It was a world filled with wickedness and greed and He knew he would not be able to build a church here without God's help. To Frenchy, he was a man unlike any she had ever known. To give all that he had and ask for nothing in return made no sense and she was determined to find out what made this man tick. To Nick, he was a problem that had to be eliminated before he ruined the world he had created. The story of these conflicting lives was played out beneath the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains and only God himself could know the dramatic events that would resolve the conflicts of lives on a collision course. For nearly 40 years I have been fascinated by the mining history of my state. I have visited many of the old mining camps and sought out the history of the colorful people that lived in those places. In so doing I discovered a world of high adventure and larger than life characters that once lived in those remote mountain locations. To gain a more intimate knowledge of that world I worked in the mining industry. One summer several of the miners agreed in pray that even tough and independent men like the ones that worked in our mines could be saved. God answered our prayers and over the summer many gave their lives to Christ. It made me wonder what it would have been like if a man of God had determined to bring revival to one of those notorious gold camps. This story is the result of that idea.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on Slovenian mythology the book contains a review of Slovenian mythological, historical, and narrative material. Over 150 supernatural beings are presented, both lexically and according to the role that they have in Slovenian folklore. They are classified by type, characteristic, features, and by the message conveyed in their motifs and contents. The material has been analysed in the context of European and some non-European mythological concepts, and the author deals with theory and interpretations as well as the conclusions of domestic and foreign researchers. The book forms new starting points and a classification of supernatural beings within a frame of a number of sources, some of which have been published for the first time in this book.

Book excerpt: This is the story of David Michael Sonneman and an ancient cross forged of gold that weaves its way through the ages and the heritage of two long standing families that date back to the colonial foundations of both America and the Caribbean islands of the once formidable Spanish Empire. This epic saga is the story of that man and the gift of his golden cross as told through the unlikely lens of a traditional middle-class man of Irish-American descent, Mr. Ronan James Cassidy. While the lives of both men intersect for the unlikeliest of reasons, they are both on a journey in search of their own redemption for varying reasons. Mr. Sonneman and his sister, Nadie are the both the product of neglect and abuse brought about by unfortunate circumstances and centuries old traditions of the deeply European rooted elite caste of American society. As both Mr. Cassidy and Mr. Sonneman discover the dirty secrets of David’s past and the untold wealth tied to his ancient cross of gold, a plan emerges that was formed long ago by God to return His two once lost children to His graces and levy judgment upon those responsible for the degenerate care of David and his ancestors leading into the American social and financial upheaval of our era. This is the song of both men’s long sought redemption and the return to grace of those who bore the legacy of the golden cross over the centuries that corresponded to the rise of the west. For it is through the emergence of the faith of these two men alone that both manage to persevere through the far different but trying challenges of their life. “Return to me” and “My peace be with you” are the watchwords offered and answered by these two men.

Book excerpt: Intended for students as well as scholars of religion and violence, Belief and Bloodshed discusses how the relationship between religion and violence is not unique to a post-9/11 world_it has existed throughout all of recorded history and culture. The book makes clear the complex interactions between religion, violence, and politics to show that religion as always innocent or always evil is misguided, and that rationalizations by religion for political power and violence are not new. Chronologically organized, the book shows religiously motivated violence across a variety of historical periods and cultures, moving from the ancient to medieval to the modern world, ending with an essay comparing the speeches of an ancient king to the speeches of the current U.S. President.

Book excerpt: Medieval Authorship and Cultural Exchange in the Late Fifteenth Century is a multidisciplinary study of late medieval authorship and the military orders, framed as a whodunit that uncovers the anonymous author of the ‘Utrecht Chronicle of the Teutonic Order’. Through a close analysis of the Utrecht Chronicle of the Teutonic Order and its manuscripts, and by exploiting a wide range of scholarly techniques, from traditional philology and extensive codicological examinations to modern digital humanities techniques, the book argues that the recently resurfaced Vienna manuscript is actually an author’s copy, written in direct cooperation with the original author. This important assertion leads to a reinterpretation of the text, its sources and composition, authorship, and the context in which it was conceived. It allows us to associate the text with an upsurge of historiographical activities by various military orders across the continent, seemingly in response to the publication and aggressive dissemination of the account of the Siege of Rhodes by Guillaume Caoursin in 1480. Furthermore, the text can be positioned at the crossroads between different cultural spheres, ranging from the Baltic region to the Low Countries, spanning French, German, Dutch, and Latin linguistic traditions. This book will appeal to scholars and students of medieval history, as well as those interested in cultural history and the military religious orders.
