This may well be due to the impact of globalization, which has not only opened up international trade, but also increasing international competition (Evans, Pucik, & Bjorkman, 2011; Hubbard, Rice, & Beamish, 2008; Thompson, Gamble, & Strickland III, 2004). In the rush of international trade and competition in much of borderless nations these days, Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), as a passive construct, has been proven to be beneficial for both employees and employers alike (Bergeron, Shipp, Rosen, & Furst, 2011; Mohanty & Rath, 2012; Nielsen, Bachrach, Sundstrom, & Halfhill, 2012; Noor, 2009; Yaghoubi, Mashinchi, & Hadi, 2010; Özturk, 2010). This study seeks to analyze OCB in trying to determine its most influential factor. By far, previous researches have indicated that factors of job satisfaction have the most influence towards OCB (Intaraprasong, Dityen, Krugkrunjit, & Subhadrabandhu, 2012; Mohammad, Habib, & Alias, 2011; Swaminathan & Jawahar, 2013). The main purpose of this research is to single out the most influential element of job satisfaction towards OCB that can be managed or controlled in some way by organizations. Data gathering is performed by means of questionnaire distributions in 4-star hotels in Jakarta. Data analysis and testing are computed in statistical software to note the level of correlations and influences of elements of job satisfaction towards OCB. However, strength of influence barely hits minimum, providing a base for future research on other factors that may be more influential towards OCB.

Book excerpt: Individual and group behavior has been studied over time by different scholars involving various loci (Ackfedt & Coote, 2005; Miles & Mangold, 2005; Yi & Gong, 2012). Studies revealed that besides employees' daily responsibilities, they engage in extra-role behaviors that help their employer organization. Consumer research literature revealed that these behaviors contribute greatly to customer satisfaction. This study employed a correlational approach to determine the interaction between organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB) and job satisfaction of the employees of Microtel Inn and Suites Philippines. Customer satisfaction was measured as an independent variable and was interpreted based on the results. Two sets of questionnaires were distributed among employees and customers. The employee questionnaire focused on OCB and job satisfaction while the customer questionnaire focused on customer satisfaction. Focus group discussion was employed to further validate the results of the study. Thus, this paper shows the other perspectives of OCB in the workplace, contrary to the findings of other researches which focused on the positive effects of OCB.

Book excerpt: The purpose of study is to explore the relationship between Job Satisfaction and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among employees working in banking sector of Pakistan. 350 managerial level employees from banking sector have contributed in this study by filling the questionnaire. The survey was conducted to test the hypothesized relationship between job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior of the banking employees. The 5-point Likert-scale research instrument for job satisfaction and its aspects was developed, based on the work of Herzberg two factor theory. Dimensions of OCB were developed based on the work of Parsons and Shrills (1951). Thus, in this research, OCB is defined as being composed of 4 main dimensions, namely, 1) Interpersonal Helping; 2) Individual Initiative; 3) Personal Industry; and 4) Loyal Boosterism. The results reveal significant information that can help organizations to increase job satisfaction by improving the organizational citizenship behavior.

Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, Riphah International University Islamabad (Riphah School of Leadership), course: MS (Management Sciences), language: English, abstract: In order to meet the overpowering job requirements and meeting career related opportunities a large chunk of employees of different organizations be likely to enroll in higher education degree programs. On contrary, in order to meet the educational expenses and unforeseen nature of employment conditions a large number of students seek paid work. Fulfillment of this dual role demand has created tension between both roles i.e. student and employee which ultimately causes work-study conflict. This study examines the impact of work-study conflict on Job Satisfaction, Presenteeism, Burnout and Turnover Intentions with Moderating Role of Supervisor Support among the employees who are working in different organizations and studying in universities. The sample consists of 350 working students of universities employed in different organizations of Pakistan out of which 281 questionnaires were received in a correct form making the response rate of 80.2%. The results of this study depicted that work-study conflict has significant negative relationship with supervisor support and significant positive relationship with presenteeism, burnout and turnover intentions whereas insignificant relationship with job satisfaction. Supervisor support has significant positive relationship with the job satisfaction and has significant negative relationship with the presenteeism, burnout and turnover intentions. Results also show that there is moderation of supervisor support between the relationship of work-study conflict (WSC) and presenteeism and also between the relationship of WSC and burnout. But there is no moderation between the relationship of work-study conflict (WSC), job satisfaction and turnover intentions. Implications and future d

