Book Synopsis A Holy Week Every Week by : St. John Eudes
Download or read book A Holy Week Every Week written by St. John Eudes and published by Eudists - Cjm Us Region. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saint John Eudes tells us: "The holy exercise of prayer must be considered one of the chief foundations of Christian life and sanctity, since the whole life of Jesus Christ was nothing but a perpetual prayer, which you must continue and express in your life. This is so necessary that the earth on which you live, the air you breathe, the bread that sustains you, the heart that beats in your breast, none of them are so necessary to man for his bodily life as prayer is to a Christian if he is to live as a Christian." This little volume directs one to contemplate the life of Christ in a developmental manner as the week progresses. In this way, a person can develop a habit of constant prayer. Saint John Eudes reminds us: "Prayer is perfect delight, supreme happiness, a true earthly paradise. It is by this divine exercise of prayer that the Christian soul is united to God, who is the center of its being, its goal and its supreme good. It is in prayer that God belongs to the soul and the soul to God. It is by praying that the soul pays Him rightful service, homage, adoration and love, and receives from Him His lights, His blessings and a thousand tokens of His exceeding great love. It is during your prayers that God takes His delight in you." Let us live in a way that our Lord can take delight in us.

Book Synopsis The Secret of the Curé D'Ars by : Henri Ghéon
Download or read book The Secret of the Curé D'Ars written by Henri Ghéon and published by . This book was released on 2022-07-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life of St. John Vianney, also known as the Curé d'Ars (priest of Ars), is marked by boundless humility and obedience to God. When this simple French priest was assigned in 1818 to the parish of Ars, a town containing barely 250 inhabitants, few would have guessed that it would lead to his international recognition. Disturbed by the religious ignorance and indifference brought about by the French Revolution and openly displayed by his congregation, John Vianney began work in his parish that quickly flowered into a radical spiritual transformation of the community and its surrounding inhabitants. By 1827 he was receiving visitors from all over France and beyond, sometimes spending up to sixteen hours a day in the confessional. Despite his success in Ars, Vianney longed for a contemplative life free from his public obligations; but even though he fled from these several times, he always returned to Ars, where he died in 1859. Henri Ghéon's portrayal of this saint is thoroughly engaging while avoiding being overly sentimental; he presents a man of great holiness and inner turmoil, but most of all, of dedication to his parish and community.
Book Synopsis Shepherding the Family of God by : Fr Gustavo Castillo
Download or read book Shepherding the Family of God written by Fr Gustavo Castillo and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an important book, and it comes at a crucial moment when there is growing awareness that we are living in a time of reform and renewal in the Catholic Church. The troubles of the Church in our times are not unique. In fact, we see striking similarities between our times and those of St. John of Avila in pre-Reformation Europe. What Pope Francis has said about our times also applies to St. John's times: "We are not living in an era of change but a change of era." As in John's time, the Church carries out her mission today in an emerging global society marked by rapid and profound changes -- technological, economic, political, and cultural. These changes challenge the Church's moral authority and institutional structures and call into question her truth claims in a secularizing society. In every period of the Church's history, the key to her reform and renewal is the reform and renewal of the priesthood.
