Do you feel as if your life doesn’t really count for much? Are you feeling defeated because of past or current failures? Are you wondering if there even is a God who cares about you and has a plan and a purpose for your life? Life can be very discouraging at times, and it is easy to slip into an attitude of despair and defeat. Looking back over the course of his life, author John Gowan came to realize that God did have a plan for his life greater than anything he could have imagined as a child, as a teenager, or as a young adult. Most of us have seasons of life that make it seem as if we are going nowhere. It wasn’t until he was in his early forties that John even came to have faith in Christ. But that faith has made all the difference in his life and the choices that followed. In this book, John not only chronicles his faith journey from childhood to adulthood but also shares insights on such topics as the end times and what kind of legacy we should want to leave. He will challenge you to think outside the box in his chapter “Things to Ponder.” Many today feel that we are living in very distressing times when not only our individual lives but life in general seems very uncertain. It is times like these that make seeking to grow your faith in a loving God even more important. What was true for the author is also true for you as you seek to know the one who created you and loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die for you.

In essence, the men were the pen (or quill) in the hand of God. Each of our lives is also a book to be read by others. Some books have more chapters. Some have longer chapters. Some have more colorful chapters. With some, the ending is too abrupt. Ordinary Man/Extraordinary God is my attempt to be a pen in the hand of God. It is my attempt to brag about God by recalling His involvement in my life. I hope it inspires you to reflect and look for moments where you can brag about Him too.

This book was released on 2023-08-02 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After retiring as a veterinarian, the author had much more time to spend with others, so he related stories of many of the experiences in his life. He was asked by family, friends, and others with whom he had shared if he had recorded these stories. Ernest never wanted to write his life story, but God revealed to him that he should record his experiences and title the book An Ordinary Man, An Extraordinary God. His procrastination to write ended when he had a back fusion with two rods and ten screws which required him to lay on a bone stimulator for four hours a day for six months; and during that time, he was not able to do any physical work. The book would show how God could take a country boy raised on a farm and use him to bring glory to God. Explaining how God used him could encourage others who also thought they were "nobodies" to realize that God could use any person that believed in God and spent time in His Word to walk in the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. The book begins just before Ernest received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and continues showing how, through His Word, the author received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, learned to walk in the Spirit, witnessed about God to others, prayed the prayer of faith for healing, cast out demons, and did other works of God. His walk with God and how he grew in faith is shared chronologically in the book. Now he could understand the groaning of the spirit within a Christian for the day of redemption when he would enter God's presence and be with Jesus for eternity.

God's invisible hand is at work in the lives of people who trust Him and walk obediently with Him. God's hand saves, guides, provides, heals and performs miracles, but remains unseen to the human eye. Just as we cannot see the wind, but we can experience the effects of the wind, even so we can experience the invisible hand of God at work in our lives. This book is about the invisible hand of an extraordinary God at work in the life of an ordinary man

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You don't have to be perfect to do God's work. Look no further than the twelve disciples, whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of the New Testament. Join bestselling author John MacArthur in Twelve Ordinary Men as he draws principles from Christ's careful, hands-on training of the original disciples for today's modern disciple, you! Jesus chose ordinary men--fishermen, tax collectors, political zealots--and turned their weakness into strength, producing greatness from people who were otherwise unremarkable. The twelve disciples weren't the stained-glass saints we imagine. On the contrary, they were truly human, all too prone to mistakes, misstatements, wrong attitudes, lapses of faith, and bitter failure. Simply put, they were flawed people, just like us. But under Jesus' teaching and touch, they became a force that forever changed the world. MacArthur takes you into the inner circle of the disciples--their selection, their training, their personalities, and their incredible impact. As MacArthur took a closer look at the lives of the twelve disciples, he found himself asking difficult questions along the way, including: Why did Jesus pick each of the twelve disciples? How did Jesus teach them everything he could in just eighteen short months? Can the lessons that Jesus taught the disciples can still influence our faith today? In Twelve Ordinary Men, you'll learn that disciples are living proof that God's strength is made perfect in weakness. As you get to know the men who walked with Jesus, you'll see that if he can accomplish his purposes through them, he can do the same through you.

