Book Synopsis Reactions in the Solid State by : Michael E. Brown
Download or read book Reactions in the Solid State written by Michael E. Brown and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1980-01-01 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The whole of Volume 22 is devoted to the kinetics and mechanisms of the decomposition and interaction of inorganic solids, extended to include metal carboxylates. After an introductory chapter on the characteristic features of reactions in the solid phase, experimental methods of investigation of solid reactions and the measurement of reaction rates are reviewed in Chapter 2 and the theory of solid state kinetics in Chapter 3. The reactions of single substances, loosely grouped on the basis of a common anion since it is this constituent which most frequently undergoes breakdown, are discussed in Chapter 4, the sequence being effectively that of increasing anion complexity. Chapter 5 covers reactions between solids, and includes catalytic processes where one solid component remains unchanged, double compound formation and rate processes involving the interactions of more than three crystalline phases. The final chapter summarises the general conclusions drawn in the text of Chapter 2-5.
Book Synopsis Kinetics of Heterogeneous Solid State Processes by : Pritam Deb
Download or read book Kinetics of Heterogeneous Solid State Processes written by Pritam Deb and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kinetic studies have traditionally being extremely useful in characterizing several physical and chemical phenomena in organic, inorganic and metallic systems. It provides valuable qualitative, quantitative and kinetic information on phase transformations, solid state precipitation, crystallization, oxidation and decomposition. Unfortunately, no single reference comprehensively presents nonisothermal kinetic analysis method for the study of complex processes, determining the actual mechanism and kinetic parameters. This book provides a new method for nonisothermal kinetics and its application in heterogeneous solid state processes. In the backdrop of limitations in existing methods, the book presents a brief review of the widely used isothermal and nonisothermal kinetic analysis methods.
Book Synopsis Chemical Kinetics of Solids by : Hermann Schmalzried
Download or read book Chemical Kinetics of Solids written by Hermann Schmalzried and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many different chemical processes take place inside solids or at solid surfaces and interfaces. However, their quantitative description sometimes seems difficult to understand. This book by Professor Schmalzried, author of the eminently successful Solid State Reactions; bridges the gap between the 'physical' and 'chemical' approaches to this subject because it is written in a language which both sides understand. For the first time, a comprehensive coverage of the rapidly developing field of Solid State Kinetics is available. The topics covered in this book go far beyond diffusional transport. Homogeneous and heterogeneous solid-state reactions, phase transitions or the influence of external fields are also treated in detail. With this background, the author explains e.g. charge transport mechanisms in ionic conductors, principles of sensor technology, or oxidation processes clearly and comprehensibly. This book is a must for every solid-state chemist and an indispensable tool for academic and industrial readers alike. From reviews: 'a first-rate reference work that a must for any science library' (J. Am Chem. Soc.) 'can be recommended without restrictions ...' (Z. Phys. Chem.)

Book Synopsis Reaction Diffusion and Solid State Chemical Kinetics by : V.I. Dybkov
Download or read book Reaction Diffusion and Solid State Chemical Kinetics written by V.I. Dybkov and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2010-03-18 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters BCI (WoS). This monograph deals with a physico-chemical approach to the problem of the solid-state growth of chemical compound layers and reaction-diffusion in binary heterogeneous systems formed by two solids; as well as a solid with a liquid or a gas. It is explained why the number of compound layers growing at the interface between the original phases is usually much lower than the number of chemical compounds in the phase diagram of a given binary system. For example, of the eight intermetallic compounds which exist in the aluminium-zirconium binary system, only ZrAl3 was found to grow as a separate layer at the AlZr interface under isothermal conditions. The physico-chemical approach predicts that, in most cases, the number of compound layers should not exceed two; with the main factor, resulting in the appearance of additional layers, being crack formation due to thermal expansion and volume effects.

Download or read book Treatise on Solid State Chemistry written by N. Hannay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last quarter-century has been marked by the extremely rapid growth of the solid-state sciences. They include what is now the largest subfield of physics, and the materials engineering sciences have likewise flourished. And, playing an active role throughout this vast area of science and engineer ing have been very large numbers of chemists. Yet, even though the role of chemistry in the solid-state sciences has been a vital one and the solid-state sciences have, in turn, made enormous contributions to chemical thought, solid-state chemistry has not been recognized by the general body of chemists as a major subfield of chemistry. Solid-state chemistry is not even well defined as to content. Some, for example, would have it include only the quantum chemistry of solids and would reject thermodynamics and phase equilibria; this is nonsense. Solid-state chemistry has many facets, and one of the purposes of this Treatise is to help define the field. Perhaps the most general characteristic of solid-state chemistry, and one which helps differentiate it from solid-state physics, is its focus on the chemical composition and atomic configuration of real solids and on the relationship of composition and structure to the chemical and physical properties of the solid. Real solids are usually extremely complex and exhibit almost infinite variety in their compositional and structural features.

Book Synopsis Thermal Decomposition of Ionic Solids by : A.K. Galwey
Download or read book Thermal Decomposition of Ionic Solids written by A.K. Galwey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-02-25 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal objective of this book is to stimulate interest in research that will extend available theory towards a greater understanding of the steps involved in solid-state decompositions and the properties of solids that control reactivities. Much of the activity in this field has been directed towards increasing the range of reactants for which decomposition kinetic data is available, rather than extending insights into the fundamental chemistry of the reactions being studied. The first part of the book (Chapters 1-6) is concerned with theoretical aspects of the subject. The second part (Chapters 7-17) surveys groups of reactions classified by similarities of chemical composition. The final Chapter (18) reviews the subject by unifying features identified as significant and proposes possible directions for future progress.Studies of thermal reactions of ionic compounds have contributed considerably to the theory of solid-state chemistry. Furthermore, many of these rate processes have substantial technological importance, for example, in the manufacture of cement, the exploitation of ores and in the stability testing of drugs, explosives and oxidizing agents. Despite the prolonged and continuing research effort concerned with these reactions, there is no recent overall review. This book is intended to contribute towards correcting this omission. The essential unity of the subject is recognized by the systematic treatment of reactions, carefully selected to be instructive and representative of the subject as a whole. The authors have contributed more than 200 original research articles to the literature, many during their 25 years of collaboration.Features of this book:• Gives a comprehensive in-depth survey of a rarely-reviewed subject.• Reviews methods used in studies of thermal decompositions of solids.• Discusses patterns of subject development perceived from an extensive literature survey. This book is expected to be of greatest value and interest to scientists concerned with the chemical properties and reactions of solids, including chemists, physicists, pharmacists, material scientists, crystallographers, metallurgists and others. This wide coverage of the literature dealing with thermal reactions of solids will be of value to both academic and industrial researchers by reviewing the current status of the theory of the subject. It could also provide a useful starting point for the exploitation of crystalline materials in practical and industrial applications. The contents will also be relevant to a wide variety of researchers, including, for example, those concerned with the stabilities of polymers and composite materials, the processing of minerals, the shelf-lives of pharmaceuticals, etc.
