In selecting materials to be annotated for this book, the first priority was given to empirical studies. Also included were articles by prominent practitioners and researchers interested in elderly sexuality, literature reviews, and books written for the lay population which are often cited in the professional literature. Book excerpt: Across the globe, both in developed and developing countries, the population is rapidly ageing. In the fields of sexual and relationship therapy and sexual health, ageing has not been an issue of priority. Too often, ageing is thought of as a process that relates to problems, deficits, and taboos, and less to pleasure, change, growth and diversity. It is treated as a separate life stage and not a process throughout the lifecycle. Sexuality and sexual health are important parts of the lives of older people, as they have a significant impact on quality of life, psychological well-being and physical health, as well as social and family life. This book brings together contributions from those currently writing on and researching ageing as it relates, in a therapeutic context, to gender identity, to sex and sexuality, and to intimate relationships. This book was originally published as a special issue of Sexual and Relationship Therapy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental to understanding human sexual expression is reliable and valid measurement and assessment. Many instruments have been developed to measure a myriad of sexuality-related states, traits, behaviors, and outcomes. Few are easily accessible and the information is limited concerning appropriate use and psychometric properties. In Handbook of Sexuality-Related Measures, more than 200 instruments are reproduced, accompanied by the necessary information for their use in research, as well as educational and clinical settings. Measures relating to more than 50 topics are included. Examples are abortion, aging, arousal, general and specific attitudes and behavior, contraception, dysfunctions, education, experience, gender identity, homosexuality, ideology, jealousy, knowledge, masturbation, orgasm, rape, and sexually transmitted diseases. Each chapter describes the development and appropriate use of each instrument, giving information on timing, scoring, and interpretation. Reliability and validity data are, summarized and completely referenced. Nearly all articles include the entire instrument; others provide illustrative content from the instrument and give all necessary information to obtain the instrument.