These moments represent gateways into seeing the supernatural, allowing us to experience the life-changing extraordinary in the face of the ordinary. In his memoir, The Extraordinary Events of an Ordinary Man, author Robert Nickle shares how discovering that coincidence is really God's way of performing a miracle opened the curtain of his life. He describes how he was unaware that God's hand had been with him through a sound Christian upbringing, five successful career paths, and countless difficult times. The discovery that this was true was the crucible from which emerged a revived passion for painting watercolors with Christian symbols in each one, preaching in local churches, speaking at weekend retreats, and leading Bible studies. If your life's purpose or fulfillment are not what you want them to be, or if you want to leave a greater legacy to those you love, Nickle's story can help guide you to the knowledge you need.

Book excerpt: As the world celebrates the life of Billy Graham, Lon Allison shares the story of the man and his message of Jesus Christ with a whole new generation. “My prayer is that this book will be read by a generation that has never heard of Billy Graham.... I also write for those who are broadly attached to the Christian faith, and for those who have had only a small or short brush with faith in their lives. Billy impacted everyone from Catholics and Lutherans to Bible Church Evangelicals and Assembly of God Charismatics. As I hope you will hear clearly in what follows, he touched people like me with very little religious background. He was the ‘Pastor to Presidents’ and a spiritual guide to celebrities. But more than everything else, he was a friend of Jesus and passionately devoted to telling Jesus’s story to everyone he possibly could in all the world.” —Lon Allison, from the introduction Billy Graham said, “You have no idea how sick I get of the name Billy Graham, and how wonderful and thrilling the name Christ sounds to my ears.” So, then, why another book about him? Lon Allison, an evangelist himself, and popular evangelical pastor in Wheaton, Illinois, has learned much from Billy. Allison retells the highlights of what has been, by any objective account, a fascinating life, and tells it is a way that resonates with the Graham legacy of serving God and seeking to spread the Good News. Every stage of Graham’s life is included, even the rough spots, with appreciation and a desire to answer the question: What can we learn from the life and ministry of Billy Graham? What is his legacy? What was his message and how might it still be relevant for today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YOUR LIFE CAN BE EXTRAORDINARY!This book was not written for those who think they are God's best. It was written for those who feel unqualified to be called by God for a higher purpose. Jesus is walking the highways and seeking to redeem those who are lost, deep in sin and rejected of men. He wants to give these people purpose and use them in an extraordinary way. It does not matter what their history is, but whether they are hungry for God. Many struggle with personal sins and failure and feel unfit for God's use. They often look at the heroes of the Bible as super saints, but many of them weren't so super in reality. God called many of these people when they were deep in sin, blinded by rage or rejected of men. There was nothing really great about them, but their God was great. They were no different from you or I. They were ordinary men and women used by an EXTRAORDINARY GOD!This book looks at the lives of some of the men and women used by God in the Bible. I chose to focus on the primary godly attribute of each Biblical hero and then examine the sin or weakness they struggled with most. These saints or patriarchs are portrayed in a realistic manner in this book. God never intended for us to idolize these men and women. Instead He wanted us to see His great grace in action through mankind. At the end of this book I challenge the reader to pick up the mantles of these Biblical heroes and those used by God throughout Church history. Any Christian can be used by God in an extraordinary way. God is looking for those like Elisha who said, "Where is the God of Elijah?" Will you pick up the mantles that have been forgotten? Will you be the next David? The next Paul? Read this book and awaken God's call on your life today!

