Mans chief and highest end is to glorify God (a), and fully to enjoy him forever (b).Q. 2.How doth it appear that there is a God? A.2. The very light of nature in man, and the works of God, declare plainly that there is a God fcj; but his word and Spirit only do, sufficiently and effectually, reveal him unto men for their salvation (d).F CaJ Rm11-36. Ccj Rom.1.19, 20.Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. Vsalm 19. 1, 2, 3.The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handy work. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. fdj 1 Cor. 2. 9, 10.But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God.2 Tim. 3. 15, 16, 17.And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
