Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Manifestation of the Idea Since the Idea as it existed in the Mind of God was not fully manifested until God, who was that Idea, was made manifest in a Personality, even Jesus Christ who was that Idea and therefore God, so also all that which is recorded in His Word of His wishes and His purposes and His commands previous to His coming in the Fullness of His Personality must have lacked somewhat in its fullness of comprehension of His Perfect Wishes, Purposes and Commands because of a failure to comprehend in its Fullness His Character and therefore the Idea, which was Him. It is obvious, therefore, that none could understand Perfectly what His Wishes were, and what His Purposes were, and what His Commands were, and what His Character was. and what His Voice said, until some One knew His Wishes, and His Purposes, and His Commands, and His Character, and had heard His Voice, in their Fullness. It is also obvious that we could not understand or comprehend these fully unless we could hear that Voice in its Fullness and by its Wishes, Commands and Purposes comprehend its Character. Now, since Mind is that spiritual entity which lives as one with the flesh, and which we call Soul, and since it is with the Mind that we see spiritual things (truths, ideas, etc.), it follows that the Soul or Mind is mans spiritual body, that that body is One Great Eye, which embraces the entire personality of the individual, and that therefore the spiritual man could only sec the Idea, even God, His Wishes, His Purposes, His Commands, His Character, through his own personality, even that Mind which was him. Since before His coming none had been perfect, no, not one, but (a) "all had fallen short of the glory of God," it is manifest that none could have seen the Fullness of that Character or heard the Fullness of that Voice. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manifest Activity presents and critically examines Thomas Reid's doctrines about the model of human power, the will, our capacities for purposeful conduct, and the place of our agency in the natural world. Reid is one of the most important philosophers of the 18th century, but hithertounder-appreciated; through the reconstruction of his arguments, many of which have never before been discussed, Gideon Yaffe demonstrates that Reid's simple prose and direct style belie the complexity of the views he advocates and the subtlety of the reasons he offers in their favour. For Reid, contrary to the view of many of his predecessors, it is simply manifest that we are active with respect to our behaviours; it is manifest, he thinks, that our actions are not merely remote products of forces that lie outside of our control. Reid holds, instead, that actions are all andonly those events that spring from active power, and he produces insightful and imaginative arguments for the claim that only a creature with a mind is capable of having active power. He believes that only human beings, and creatures 'above us', are capable of directing events towards ends, ofendowing them with purpose or direction, the distinctive feature of action. However, he also holds that all events, and not merely human actions, are products of active power, power possessed either by human beings or by God. This collection of theses leads Reid to the view that human behaviour andthe progress of nature are both essentially teleological. Patterns in nature are the products of laws of which God is the author; patterns in human conduct are the products of character and the laws that individuals set for themselves. Manifest Activity examines Reid's arguments for this view and the view's implications for the nature of character, motivation, and the special kind of causation involved in the production of human behaviour. Yaffe's assessment will greatly profit anyone working on current theories of action and freewill, as well as historians of ideas.

Book excerpt: Throughout his long, hectic and astonishingly varied life, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832) would jot down his passing thoughts on theatre programmes, visiting cards, draft manuscripts and even bills ... Goethe was probably the last true ‘Renaissance Man’. Although employed as a Privy Councillor at the Duke of Weimar’s court, where he helped oversee major mining, road-building and irrigation projects, he also painted, directed plays, carried out research in anatomy, botany and optics – and still found time to produce masterpieces in every literary genre. His fourteen hundred Maxims and Reflections reveal some of his deepest thought on art, ethics, literature and natural science, but also his immediate reactions to books, chance encounters or his administrative work. Although variable in quality, the vast majority have a freshness and immediacy which vividly conjure up Goethe the man. They make an ideal introduction to one of the greatest of European writers.

Book excerpt: "You are what you think", '"You attract what you think about".These simple ideas have never had a practical explanation of how attraction and manifestation actually work so we can manage our thoughts to achieve our goals. Philosophers, teachers, scientists and ordinary people have been interested in manifestation concepts for centuries. But most people are still seeking practices that connect to the way we actually think and live. After hundreds of books, blogs and webinars, I decided to use my research expertise to analyze the traditional teachings, the quantum sciences and the evidence we see every day of successful manifestation. I knew something was missing between my thoughts and the results - with the inevitable struggle between positive thoughts and negative thoughts along the way. The usual advice is that we must have positive thoughts "most of the time" to manifest what we want. But no teaching could tell me what "most of the time" actually meant. So, I had to discover the answer for myself. So how do we have positive thoughts "most of the time? The answer turned out to be pretty simple. Everything we know about the universe is described with math formulas, and the same is true for how to manage our thoughts to achieve our goals. I looked at successful achievements and connected the dots to fill in the missing steps between our thoughts and ideas and achieving a goal successfully. You don't have to be 100% positive, and you can't get rid of all the negatives. You just have to know how you are thinking about your goal, positive or negative, and use the simple Manifestation Formula to help you achieve the successful balance between them.We humans also like to measure our progress, so I created the Thoughts Scorecard. We need to know our progress to reach the critical balance between positive thoughts and negative thoughts in order to enter the successful manifestation zone. AuthorRich Spitzer had a long career in communications and behavioral research. After retirement Rich discovered metaphysics concepts, including the law of attraction, manifestation and synchronicity. Rich applied his research expertise to find practical, modern methods to successfully manifest thoughts and ideas to achieve our personal goals.

Book excerpt: Drawing on his deep and profound knowledge of metaphysical laws including the Law of Attraction and the Law of Gestation, quantum physics, and our increasing understanding of energy fields, not to mention his work with thousands of people who want to bring change into their lives and the world, Alan Seale has written a book that can change the world. There are eight houses on the Manifestation Wheel: intention, peace, energy, guidance, empowerment, action, surrender, legacy. Seale teaches a process that allows readers to tap into their own intuition and the collective consciousness. For example, intention -- where we start -- takes us beyond "I want" to "what wants to happen." When those two are in alignment amazing things can happen. The more our thoughts, beliefs, decisions and actions are in alignment the clearer our physical manifestation will be. We can use the process to find a new job or a new love. As we surrender to the process and manifest our legacy -- even in those very personal projects -- we are becoming more conscious of and contributing to the positive evolution of mass consciousness.

Book excerpt: Theory and Practice is one of Habermas's major works and is widely recognized as a classic in contemporary and social and political theory. Through a series of highly original historical studies, Habermas reexamines the relations between philosophy, science and politics. Beginning with the classical doctrine of politics as developed by Aristotle, he traces the changing constellation of theory and practice through the work of Machiavelli, More, Hobbes, Hegel and Marx. He argues that, with the development of the modern sciences, politics has become increasingly regarded as a technical discipline concerned with problems of prediction and control. Politics has thus lost its link with the practical cultivation of character, that is, with the praxis of enlightened citizens. Theory and Practices includes a major reassessment of Marx's work and of the status of Marxism as a form of critique. In an important concluding chapter Habermas examines the role of reason and the prospects for critical theory in our modern scientific civilization.