Book excerpt: Radical. Crazy. Transformative and restless. Every word we read these days seems to suggest there’s a “next-best-thing,” if only we would change our comfortable, compromising lives. In fact, the greatest fear most Christians have is boredom—the sense that they are missing out on the radical life Jesus promised. One thing is certain. No one wants to be “ordinary.” Yet pastor and author Michael Horton believes that our attempts to measure our spiritual growth by our experiences, constantly seeking after the next big breakthrough, have left many Christians disillusioned and disappointed. There’s nothing wrong with an energetic faith; the danger is that we can burn ourselves out on restless anxieties and unrealistic expectations. What’s needed is not another program or a fresh approach to spiritual growth; it’s a renewed appreciation for the commonplace. Far from a call to low expectations and passivity, Horton invites readers to recover their sense of joy in the ordinary. He provides a guide to a sustainable discipleship that happens over the long haul—not a quick fix that leaves readers empty with unfulfilled promises. Convicting and ultimately empowering, Ordinary is not a call to do less; it’s an invitation to experience the elusive joy of the ordinary Christian life.

Book excerpt: “What is happening to my life?” Have you ever honestly asked yourself that question? As young boys, we dreamed of being pilots, firefighters, doctors, and cowboys. Now we’re older, with a wonderful wife and kids, as well as a mortgage, a minivan, and a fulfilling but not-so-glamorous job. What happened? All the dreams that once inspired us have evaporated into traffic jams, computer screens, bills, and deadlines. Why is life so ordinary? If you think your life is nothing special, take a look at it through God’s eyes. The revealing truth is that God chooses “ordinary,” faithful men to do His most important work—regular guys like Peter the fisherman, David the shepherd, Stephen the waiter, Gideon the farmer, Paul the tentmaker, and even Jesus the carpenter. In this engaging book, Troy Meeder blends stories about biblical characters and contemporary men to show that an “average-Joe” life, an “ordinary” existence, shapes a man’s integrity, moral stability, resolve, and strength. The world desperately needs an army of “average Joes.” Like you. “Troy Meeder’s heart-felt accounts from both his own personal experience and those of friends and family touch a raw nerve in your soul…. Average Joe reminds us that living a life focused on faith, family, and friends is what makes a man exceptional.” —Rick Wiggers, average Joe and account manager Includes a study guide for use by men’s groups.

Nothing warned Stephanie about the fatal diagnosis that would follow her dad's question, but something did prepare her—an event that happened in 1986. Anything But Ordinary tells the story of the divine encounter that changed the trajectory of one man's life and the faith that profoundly influenced the too-short journey to his death. Jesse Morales was an ordinary Filipino immigrant and mechanic who found the better life he was looking for when he met Jesus. With refreshing vulnerability, this story shows what living by faith looks like. It spotlights the legacy of faith Jesse left, not only for his family, but scores of others, when he passed away from ALS. The books serves as a powerful reminder that there is hope. It will encourage you to see impossible struggles as the birthplace for inspiring faith. Read it and be reminded that when life isn't working, you can hold onto the God who always is.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preached at Enfield, Connecticut on July 8, 1741, this is perhaps the greatest sermon ever preached in America—and is certainly among the most well known. Owing to its forthright dealing with God’s wrath and His intense hatred of sin and the sinner, it is also one of the most controversial. Indeed, for more than three-quarters of the sermon Edwards lays down a relentless stream of the most vivid and horrifying descriptions of the danger facing unregenerate men. While it is difficult to read such graphic language, there is abundant hope in the sermon’s conclusion. Edwards puts it this way, “And now you have an extraordinary opportunity, a day wherein Christ has thrown the door of mercy wide open and stands calling and crying with a loud voice to poor sinners.” While those who would rather ignore God’s justice in favor of His mercy condemn Edwards and his sermon, those who were present and actually heard him preach that day reacted in a decidedly different manner. According to the diary of Reverend Stephen Williams who attended the sermon, “Before the sermon was done there was a great moaning and crying through the whole House, ‘what shall I do to be saved; oh, I am going to hell, etc.’” The diary goes on to indicate that Edwards had to interrupt his sermon and come down to minister to those who were under such awful conviction. And so, in spite of what the scoffers might think or say, “the amazing and astonishing power of God” was manifested among the people that day—with many falling not into the hands of an angry God, but into the arms of a mighty Savior.
