Book Synopsis The Method of Layer Potentials for the Heat Equation in Time-Varying Domains by : John L. Lewis
Download or read book The Method of Layer Potentials for the Heat Equation in Time-Varying Domains written by John L. Lewis and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir consists of three papers in which we develop the method of layer potentials for the heat equation in time-varying domains. In Chapter I we show certain singular integral operators on [italic]L[superscript italic]p are bounded. in Chapter II, we develop a modification of the David buildup scheme to obtain [italic]L[superscript italic]p boundedness of the double layer heat potential on the boundary of our domains. In Chapter III, we use the results of the first two chapters to show the mutual absolute continuity of parabolic measure and a certain projective Lebesgue measure.
Book Synopsis Harmonic Analysis and Boundary Value Problems by : Luca Capogna
Download or read book Harmonic Analysis and Boundary Value Problems written by Luca Capogna and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents research and expository articles by the participants of the 25th Arkansas Spring Lecture Series on ``Recent Progress in the Study of Harmonic Measure from a Geometric and Analytic Point of View'' held at the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville). Papers in this volume provide clear and concise presentations of many problems that are at the forefront of harmonic analysis and partial differential equations. The following topics are featured: the solution of the Kato conjecture, the ``two bricks'' problem, new results on Cauchy integrals on non-smooth curves, the Neumann problem for sub-Laplacians, and a new general approach to both divergence and nondivergence second order parabolic equations based on growth theorems. The articles in this volume offer both students and researchers a comprehensive volume of current results in the field.
Book Synopsis Harmonic Analysis Techniques for Second Order Elliptic Boundary Value Problems by : Carlos E. Kenig
Download or read book Harmonic Analysis Techniques for Second Order Elliptic Boundary Value Problems written by Carlos E. Kenig and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, there has been a great deal of activity in the study of boundary value problems with minimal smoothness assumptions on the coefficients or on the boundary of the domain in question. These problems are of interest both because of their theoretical importance and the implications for applications, and they have turned out to have profound and fascinating connections with many areas of analysis. Techniques from harmonic analysis have proved to be extremely useful in these studies, both as concrete tools in establishing theorems and as models which suggest what kind of result might be true. Kenig describes these developments and connections for the study of classical boundary value problems on Lipschitz domains and for the corresponding problems for second order elliptic equations in divergence form. He also points out many interesting problems in this area which remain open.
Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations with Minimal Smoothness and Applications by : B. Dahlberg
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations with Minimal Smoothness and Applications written by B. Dahlberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been a great deal of activity in both the theoretical and applied aspects of partial differential equations, with emphasis on realistic engineering applications, which usually involve lack of smoothness. On March 21-25, 1990, the University of Chicago hosted a workshop that brought together approximately fortyfive experts in theoretical and applied aspects of these subjects. The workshop was a vehicle for summarizing the current status of research in these areas, and for defining new directions for future progress - this volume contains articles from participants of the workshop.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Diffusion Equations and Their Equilibrium States, 3 by : N.G Lloyd
Download or read book Nonlinear Diffusion Equations and Their Equilibrium States, 3 written by N.G Lloyd and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear diffusion equations have held a prominent place in the theory of partial differential equations, both for the challenging and deep math ematical questions posed by such equations and the important role they play in many areas of science and technology. Examples of current inter est are biological and chemical pattern formation, semiconductor design, environmental problems such as solute transport in groundwater flow, phase transitions and combustion theory. Central to the theory is the equation Ut = ~cp(U) + f(u). Here ~ denotes the n-dimensional Laplacian, cp and f are given functions and the solution is defined on some domain n x [0, T] in space-time. FUn damental questions concern the existence, uniqueness and regularity of so lutions, the existence of interfaces or free boundaries, the question as to whether or not the solution can be continued for all time, the asymptotic behavior, both in time and space, and the development of singularities, for instance when the solution ceases to exist after finite time, either through extinction or through blow up.
