Book excerpt: This is an important book, and it comes at a crucial moment when there is growing awareness that we are living in a time of reform and renewal in the Catholic Church. The troubles of the Church in our times are not unique. In fact, we see striking similarities between our times and those of St. John of Avila in pre-Reformation Europe. What Pope Francis has said about our times also applies to St. John's times: "We are not living in an era of change but a change of era." As in John's time, the Church carries out her mission today in an emerging global society marked by rapid and profound changes -- technological, economic, political, and cultural. These changes challenge the Church's moral authority and institutional structures and call into question her truth claims in a secularizing society. In every period of the Church's history, the key to her reform and renewal is the reform and renewal of the priesthood.

Because of this, the number of pastors who start with a great zeal for the work, quickly crash and burn and are left with a battered faith and family. This book seeks to identify those unique challenges, diagnose the problem, propose a biblical solution, and then guide the pastor and his family to embrace these challenges while shepherding the family through them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a ROADMAP for Pastors and House Church Leaders! The training of church leaders has been one of Z.T Fomum's main areas of contribution to church growth. Leading a House Church was born out of the burden and need for competent pastors for the growing number of House Churches in the city of Yaounde. The lessons in the book are practical applications of the theory and doctrine developed in The Ministers and the Ministry of the New Covenant—The Challenge of Missions—also written by the author. According to the author, a pastor is a person who bears the flock on his heart. He focus on the character and personality of the one called to take the flock in their arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to bring them to the Promised Land of God. As a veteran on the subject, Z.T. Fomum presents a heart-to-heart exposé on the disciplines of the pastoral ministry, including a broad spectrum of both the practical aspects and the dynamics of leading a house church before God. If you desire to be a pastor, this book will help you on seeking and receiving the pastor's heart. We send them out with a heart-cry that they contribute to produce the type of leaders that are needed for the Lord's flock on the eve of His imminent return.

Book excerpt: An engaging history of the Shepherding Movement, an influential and controversial expression of the charismatic renewal in the 1970s and 1980s. This neopentecostal movement, led by popular Bible teachers Ern Baxter, Don Basham, Bob Mumford, Derek Prince and Charles Simpson, became a house church movement in the United States. The Shepherding Movement is a case study of an attempt at renewing church structures. Many critics accused the movement of being authoritarian because of its emphasis on submission to a personal pastor or "shepherd" as they termed it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Ephesians 5:25, God calls husbands to love their wives just as Christ loves His bride, the church. For husbands to succeed in fulfilling this commandment, they need a good understanding of how the Lord acts as our Shepherd, as shown in Psalm 23. In Good Shepherd, Good Husband, author Moy Soriano offers a unique voice to the subject of being a husband, speaking from his passion for God’s Word, the testimony of a miraculously restored marriage, and his Latino upbringing. Building on his own experiences, he explores the vital skills of leading your wife while also attending to and caring for her. He establishes the ways in which God sees leaders and husbands as shepherds and then brings Psalm 23 to life in a new way, unpacking twelve vignettes within this passage, each one rich in the poetry of God as our Shepherd. In this way, he challenges all husbands to become good shepherds in their marriages. Learn how Christ, the Great Shepherd, loves His bride, the church, and in turn shows us how to love our wives just as He does in this revealing study of Psalm 23.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traditional pastoral role has changed over the last decades, largely due to the growth of mega-churches. The senior pastor has tended to become more an executive leader with an emphasis on public preaching as the figurehead of a large organisation. The traditional pastoral role has been superseded in large part in these situations, with much of the regular pastoral role being performed by a range of associate pastors/elders with a primary function as pastors, with little if any preaching component. In the past, many churches did not have any pastoral assistance, and often the pastor was assisted by deacons, performing de facto pastoral roles, whilst also performing the normal administrative functions usually ascribed to deacons. This has meant that often the expectancy of performing this de facto pastoral role, has led to a more selective process for choosing deacons, often precluding some well-equipped and gifted men from a serving ministry because they did not simultaneously qualify as elders. We look at the pastoral role generally, but with a view to multiplying this role in order to meet the needs of growing congregations through the introduction of elders. Some practical considerations are given for the transition to introduce these changes. Alongside this, what is the function of women in leadership ministries of the church?
