Written by two highly regarded scholars and teachers, this book goes beyond other textbooks to help readers understand where, how, and why they fit into the contemporary media environment. Too often, mass communication texts rely only on popular publications or on academic research. In this interactive text, they have combined the concrete practice of journalism with empirical research, enabling students to comprehend the impact of the dynamic media that are an integral part of our lives today. Folkerts and Lacy guide readers through today's whirlwind of mass communication by providing them with the information and critical thinking skills necessary to consider objectively the media and its roles in their lives. Michael Morris, a therapist of more than thirty years, knows that firsthand. He has helped thousands of people overcome emotional, psychological, physical, and other types of trauma. The Foundation Forty lifestyle is a tool that provides guidelines to create a high quality of life—one that is in line with your best interests. Position yourself to: • set in motion the dynamics of change for a happy and healthy life; • move past the unfortunate lifestyle that has become a reality for most Americans; • resolve disagreements and cultivate more meaningful relationships with others. The author also examines the reasons why so many people are unhappy, noting that most Americans have lived with the horrors of war and terrorism their entire lives. This level of stress, however comfortable you get with it, reduces the ability of society and individuals to function at their best.

Book excerpt: A new way to teach media studies that centers students’ lived experiences and diverse perspectives from around the world. From the intimate to the mundane, most aspects of our lives—how we learn, love, work, and play—take place in media. Taking an expansive, global perspective, this introductory textbook covers what it means to live in, rather than with, media. Mark Deuze focuses on the lived experience—how people who use smartphones, the internet, and television sets make sense of their digital environment—to investigate the broader role of media in society and everyday life. Life in Media uses relatable examples and case studies from around the world to illustrate the foundational theories, concepts, and methods of media studies. The book is structured around six core themes: how media inform and inspire our daily activities; how we live our lives in the public eye; how we make distinctions between real and fake; how we seek and express love; how we use media to effect change; how we create media and shared narratives; and how we seek to create well-being within media. By deliberately including diverse voices and radically embracing the everyday and mundane aspects of media life, this book innovates ways to teach and talk about media. Highlights diverse international voices, images, and cases Uses accessible examples from everyday life to contextualize theory Offers a comprehensive, student-centered introduction to media studies Extensively annotated bibliography offers dynamic sources for further study, including readings and documentary films

Book excerpt: Many of us live on autopilot, often so guarded that we don't experience the richness that life has to offer–so how can we find real happiness amid the chaos, so we don't reach the end of our life and feel like we missed it? In Stop Missing Your Life, mindfulness teacher Cory Muscara takes us on a journey into the heart of what is required for real change, growth, and happiness. He exposes how the phrase "be present" has become little more than a platitude, imbued with the misguided message to be present just for the sake of being present, and reveals how to achieve true Presence: a quality of being that is unmistakably attractive about a person, and one that only comes when we've peeled back the layers of guarding that prevent us from being our full, honest, and integrated selves in the world. Muscara shows how we build internal walls, what he describes as a "Pain Box" inhibiting us from living a deeply connected and meaningful life. He offers a four-part FACE model (Focus, Allow, Curiosity, and Embodiment) that helps chip away at those walls and builds our capacity to experience the richness of our lives Stop Missing Your Life ultimately teaches how we can find peace in the chaos and become better people for our families, our communities, and our world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of us live with some sort of longing in our hearts—a gap between the life we want and the life we actually have. As we try to navigate this sense of longing and the circumstances we desperately wish would change, we try to hang on to the belief that God will fulfill our desires, while waiting to see the answers to our prayers realized. For some, those prayers are answered. Yet for others, the longing persists, making us weary at best and debilitated at worst. Living this way leaves us asking the same questions: “How do I find God’s joy in this life when it isn’t the life I hoped for?” or “How do I deal with the gap between the life I want and the life I’ve been given?” In this powerful book, Bible teacher and fellow traveler down the well-worn road of unmet longings Elizabeth Woodson equips you for joyful living in that gap. As you walk with Elizabeth through some key biblical passages in the book of Joshua and beyond, you’ll learn to: Realize joy is possible Avoid emotional escapism and naïve blindness to reality Have your eyes opened to what “biblical contentment” really means Enjoy God’s unfailing presence Understand your divine calling Through biblical wisdom, personal stories, and practical advice, Elizabeth shares life-changing truth that has the heart-healing power you’ve been searching for, and helps you walk through your current life situations from a new perspective—one that embraces actual, real, deep joy in the midst of the inevitable longings of life.

When you transform your thoughts then you throw away your thoughts such that all your thoughts, happy, sad and negative thoughts are thrown away. This way all your thinking goes away. Your mind does not go blank but you replace your mind with non-physical thoughts. Once you have accomplished this then you have new thinking without your baggage. You will forget your past. At this level, your karma will improve and go positive, and as this happens, your horrible night dreams will become positive. At time moves forward, your body pains will slowly go away. If you get hurt in sports then you will heal faster. This is a very powerful method. As time passes, you may be able to establish communication with divine/higher-power/God and you may begin to receive bells and whistles at some point. If this happens then you will be an extremely happy person.
