerning the principles of fruit-bearing and of shepherding the young ones in corporate living. The first principle of fruit-bearing is that it is not by mass production. The second principle of fruit-bearing as seen in John 15 is that each branch bears its own fruit. As branches of Christ, our unique responsibility is to bear fruit. Brother Lee’s burden in the second message is expressed in the following excerpt: “I want to shepherd and disciple you from the Bible so you can see this matter and have a change. I am discipling you to change your concept. The God-man concept is that Christ came to save sinners, especially the top sinners....If we lose this spirit, whether we are elders, co-workers, or serving ones, we are finished. This is the main reason why we are so barren, bearing no fruit for so many years” (p. 24). Our need is to learn of the Lord to shepherd people according to His heart of love. Love covers many sins. To uncover is not love. Covering brings in blessing, but uncovering brings in a curse. The next three messages in this issue are Messages Seven, Eight, and Nine from the Crystallization-study of the Epistle to the Hebrews, which were given in the Living Stream Ministry’s Summer Training of 1998. Message Seven emphasizes the main point of Christ being our High Priest—He ministers God into us. Message Eight stresses the wonderful fact that Jesus as the Apostle came to us with God to share God with us that we might partake of His divine life, nature, and fullness so that we might be formed and constituted into His church, the house of the living God. The subject of Message Nine is the Sabbath rest, which is simply God’s satisfaction in His heart’s desire. When man is on earth expressing and representing God, God’s desire is satisfied. Lastly we include a report concerning the use of the Internet to spread the Lord’s ministry and a letter from the co-workers in the former Soviet Union concerning the usefulness of the training in the Lord’s move throughout the former Soviet Union.

This message focuses on the testimony of God. According to the context of the entire Bible, the testimony of God is God Himself in Christ and the church. As the New Testament people of God, we must be the corporate witness, bearing this unique testimony. This requires that we know and practice the church life in its proper generality, which is the all-inclusive testimony of God and the full recovery of the Lord. For the church to take another way brings in confusion and division, and it causes us to lose God’s testimony. Therefore, the purpose of our migrations is to spread the church life as the completion of the Lord’s recovery, not the recovery only of certain items, but the recovery in totality. Following this are the messages from the Memorial Day Weekend Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The subject of this conference was “The Move of God in His Recovery as Portrayed in Ezekiel.” In these messages we see the high, awesome, and profoundly mysterious “visions of God” (Ezek. 1:1), showing us the intrinsic depths of God’s heart’s desire, His plan, His eternal economy, and His move to carry out His eternal economy. At the same time, we see many applications of the visions for the Lord’s current move in migration to raise up new churches. We also include a report on the open house and meeting of thanksgiving, praise, and consecration at the campus for the spread of the work of God’s New Testament ministry in the Lord’s recovery. This glorious and memorable inauguration of the new facility included an open house in three of the buildings on the campus, a love feast, a review of crucial points of the ministry of Brother Lee, and a solemn time of prayer. Following this is a report on the publication of the ministry in the Czech Republic with some encouraging responses from readers of The Stream magazine, a report on the radio broadcast of the ministry in the Spanish language, and a report on the ten-day training in Ardzini, Armenia.

The second line--Words for New Believers--continues with chapters 15 through 18 of Basic Lessons on Life, which are in volume 1 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1979. These chapters speak of the sense of the spirit and knowing the spirit, the human spirit, the exercise of the spirit generally, and the exercise of the spirit unto godliness specifically. The third line--Maturing in Life--continues with chapters 13 through 16 of Knowing Life and the Church, which are in volume 1 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1953. These chapters speak of the spiritual requirements of a Christian and the standard for testing these requirements, the reality of the church and the experience of the cross, God's work of redemption being the mingling of God and man, and the matter of all service being initiated by God. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--continues with the final chapter of The God-man Living, which is in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1994–1997. This chapter speaks of the living of Christ, the first God-man, as a man of prayer. The line then continues with chapters 1 through 3 of a new book, The Application of the Interpretation of the New Jerusalem to the Seeking Believers, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1994–1997. These chapters focus on the spiritual significance and base of the New Jerusalem and the spiritual application of its gates, wall, and foundations.

The next three messages in this issue are the concluding messages of the Living Stream Ministry’s Summer Training of 1998 on the Crystallization-study of the Epistle to the Hebrews. Message Ten emphasizes the crucial matter of the dividing of soul and spirit for the experience of the reality of the Sabbath rest. Message Eleven indicates strongly that in order for the believers to be brought on to maturity (Heb. 6:1), we must progress from the word of the beginning of Christ—the milk—to the word of righteousness—the solid food. Message Twelve, as a conclusion to the summer training, stresses the critical need of being transformed and of being matured. To be transformed is to be metabolically changed in our natural life, whereas to be matured is to be filled with the divine life that changes us. We need to go on, to be brought on, to maturity by forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, pursuing toward the fullest enjoyment and gaining of Christ for the uttermost enjoyment of Christ in the millennial kingdom. Ultimately, the Lord’s desire to bring us on to maturity must be matched by our willing cooperation with His gracious work. Lastly, we include a report concerning the International Elders’ Training in October 1998, held on the new campus for the ministry in Anaheim, California.

Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry contains a complete record of the nine messages given during the International Training for Elders and Responsible Ones, held in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, October 5-7, 2006. The general subject of the training was "Shepherding the Flock of God." These messages are a continuation of the training given in the spring of 2006 (see The Ministry, Vol. 10, No. 5). The burden of these messages is not about the technique of shepherding but about what we are in our person and how we behave in the church. This is according to Paul's word to the elders in Ephesus in Acts 20. He said, "Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock" (v. 28). We first need to take care of ourselves, to be shepherded in our own person before we take care of all the flock. Messages 1 and 2 show us that our shepherding must be according to the plan of God and the word of God, according to the teaching of the apostles, and according to God. These form the basis of our shepherding. Messages 3, 5, and 7 show us that our shepherding is in our living by the grace of God, in an organic way according to His initiation and with our cooperation, and in dealing with peculiarity. These are the conditions of our shepherding. Messages 4, 6, and 8 show us that our goal must be to shepherd the saints into the faith of the truth, into a life of living through dying, and into a life of prayer for the organic practice of the God-ordained way in the vital groups. Finally, in Message 9, if the elders are constituted with the basis, the conditions, and the goal of shepherding, the flock of God will be shepherded to know the Body of Christ. May the Lord speak to us His light-shedding and life-imparting word. Last of all, we include letters and reports concerning the recent gospel move in the Russian-speaking world.
