Book excerpt: This book is BY FAR my favorite book I've written. Many people may not know this about me, but about 5 years ago, I hit my rock bottom. I was severely depressed, addicted to unhealthy substances, and was pretty much done with people altogether. I would literally pack a bowl before going to bed each night so I could reach over in the morning first thing and get high. I didn't want to spend a second of my life sober, so I managed to sneak several smokes a day, even while at work. I hated my job. I practically starved myself into a skeleton. I was in debt. My relationships were strained. Overall, my life sucked. But in reality, it was my MINDSET that sucked. Today my life looks NOTHING like it once did-- the difference between night and day, really. I was able to transform my whole world over the course of several years by first changing my thoughts. After I hit rock bottom and finally decided that I had to change my life, I started reading hundreds of books about spirituality, positivity, manifestation, how to rewire the brain, etc. Over the years, I've taken notes on all of my favorite teachings, the ones that inspired me to blossom into the woman I am proud to be today. It Tickled the Whiskers of My Soul is a book of letters to my "darling little loves" for when they're older, just in case I'm no longer here by the time they're old enough to truly grasp what they're about. In the letters, I summarize the BEST spiritual teachings I've come across in my years of research and practice, the ones that changed my experience of the world in extraordinary ways. The words blessed and grateful hardly feel adequate to express how I feel about my life today. I LOVE MY LIFE NOW! And it's 100% due to the principles I've summarized in this book. The cherry on top is that I had it illustrated because I wanted my little loves to connect with it now, even though they won't read it for years to come. The illustrations are SO CUTE, and they make the book a million times more fun to read. I sincerely hope something in it will ignite something in you that'll provide a key to the greater richness life has to offer!

Book excerpt: Rebecca's Rose is a dramatic memoir of three women's spiritual journey from the 1960's to the 2000's-a story about the power of love to persevere beyond human expectations. It's a true story about a family coping with the agony of a child with a severe mental disorder. Rebecca's challenging life, filled with the scream of ambulances and with courtroom drama, remains suspenseful because she fights her schizophrenia and does not surrender. In the end, the miracle is that, despite all the obstacles and all the pain, she and her family survive. Rebecca's Rose is primarily the story of a young woman's struggle with schizophrenia. But it is also about family relationships and, in particular, one sister's caregiving love for Rebecca, for her parents, and for her children. The close relationship between Jane and her mother only deepens with the approach of death, a death her mother almost welcomes. A year later, Jane's father is diagnosed with cancer and she must continue her painful journey. Jane's harrowing experiences are a cautionary tale for the baby boom generation, as sons and daughter deals with the aging, decline and impending death of their own parents.

Book excerpt: Rise Sister Rise is a call to arms for our sacred feminine to rise up, tell the truth, and lead. From Rebecca Campbell, a writer, mystic, devotional creative, and visionary who supports hundreds of thousands of people to connect with their soul and weave the sacred back into their everyday life. It is for those who agreed at soul level to be here at this stage in history to lead this global shift that the mystics of all of the ages have predicted: the return of the mother and the rise of the feminine. Rebecca says: Rise for you, rise for me, when you rise first you rise for She. Many of us have spent much of our working lives “making it” in a man’s world, leaning on patriarchal methods of survival in order to succeed, dulling down our intuition, and ignoring the fierce power of the feminine. We have ignored the cycles of the feminine in order to survive in a patriarchal linear system—but now the world has changed. Here Are Some of the Chapters in Rise, Sister Rise: Part I – Rebecca’s Story · The Unbinding · The Wise Women · Work Baby · Shakti Rising · Returning to Avalon · Tools for Your Rising Part II – Birthing A New Age · We Were Made for These Times · Shakti Always Rises · The Holy Grail is Within You Part III – Remembering Our Cyclic Nature · You Are Spirit Earthed · You'll Find Your True Nature in Nature · When Whispers Turn into Shouts Part IV – Unbinding the Wise, Wild Woman · The Suppression of the Female Voice · The Mystic Always Rises · Finding Mary · The Return of the Magdalenes Part V – Redefining Sisterhood · The Reunion · The Ones Who Came Before Us · When Women Circle · Your Constellation of Sisters · Calling in Your Sisters Part VI – Doing the Work · What Is Rising in You? · Rising Feminine Archetypes · New World Rising Birthed by You · Let the Universe Use You · Be a Clear Channel · A Prayer for Times of Remembering · It's Not Your Job to Save the World · Keep on Rising “I’m a super-fan of Rebecca Campbell . . . Rebecca guides her reader to step into their authentic power so that they can live and lead at their highest potential.” —Gabrielle Bernstein, New York Times bestselling author of Miracles Now Rise Sister Rise is a transmission that calls the innate divine feminine wisdom to rise. It is about healing the insecurities, the fears, and the inherited patterns that stop people from trusting the Shakti (power) and wisdom (intuition) that effortlessly flows through them. It's about recognizing all of the ways we have been keeping ourselves contained and restrained in effort to dim to fit into a certain archetype. It’s about co-creating a whole new archetype—someone who does not keep themself small in order to make others feel more comfortable. Full of activations, spiritual tools, calls to action, contemplative questions, rituals, and confrontational exercises, this inspirational book teaches that it is safe to let Shakti rise, safe to trust your intuition, and safe to take leaps of faith—because in healing ourselves we are healing the world. “You have an ancient wisdom within you that is waiting for you to remember, hear, and heed it. These Rise Sister Rise calls to action have been carefully designed to assist you in reclaiming your voice, unbinding your power, unlocking your wisdom, unleashing your true nature, and aligning yourselves with the sacred flow of all of Life.” Rise Sister Rise. Book excerpt: The freezing winds off Lake Michigan swept across the snow laden grounds and through the cracks of a building that held southern prisoners in Camp Douglas, Illinois. Huddled with the other prisoners, John mulled over the reasons he had enlisted, even after his father had forbidden it. He knew the only real reason was to protect his best friend Frankie, who had enlisted first but never even bothered to show up at the station when the recruits left for war. Shivering, he wondered if he would ever see his family again and especially the girl he had loved since childhood. John realized that nothing but an act of God could deliver him from this hell on earth. The year was 1864. The Messenger combines the history of the Civil War, the love of family, and faith that holds on to miracles. Author Johnny Neil Smith paints a vivid picture of struggles, belief, fear, and hope wrapped into one fascinating story of how angels still minister and bring courage to those who trust in God. 'Smith's command of the era's politics and history and his feel for Southern family relationships make this tale an above-par work of period fiction.' -Publisher's Weekly

