Book excerpt: This book is all-encompassing and comprehensive in its descriptions of the portents of the Last Hour. Allaah sent Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) with the truth to give glad tidings to mankind and to warn them before the strike of the Hour such that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) neither left any good except that he showed mankind and exhorted them to practise it, nor did he leave any evil except that he warned them about it and forbade them from indulging in it. It was expedient for the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) to inform his followers about the coming of the Hour and the portents heralding it as well as other matters of the unseen as he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was the last Prophet and Messenger sent to mankind, while his followers are the last community or generation (Ummah).Although Allaah has concealed the knowledge of the exact time of the Hour and the Day of Resurrection from the whole of mankind, Allaah has, however, revealed to His chosen Prophet the signs of the Hour and has acquainted him with the events that would take place on earth before its coming. And all that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) has said on this matter were not out of his own desire; rather, they are revelation from Allaah, the Exalted and Most High. The preceding events before the Last Hour are generally grouped into two:I. Minor Signs or Lesser Signs or Distant SignsII. Major Signs or Greater Signs or Near SignsThe minor or lesser signs are referred to as such not because they are less significant than the major signs but rather due to their repeated occurrence, their occurring without any specific sequence and their placement when compared to the major signs with respect to the blast of the Hour and Day of Resurrection; most of the minor signs occur from time to time and from places to places. The major signs, however, follow one another in a sequence; they are much closer to the Hour and actually herald it. These major signs are the closest signs to the last Day or Day of Resurrection.Today, some of the minor signs prophesied by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) are at their peak and some are still at the beginning of their development. All will eventually culminate into the major signs. These major signs will occur one after the other and they are referred to as "Near Signs" because they will be the signs closest to the establishment of the Last Hour when the trumpet will be blown. When a sign of the Hour mentioned by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) comes to pass and the people witness it, they begin to realize that the coming of the Hour is an inevitable event of which there is no doubt. They will hold the Hour with fear and esteem and make preparations for it by performing good deeds and eschewing evil deeds. This is Allaah''s justice to mankind before the torment of the Day of Recompense, "Lest a person should say: ''Ah! Woe upon me that I neglected my duty towards Allaah and I was indeed among those who mocked [at the truth],'' or lest he should say: ''If only Allaah had guided me, I should indeed have been among the righteous,'' or lest he should say when he sees the torment: ''If only I had another chance [to return to the world], then I should indeed be among those who do good.''" (ref. Soorah az-Zumar [39]:56-58)Attempts have been made in the book utilizing the most authentic and reliable sources to enumerate the signs of the Last Hour prophesied by Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).Likewise, effort has been made in the book to expel the distortions, prophecies and fantasies of the futurists, the seers and the prognosticators, who, at difference times, make predictions of the end and destruction of the universe, creating panic and commotion, and at the same time gaining recognition. It is a well-researched book and it is thoroughly referenced for seekers of knowledge and seekers of truth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A journey through the Book of CertitudeThe Kitáb-i-Íqán is one of the most important Writings of Bahá'u'lláh, the Founder of the Bahá'í Faith. Bahá'u'lláh revealed this book within the space of two days and two nights, in the last years of His stay in Baghdád (AH 1278-AD 1862). According to Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian of the Bahá'í Faith, The Kitáb-i-Íqán sets "forth in outline the Grand Redemptive Scheme of God" and it "occupies a position unparalleled by any work in the entire range of the Bahá'í literature, except The Kitáb-i-Aqdas Bahá'u'lláh's Most Holy Book."This current book is a record of the journey that the author has taken through The Kitáb-i-Íqán over a period of 12 years. It is not an interpretation or a critical analysis of the content of the book. Neither does it provide any personal opinion. It primarily guides reader through a systematic study of the Íqán while providing some background information on topics raised by Bahá'u'lláh in each paragraph. It is called a tutorial as it attempts to simulate, as much as possible, the tutor-tutored relationship in a self-paced personal study. All the references in the tutorial are sourced either from authoritative Bahá'í materials or obtained from other reliable sources. The 290 paragraphs of The Kitáb-i-Íqán are apportioned for study to 58 chapters. The size and complexity of each chapter reflects the content and intricacy of the issues addressed in the paragraphs included therein. Each chapter starts with an introduction that highlights the key ideas. Then in a coherent manner, background information on the terminologies, references and mystical concepts inherent in each paragraph is provided. The tutorial covers the 266 topics embedded in The Kitáb-i-Íqán. This second edition of the book, which was originally released in 2012, contains many editing improvements, and some changes and additions to the content.

