Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Light of Messiah "I Am the Light;" Jesus: On the Gospel of Freedom and the Order of Messiah This book is an introduction to seven volumes, which will follow as they can conveniently be prepared for the press. These outlines of the Messianic' philosophy take up the thread on the ground of the religious ethics, where it was left, and will con tinne to wind it as a guidance through the labyrinth of social, philosophical and religious ideas, in problems from above and now before this generation. The harmonial philosophy brought Spiritual thoughts to earth, and Spiritual development, but in the spirit of God's love came light, and the human soul is lifted in that light into the philosophy of love to search the earth and heavens with. The divine dealings with the race are links of a chain which unite mankind with eternity by a gradual evolution of ideas drifting onwards. These become the analytical problems of to-day, which are dissected and absorbed by souls, and assimilate into the spiritual life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Way of Jesus Christ discusses the following topics: 1. The symbol of the way embodies the aspect of process and brings out christology's alignment towards its goal. This symbol can comprehend Christ's way from his birth in the Spirit and his baptism in the Spirit to his self-surrender on Golgotha. It also makes it possible to understand the path of Christ as the way leading from his resurrection to his parousia-the way he takes in the Spirit to Israel, to the nations, and into the breadth and depth of the cosmos. 2. The symbol of the way makes us aware that every human christology is historically conditioned and limited. Every human christology is a 'christology of the way, ' not yet a 'christology of the home country, ' a christology of faith, not yet a christology of sight. So christology is no more than the beginning of eschatology; and eschatology, as the Christian faith understands it, is always the consummation of christology. 3. Finally, but not least important: every way is an invitation. A way is something to be followed. 'The way of Jesus Christ' is not merely a christological category. It is an ethical category too. Anyone who enters upon Christ's way will discover who Jesus really is; and anyone who really believes in Jesus and the Christ of God will follow him along the way he himself took. Christology and christopraxis find one another in the full and completed knowledge of Christ. This christology links dogmatics and ethics in closer detail than in the previous volumes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Citing his personal quest to reconcile the contradictions among biblical religion, democratic liberalism, and modern science, E. M. Adams explores the foundations of religion and its role in the culture. He asks, What would constitute a responsible religion in our time? And he determines that for a religion to be credible, its tents must be reconcilable with scientific beliefs, the historical record, the accepted worldview, and the creative, spiritual, and ethical dimensions of human experience. In Religion and Cultural Freedom, Adams focuses on Judeo-Christian religion in Western civilization, and draws on literary, historical, ethical, and philosophical examples. Maintaining that religion is logically accountable in its belief system to the culture of which it is a part, he illustrates how, at different points in history, religious beliefs have been altered or reinterpreted in response to cultural tensions and conflicts. This interplay between religion and culture is an essential part of Adams's definition of a responsible religion. While he does not think that religion needs to yield to conflicting sectors in the culture, he insists that it has a responsibility to work for coherence and intellectual respectability within a free culture. During his discussion, Adams offers a realistic theory of the language of the humanities and lived experience (especially the language of value and meaning) and, on the basis of this theory, he reconstructs the intellectual enterprise and interprets meaning and truth in religious discourse. Interested in what he takes to be a negative turn in religious consciousness and the fate of religion in modern Western civilization, Adams concludes that the time may be ripe for a humanistic revolution that would create a fully accountable and intellectually credible religion. Author note: E. M. Adams is Kenan Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has published ten previous books, including The Metaphysics of Self and World (Temple).

This book was released on 2020-10-16 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to demonstrate the significance of Ancestor Christology in African Christianity for christological developments in World Christianity. Ancestor Christology has developed in the process of an African conversion story of appropriating the mystery of Christ (Eph 3:4) in the category of ancestors. Logos Christology in early Christian history developed as an intricate byproduct in the conversion process of turning Hellenistic ideas towards the direction of Christ (A. F. Walls). Hellenistic Christian writers and modern African Christian writers thus share some things in common and when their efforts are examined within the conversion process framework there are discernible modes of engagement. The mode of Logos Christology that one finds in Origen, for example, is an innovative application of the understanding of Jesus Christ as Logos (incarnate); a new key but not discontinuous with the Johannine suggestive mode or the clarificatory mode of Justin Martyr. African Ancestor Christology is at the threshold of an innovative mode and the argument this book makes is that this strand of African Christology should be pursued in the indigenous languages aided by respective translated Bibles; a suggested way is a Logos-Ancestor (Nanasɛm) discourse in Akan Christianity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive, inspiring and fascinating discovery of what Jews believe about the Messiah—and why you might believe in the Messiah, too. "The conviction that the Messiah is coming is a promise of meaning. It is a source of consolation. It is a wellspring of creativity. It is a reconciliation between what is and what should be. And it is perhaps our most powerful statement of faith—in God, in humanity and in ourselves." —from Chapter 1, “The Messiah Is Coming!” The coming of the Messiah—the promise of redemption—is among Judaism's gifts to the world. But it is a gift about which the world knows so little. It has been overshadowed by Christian belief and teaching, and as a result its Jewish significance has been all but lost. To further complicate matters, Jewish messianic teaching is enthralling, compelling, challenging, exhilarating—yet, up until now, woefully inaccessible. This book will change that. Rabbi Elaine Rose Glickman brings together, and to life, this three-thousand-year-old tradition as never before. Rather than simply reviewing the vast body of Jewish messianic literature, she explores an astonishing range of primary and secondary sources, explaining in an informative yet inspirational way these teachings’ significance for Jews of the past—and infuses them with new meaning for the modern reader, both Jewish and non-Jewish.