Book excerpt: Leaving the Saints is an unforgettable memoir about one woman’s spiritual quest and journey toward faith. As “Mormon royalty” within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Martha Beck was raised in a home frequented by the Church’s high elders—known as the apostles—and her existence was framed by their strict code of conduct. Wearing her sacred garments, she married in a secret temple ceremony—but only after two Mormon leaders ascertained that her “past contained no flirtation with serious sins, such as committing murder or drinking coffee.” She went to church faithfully with the other brothers and sisters of her ward. When her son was born with Down syndrome, she and her husband left their graduate programs at Harvard to return to Provo, Utah, where they knew the supportive Mormon community would embrace them. However, soon after Martha began teaching at Brigham Young University, she began to see firsthand the Church’s ruthlessness as it silenced dissidents and masked truths that contradicted its published beliefs. Most troubling of all, she was forced to face her history of sexual abuse by one of the Church’s most prominent authorities. This book chronicles her difficult decision to sever her relationship with the faith that had cradled her for so long and to confront and forgive the person who betrayed her so deeply. This beautifully written, inspiring memoir explores the powerful yearning toward faith. It offers a rare glimpse inside one of the world’s most secretive religions while telling a profoundly moving story of personal courage, survival, and the transformative power of spirituality.

Book excerpt: In this dystopian science fiction classic set in a world where women have no rights, the patriarchy sends a covert female agent to take down the resistance. In the second entry of the Native Tongue trilogy, the time has come for Láadan—the secret language created to resist an oppressive patriarchy—to empower womankind worldwide. To expand the language’s reach, female linguists translate the Bible into Láadan, and a group of Roman Catholic nuns are tasked to spread the language. But when outraged priests detect their sabotage, they send a double agent to infiltrate and destroy the movement from the inside… Originally published in the 1980s, the Native Tongue trilogy is a classic dystopian tale: a testament to the power of language and women's collective action. “This angry feminist text is also an exemplary experiment in speculative fiction, deftly and implacably pursuing both a scientific hypothesis and an ideological hypothesis through all their social, moral, and emotional implications.”—Ursula K. Le Guin “Less well known than The Handmaid's Tale but just as apocalyptic in their vision…Native Tongue along with its sequel The Judas Rose . . . record female tribulations in a world where…women have no public rights at all. Elgin's heroines do, however, have one set of weapons—words of their own.”—Sandra M. Gilbert and Susan Gubar, New York Times Book Review “A pioneering feminist experiment.”—Literary Hub “A welcome reminder of the feminist legacies of science fiction…Explores the power of speech, agency, and subversion in a work that is as gripping, troubling, and meaningful today as it has ever been.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
