I had been through enough hell and surely kept up enough hell to know that it was time to try to do life right. I had mastered the street life, hood life, and a few other things that I will share later in this book, but I was tired. For once in my life, I was really ready and confident to sell out against everything I once knew for a new mind and a new lifestyle. I didn't understand the struggle I had to endure, the hatred I had to face, the betrayal I would experience, and all the internal battles I went through that nobody knew about but me. I was under attack from the moment I was conceived, and although God had a plan for my life, so did the enemy. God wanted to lead me into an abundant life, but the Satan wanted me to live a life less than I deserved. He was intimidated by me before I could even walk or talk. However, what I thought was happening against me, God was preparing to use it for me. My yes had a cost before and after receiving him in my life. I thought I was cursed at some point because it was really difficult being "me." I had been through enough hell and surely kept up enough hell to know that it was time to try to do life right. I had mastered the street life, hood life, and a few other things that I will share later in this book, but I was tired. The accounts within go beyond tears and victimhood to reveal joy, love and forgiveness, in a project brought to life by Women for Women International, an organisation providing female survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency. This work is a collaboration between women's rights activist Zainab Salbi and photographer Rennio Maifredi.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a blessing? Do you have to believe to receive one? Can you doubt while you pray? And can you extend grace to others while still desperately in need of it yourself? Once a week Episcopal priest Adrian Dannhauser stands outside her Manhattan church beside a chalkboard sign that reads "Ask me for a blessing (because God knows you need one)." Passersby stop, chat, and ask for prayer: for a sick friend, an addicted son, an upcoming job interview, the state of our nation, or the grief of our world. Bus drivers sometimes open their doors for a quick prayer before the light turns green, and someone once took her to meet their doorman so she could bless him too. Half of those who stop are in crisis. Someone always cries. A few are simply curious. Through the heartfelt, frank, and sincere stories of her unique ministry, Dannhauser offers glimpses into the tender, holy, and sometimes hilarious moments of sidewalk prayers. With a potent blend of reverence and irreverence, as well as insights from Christian scriptures, she delves into the power that ancient ideas--blessing, forgiveness, miracles, and prayer--hold in a disenchanted world. For people of Christian faith, other faiths, or no faith at all, having spiritual conversations, even awkward ones with strangers on the street, can help us face our vulnerability, where we may discover a grace sufficient for all.

It is absolutely okay to have issues, as long as you can put things in perspective. Sometimes our issues are something that gives you strength, or they can zap the very strength from you! I am here to tell you having issues can be a blessing, as long as you can match them up with the word of God, and stand on top of them instead of them standing on top of you! I am excited about my issues! That hasn't been the case, a long time ago, but now I see the blessings, and I rejoice and praise the Lord for my issues, and the freedom I have received. Every t time I think about how many times in the name of Jesus, I have been blessed, because of, and in spite of my issues! I found out we are going to be alright!

Book excerpt: A "shocking and perfect" bestseller about family and ambition from the award-winning author of Dare Me and The Turnout (New York Times Book Review). How far will you go to achieve a dream? That's the question a celebrated coach poses to Katie and Eric Knox after he sees their daughter Devon, a gymnastics prodigy and Olympic hopeful, compete. For the Knoxes there are no limits -- until a violent death rocks their close-knit gymnastics community and everything they have worked so hard for is suddenly at risk. As rumors swirl among the other parents, Katie tries frantically to hold her family together while also finding herself irresistibly drawn to the crime itself. What she uncovers -- about her daughter's fears, her own marriage, and herself -- forces Katie to consider whether there's any price she isn't willing to pay to achieve Devon's dream. From a writer with "exceptional gifts for making nerves jangle and skin crawl" (Janet Maslin), You Will Know Me is a breathless rollercoaster of a novel about the desperate limits of parental sacrifice, furtive desire, and the staggering force of ambition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the last 5 years I have been living with 94 adults. These 94 adults made up the sample of people in a study on adult development that Dale Dannefer and I began in 1980. This book represents my efforts to condense the almost 200 hours of tape-recorded material from the 94 adults into a form that captures at least some of the diversity and also some of the commonalities in their answers to the ques tion "Who am I?" My version of their answers is based on their reflections about themselves as family members, workers, and people with a goal in life. In arriv ing at the conclusion that adults attempt to see themselves as loved, competent, and good human beings, I believe that I have done justice to these people and their answers to my interview questions. Arriving at the point of being able to write about these 94 people's identities has not been an easy process. Countless attempts at numerically based rating systems were tried and discarded progressively, until finally I decided to read all the trans cripts in sequence, person by person rather than question by question. What I found when I approached them as total individuals was surprising to me. I found a vibrant theme of certainty and self-assuredness in their identities that flew in the face of my previous ideas about developmental change in adulthood.