Churches must lead people to dependence on Jesus. When we give ourselves wholly to Christ, He will fill us wholly, replacing the hollowness that results in addictions. In twelve practical steps, Williams reveals how to achieve spiritual fulfillment in Christ, discover freedom from addiction, and embrace the abundant life that God promises to all of His followers.

Book excerpt: For two thousand years, we have been teaching and learning the prophesies and promises of God concerning His First Coming. It is time to stop "drinking milk" as infants and begin "eating meat" as mature Christians. We need to teach and learn the prophesies and promises for God's Second Coming. First, we need the "biblical" explanation for the "old blood" covenant and "the scriptural" explanation for the "new blood" covenant ("the Shadow" and "the Body") before we can understand God's eternal salvation plan for all the earth (the Light). Did you know? 1. God changed "the written law" before he changed "the natural law" in order for God's "chosen daughter" Mary to give birth to Messiah? 2. The "substitute Lamb" God provided for Isaac and the 'substitute Lamb' God provided for the offerers in the temple, was God's plan until the real Lamb of God, Jesus, came as the 'Substitute Sacrifice' for all man-kind? 3. That 'the Promise' Blessing was fulfilled at His first coming there for we are able to inherit 'the Birth-Right' Blessing at His second coming? Word of Wisdom: "God does not interfere with man's will unless man's will interferes with God's will." Bishop Norman Vincent Peale "At last God's door to his kingdom is open to all mankind." Evangelist Minister Billy Graham. "And I remembered the word of the Lord, 'John baptized with water but you shall be baptized with Holy Spirit." St. Peter (Acts 10:16""17). "For one mans disobedience 'many' were made sinners, so by one mans obedience 'many' will be made righteous." St. Paul (Romans 5:19""21).

It is a sequel to the interdisciplinary collection on the manifold faces and images of Jesus throughout Chinese history, from the Tang dynasty (618907) to the present time. The present bibliography broadens and deepens the above-mentioned subject matter, and also points out aspects which have been addressed in the contributions and anthologies of the previous volumes of The Chinese Face of Jesus Christ, but which have not been treated thoroughly. Another aim of this bibliography is to initiate and enable further research, particularly in China. It includes bibliographical data from the beginning of the introduction of Christianity to China until the year 2013, occasionally also until 2014. A list of Key References enables the reader to identify important works on main topics related to Jesus Christ in China. Some examples of book covers and title pages are included in the section of Illustrations.Other volumes of the collection The Chinese Face of Jesus Christ are in preparation: Vol. 3c will present longer quotations from the sources listed in the present bibliography, Vol. 4b will contain a general index with glossary, and Vol. 5 will deal with the iconography of Jesus Christ in China.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book makes available to the adult Christian a great deal of biblical research in a readable and popular format. It respects Jesus's Jewish heritage, locating him clearly in the complex and vibrant context of first-century Jerusalem. At the same time, it graphically presents the differing portraits of Jesus as they appear in the four Gospels, paying special attention to the accounts of his death and resurrection. Those who take up this book and read it will not only grow in their understanding of the biblical texts but will also find a rich source for spiritual reflection." --Most Rev. Anthony M. Pilla, Bishop Emeritus of Cleveland "[This book] invites the reader into the world of Jesus and the disciples, encouraging him or her to experience with them the life of first-century Palestine. The opening chapters are especially significant in their presentation of the contextual foundation of Jesus the Jew, revealing his own formation and growth as a devout Jew in a period of turmoil for the Jewish people. I would find the book especially useful as an introductory text for introductory religion and Christology courses at the college level and for adult education programs. It provides new insights into Jesus and his ministry which are especially meaningful for today." --Diana L. Hayes, Professor of Systematic Theology, Georgetown University "Finally, a book about Jesus that is both 'user friendly' and deeply insightful. This is a classy and deeply spiritual look at the Jesus of our faith, a Jesus we can approach without fear, and yet a Jesus who still awakens us and keeps us filled with awe and wonder. What Art Zannoni has done for believers is both an accomplishment and a gift for all who seek to follow the Lord more deeply. All who want to deepen their conversion journey will do themselves a favor by reading and delving into the message of these pages." --David Haas, Director of the Emmaus Center for Music, Prayer, and Ministry, St. Paul, Minnesota
