Both John the Baptist and Jesus warned the religious leaders in Israel against the coming wrath of God. As fruitless trees, Israel would have been cut from the kingdom of God and be burned in the unquenchable fire of his wrath. During the Roman siege of Jerusalem in 66-70, God took out his revenge on first-century Israel for the blood of all his holy prophets and apostles. Numerous figurative images were used by John and Jesus to describe this judgment: the unquenchable fire, fiery furnace, chaff, weeds, burn, outer darkness, and more. Unfortunately throughout history the church has interpreted these images in a literal sense and the hell-doctrine was built from it.In 'The Judgment of Gehenna' the hell-scriptures are looked at in the context that they actually describe a nation that not only murdered God's servants but also had his Son crucified. Yet, 40 years later worms devoured the flesh of the fallen while Jerusalem and the temple was burned to the ground. With that, the wrath of God was fulfilled.