This Book is a detailed review of all important signs of Judgment Day. Book will be narrating Quran and Sunnah. Book will also be narrating other sources. Then book will derive from those sources. Because we need to really think deeply about these things. There are major issues discussed. Like Ya'juj and Ma'juj. What do we say about them? Where are these billions of people? Where are they living? Dajjal is he alive or dead? What supernatural power does he have? Does this mean that Dajjal is some mystical force? Or is he an actual entity? These are various theories around them. And all of them are discussed in this book. In the genre of signs of judgment, you have these phrases that might be difficult to unpack. One of the wisdoms might be that, you only recognize it after it happens. And Allah knows best. The book mentions the minor signs and the major signs of Judgment Day. The minor cover categories of specific incidents and number general trends that will be events towards the end of times. Book mentions societal changes that will occur, including change in culture, the way people live and the way people interact with one another. Now, there are many Hadiths that are predicting signs of the Day of Judgement. There's entire section of hadiths that are not authentic. But book will be mentioning every hadith that is authentic. And to cover all bases, Book will inform on what unauthentic Hadiths say on that specific subject.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jihad is one of the most loaded and misunderstood terms in the news today. Contrary to popular understanding, the term does not mean "holy war." Nor does it simply refer to the inner spiritual struggle. This book, judiciously balanced, accessibly written, and highly relevant to today's events, unravels the tangled historical, intellectual, and political meanings of jihad. Looking closely at a range of sources from sacred Islamic texts to modern interpretations, Understanding Jihad opens a critically important perspective on the role of Islam in the contemporary world. As David Cook traces the practical and theoretical meanings of jihad, he cites from scriptural, legal, and newly translated texts to give readers a taste of the often ambiguous information that is used to construct Islamic doctrine. He looks closely at the life and teaching of the Prophet Muhammad and at the ramifications of the great Islamic conquests in 634 to 732 A.D. He sheds light on legal developments relevant to fighting and warfare, and places the internal, spiritual jihad within the larger context of Islamic religion. He describes some of the conflicts that occur in radical groups and shows how the more mainstream supporters of these groups have come to understand and justify violence. He has also included a special appendix of relevant documents including materials related to the September 11 attacks and published manifestoes issued by Osama bin Laden and Palestinian suicide-martyrs.

Hadjiev introduces students to the books of Joel, Obadiah, Habakkuk, and Zephaniah (the Minor Prophets) in their original historical contexts and to the issues surrounding their composition and interpretation. Hadjiev pays particular attention to important topics such as eschatology, prophecy and cult, intertextuality, theodicy and the genre of the prophetic book. Readers will come to grips with the key themes of judgment, repentance, and salvation in relation to their historical and canonical contexts. Finally, Hadjiev provides a theological evaluation of the prophetic attitude to foreigners and the vision of their final destruction, which is pervasive in Joel, Obadiah, Habakkuk and Zephaniah, and helps readers to grapple with this theme in a modern context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Hirschkind's unique study explores how a popular Islamic media form the cassette sermon has profoundly transformed the political geography of the Middle East over the last three decades. An essential aspect of what is now called the Islamic Revival, the cassette sermon has become omnipresent in most Middle Eastern cities, punctuating the daily routines of many men and women. Hirschkind shows how sermon tapes have provided one of the means by which Islamic ethical traditions have been recalibrated to a modern political and technological order to its noise and forms of pleasure and boredom, but also to its political incitements and call for citizen participation. Contrary to the belief that Islamic cassette sermons are a tool of militant indoctrination, Hirschkind argues that sermon tapes serve as an instrument of ethical self-improvement and as a vehicle for honing the sensibilities and affects of pious living. Focusing on Cairo's popular neighborhoods, Hirschkind highlights the pivotal role these tapes now play in an expanding arena of Islamic argumentation and debate what he calls an "Islamic counterpublic." This emerging arena connects Islamic traditions of ethical discipline to practices of deliberation about the common good, the duties of Muslims as national citizens, and the challenges faced by diverse Muslim communities around the globe. The Ethical Soundscape is a brilliant analysis linking modern media practices of moral self-fashioning to the creation of increasingly powerful religious publics.
