The warning was inscribed on the entrance of the hidden tomb, forgotten for millennia in the sands of mystic Egypt. Then the archaeologists and grave robbers came in search of the fabled Jewel of Seven Stars, which they found clutched in the hand of the mummy. Few heeded the ancient warning, until all who came in contact with the Jewel began to die in a mysterious and violent way-with the marks of a strangler around their neck.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jewel of Seven Stars (1903) is a novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. Written during a period of increased interest in Egyptology across Europe, The Jewel of Seven Stars helped to establish the Irish master of Gothic horror’s reputation as a leading writer of the early-twentieth century. In the middle of the night, a young lawyer is roused from sleep by Margaret Trelawny. At her urgent request, he accompanies her to the house of her father, Abel Trelawny, a world-renowned Egyptologist. There, Ross discovers the archaeologist unconscious and in a trance-like state on the floor of his bedroom, surrounded by strange and horrifying artifacts. After reading a note left by Trelawny instructing them not to wake him, the group takes turns watching over the injured man. Several nights later, a man arrives who reveals himself to be Eugene Corbeck, a colleague of Trelawny’s who has only recently returned from Egypt. He shares with them the story of their discovery years before of Queen Tera’s tomb. By taking the sarcophagus, the pair unlocked an ancient curse, and have since been struggling to fulfill the prophesy recorded on the wall of the tomb—the resurrection of the Queen. The Jewel of Seven Stars demonstrates not only Stoker’s detailed research of contemporary Egyptology, but an undeniable mastery of horror. Blending nineteenth-century Gothic themes with twentieth-century concerns regarding the legacy of British imperialism, Stoker’s novel is an artifact itself, and a highly entertaining one at that. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Bram Stoker’s The Jewel of Seven Stars is a classic of Irish literature reimagined for modern readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Excellent Collection brings together Bram Stoker's longer, major books and a fine selection of shorter pieces and Fiction Books. These Books created and collected in Bram Stoker's Most important Works illuminate the life and work of one of the most individual writers of the XX century - a man who elevated political writing to an art. Abraham "Bram" Stoker (8 November 1847 – 20 April 1912) was an Irish author, best known today for his 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known as the personal assistant of actor Sir Henry Irving and business manager of the Lyceum Theatre, which Irving owned. Stoker visited the English coastal town of Whitby in 1890, and that visit was said to be part of the inspiration for Dracula. He began writing novels while working as manager for Irving and secretary and director of London's Lyceum Theatre, beginning with The Snake's Pass in 1890 and Dracula in 1897. During this period, Stoker was part of the literary staff of The Daily Telegraph in London, and he wrote other fiction, including the horror novels The Lady of the Shroud (1909) and The Lair of the White Worm (1911). He published his Personal Reminiscences of Henry Irving in 1906, after Irving's death, which proved successful and managed productions at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Before writing Dracula, Stoker met Ármin Vámbéry, a Hungarian-Jewish writer and traveller (born in Szent-György, Kingdom of Hungary now Svätý Jur, Slovakia). Dracula likely emerged from Vámbéry's dark stories of the Carpathian mountains. Stoker then spent several years researching Central and East European folklore and mythological stories of vampire. This Collection included: 1. A Dream of Red Hands 2. Crooken Sands 3. Dracula 4. Dracula's Guest 5. The Burial of the Rats 6. The Dualitists 7. The Invisible Giant 8. The Jewel of Seven Stars 9. The Judge's House 10. The Lair of the White Worm 11. The Man 12. Under the Sunset

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of more than 50 books--125 million copies in print--Clive Cussler is the current grandmaster of adventure literature. Dirk Pitt, the sea-loving protagonist of 22 of Cussler's novels, remains among the most popular and influential adventure series heroes of the past half-century. This first critical review of Cussler's work features an overview of Pitt and the supporting characters and other heroes, an examination of Cussler's themes and influences, a review of his most important adventures, such as Raise the Titanic! and Iceberg, and a look at adaptations of his work in other media. Cussler joins the pantheon of such as Rudyard Kipling, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Ian Fleming, and this overdue volume demonstrates that beneath Cussler's immense popularity lies a literary depth that well merits scholarly attention.