Book excerpt: This book is a riveting account of RA Busayo’s life experiences through her lens and perspective. She details the woes of suicide, neglect, abuse, faith, and incredible determination to plow forward through life in the hope of a better future. “I can now shed light and say that, at the moment, you are so broken and distant from the world that those things don't carry the same weight anymore. The love and care are still there. Their meaning in your heart is still there, but the weight of carrying them is gone. All you feel is the weight of everything wrong and all your mistakes. I felt so boxed in for years. I felt like I was screaming. The walls kept closing in, and no one could hear me. Ironically sometimes, I didn’t even know if I wanted people to hear me because I didn’t want to see pity on their faces.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The next “masterful” (Publishers Weekly) novel from "the gifted Jessica Strawser" (Adriana Trigiani), hailed as “immensely satisfying” (Kathleen Barber) and “that book you can’t put down” (Sally Hepworth). A video call between friends captures a shocking incident no one was supposed to see. The secrets it exposes threaten to change their lives forever. Molly and Liza have always been enviably close. Even after Molly married Daniel, the couple considered Liza an honorary family member. But after Liza moved away, things grew more strained than anyone wanted to admit—in the friendship and the marriage. When Daniel goes away on business, Molly and Liza plan to reconnect with a nice long video chat after the kids are in bed. But then Molly leaves the room to check on a crying child. What Liza sees next will change everything. Only one thing is certain: Molly needs her. Liza drives all night to be at Molly’s side—but when she arrives, the reception is icy, leaving Liza baffled and hurt. She knows there’s no denying what she saw. Or is there? In disbelief that their friendship could really be over, Liza is unaware she’s about to have a near miss of her own. And Molly, refusing to deal with what’s happened, won’t turn to Daniel, either. But none of them can go on pretending. Not after this. Forget You Know Me is a “twisty, emotionally complex, powder keg of a tale” (bestselling author Emily Carpenter) about the wounds of people who’ve grown apart. Best friends, separated by miles. Spouses, hardened by neglect. A mother, isolated by pain. One moment will change things for them all. "[A] great hybrid of women's fiction and suspense...strong character development and unpredictable plot." - Library Journal

Book excerpt: Do you have questions about who you are? Do you wonder, is this me? Who would take the time to put into your existence everything you need to live? Who watched over you when you had nothing to lean on? Who saw you struggling in your own blood as it is recorded in Ezekiel 16:6-a picture of God's restoration and revival? The makeup of the me is both complex and unique. The me defines the person and the makeup, the character, the total criteria God fashioned in every creature. God knows personally that what He placed within the me is of a unique design that no one on the face of the earth can decipher how to remake without the release of the information from the designer. "You are fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalms 139:14). Come with me on this personal journey and discover how amazing God is. God calculates. Yes, He has figured something into your account at every stage of your existence. He knew before you needed it. You will discover this as you become more intimately aware of His presence. You will never see the me God personally designed as hopeless or without meaning if you get hold of the truth. He Knew Me records a search for the truth and unveils the presence of God in His foreknowledge of all the author's days. Before you begin to read, remember what God placed within the me. Revisit it as you come face to face with the creator who formed you!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir is about my body transformation, or that's what I thought of it for the longest time, but little did I know that the process of doing research and putting in the work to teach myself about nutrition and fitness would significantly change my perspective on life that some might categorize it under the self-help genre. However, It isn't only about teaching; It is also about crying while eating or doing push-ups using the bathroom door. It is a journey of exploration and some uncommon ups and downs to keep things interesting. I tried to convey everything I learned in the past 4 and a half years, that includes the difficulties I faced and also the good times I got to experience. I hope reading it helps you save the time I wasted just because I didn't know how to do it right.
