This book was released on 2018 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herbal Formularies for Health Professionals is a five-volume set that serves as a comprehensive, practical reference manual for herbalists, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. Dr. Jill Stansbury draws on her decades of clinical experience and her extensive research to provide an unparalleled range of herbal formulas. Organized by body system, each volume includes hundreds of formulas to treat common health conditions, as well as formulas that address specific energetic or symptomatic presentations, including Dr. Stansbury's own formulas, formulas from herbal folklore, and formulas from Traditional Chinese Medicine. For each formula, Dr. Stansbury offers a brief explanation of how the selected herbs address the specific condition. The book offers many sidebars and user-friendly lists--helping readers quickly choose which herbs are best for specific presentations--and details traditional uses of both western herbs and traditional Asian herbs and formulas that are readily available in the United States. Volume II focuses on circulation and respiration, offering formulas and supporting information for treating a wide range of vascular, pulmonary, and respiratory conditions, including angina, coronary artery disease, hypertension, congestive heart failure, Reynaud's syndrome, anemia, coughs, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, and emphysema. Each volume in the set also includes: a discussion of how herbal therapy fits into an overall treatment plan or approach for a particular health condition modern research findings on individual herbs and their mode of action in the body lists of herbs that might be beneficial for specific conditions advice on botanicals to avoid for particular conditions Each chapter includes a materia medica section listing 50 or more individual herbs with tips on their properties, modes of action, and very specific symptoms each plant best addresses. These formularies are also a tutorial for budding herbalists on the sophisticated art of fine-tuning the precision of an herbal formula for the constitution and overall health condition of an individual patient, rather than a basic diagnosis. The text aims to teach via example, helping clinicians develop their own intuition and ability to create effective herbal formulas. Volume III (Endocrinology) will be published in fall 2018; Volumes IV (Neurology, Pyschiatry, and Pain Management) and V (Immunology, Orthopedics, and Otolarnygology) will be published in spring 2019.

Book Synopsis The Re-Enchantment of the West, Vol 2 by : Christopher Partridge
Download or read book The Re-Enchantment of the West, Vol 2 written by Christopher Partridge and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2006-04-20 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Re-Enchantment of the West challenges those theories that predict widespread secularization beyond traditional institutional religiosity. Spiritualities are emerging that are not only quite different from the those forms of religion that are in decline, but are often defined over against them and articulated and passed on in ways quite different from those of traditional religion. In particular, it is argued that such contemporary Western spirituality is fed by a constantly replenished reservoir of ideas, practices, and methodologies, which is here termed 'occulture'. Moreover, such occultural ideas both feed into and are resourced by popular culture. Indeed, popular occulture is a key feature of the re-enchantment of the West. Demonstrating the significance and ubiquity of these ideas, this book examines, for example, healthcare and nursing, contemporary environmentalism, psychedelia and drug use, the Internet and cyberspirituality, belief in UFOs and extraterrestrial life, demonology and the contemporary fascination with the figure of Satan, the heavy metal subculture, popular apocalypticism, and millennial violence.

Book Synopsis Theopompus The Historian by : Gordon S. Shrimpton
Download or read book Theopompus The Historian written by Gordon S. Shrimpton and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1991-04-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theopompus was primarily known in antiquity for his historical works, which included an Epitome of Herodotus; Hellenica, a twelve-volume history of Greece; and the fifty-eight volume Philippica, which focused mainly on the career of Philip II of Macedon. All of Theopompus' works were lost by late antiquity except fifty-three volumes of the Philippica, which survived into Byzantine times only to disappear by perhaps the tenth century. Before these works were lost, geographers, lexicographers, biographers, collectors of anecdotes, and later historians all quoted Theopompus in their writings and many critics of historical style commented on Theopompus' work. Concentrating on the Hellenica and the Philippica, Shrimpton studies the fragments and testimonies to reveal what can be gleaned about the scope and content of Theopompus' two major works. He deals systematically with the problems of interpretation and makes clear the methodological background of his reconstructions and evaluations, furnishing the basis for further methodological debate. Theopompus' moral and political views are discussed, as are his treatment of two of the most important figures of the middle of the fourth century BC, Philip and Demosthenes. In addition, Shrimpton provides a comprehensive index of the proper names found in the fragments and reassesses the authorship of the Hellenica Oxyrhynchia, suggesting that it is most plausibly identified with Cratippus.