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civility is an important research topic in today's work environment, especially given concerns about retaining employees in the increasingly mobile labor market (Pearson & Porath, 2005). Although much of the research on civil work behaviors focuses on the negative impact of incivility, ongoing research at the Veterans Administration (VA) utilizes a strengths-based approach that identifies ways to increase civility rather than to decrease incivility (Osatuke, Moore, Ward, Dyrenforth, & Belton, 2009). VA's civility research had found that workplace civility predicts organizational performance (Moore, Osatuke, & Howe, 2008), and that it exerts a positive influence on patient satisfaction (Osatuke et al., 2009) and employee job satisfaction (Moore, et al. 2008). While job satisfaction is important to consider, previous research suggests that employee intention to quit is the best leading indicator of actual employee turnover (Griffeth, Hom, & Gaertner, 2000), an important cost-related outcome for organizations. The current study examined the relationship between civility, job satisfaction, and intentions to quit using longitudinal techniques which accounted for the contextual effects of workgroups nested within facilities. All previous multi-level or contextual conceptualizations of incivility have involved cross-sectional data. The only study to examine civility, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions longitudinally was Moore et al. (2008), and those authors did not use intention to quit in their analysis, nor did they adjust their models for the multilevel nature of the data. Our approach also extended current research methodologically through consideration of the nested structure of the data and accounting for dependencies which could have led to misleadingly small standard error estimates and biased decision making regarding the significance of path coefficients. The study used archival de-identified data from 160 Veterans Health Administration (VHA) facilities (N ~ 85,000 employees employees, and 5,883 workgroups per year) from 2009-2011. The data had workgroup and facility identifiers, permitting the contextual analyses. The primary aim of the study was to determine the causal impact of civility on job satisfaction and intentions to quit. Given the nested structure of the data, I was also interested in using contextual modeling techniques to account for the clustering of workgroups within facilities. The modeling process resulted in two panel models, one cross-lagged and the other a non-recursive simultaneous influence model where at Times 2 and 3 there were reciprocal effects present. The purpose of the cross-lagged models was to examine the influence of the three variables on one another over a one year lag, whereas the simultaneous influence model was meant to test the possibility that reciprocal contemporary influences coupled with stability paths between the same measures from time i to time i + 1 could account for the observed covariance structure. Findings suggested that within a given year, civility and job satisfaction may be more likely to influence each other equally; but from one year to the next, civility is a stronger driver of job satisfaction than vice versa. With respect to intentions to quit, both models supported the notion that civility is a stronger driver of intentions to quit than the converse.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars have baptized for investigation relating to the antecedents and sways of workplace incivility and means to condense it. To address this concern, this study proposed a theoretical framework that explains the linkages of workplace incivility with Job satisfaction. We theorized that incivility decreases employees' motivation at work, and increase emotional exhaustion. It will further lead to restricted OCB. These factors, in response, confine employees' job satisfaction. We further hypothesize that age, and gender complements the effect of incivility on job satisfaction. Hence, OCB, exhaustion, and motivation mediate, whereas age and gender moderate incivility job satisfaction nexus. We classified incivility into behavioral, experienced, and witnessed, Motivation was also classified into intrinsic and extrinsic. These relationships were theorized in a singular model to portray the overall impact of the variables occurring at once. Empirical validity was established through a survey conducted by means on a close-ended questionnaire from 272 employees working in Karachi. Results suggested that the effect of experienced incivility on job satisfaction was found to be insignificant however, there was a negative mediatory role of emotional exhaustion, whereas, OCB, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation had no mediatory effect. With regards to instigated incivility, it doesn't seem to have any effect on job satisfaction, however, emotional exhaustion and intrinsic motivation play a negative mediatory role. Witnessed incivility directly affect JS as its coefficient was negative and significant, however, no mediatory role was found. Lastly, Exhaustion has a negative effect on JS, whereas, motivations have a positive significant effect. The coefficient of OCB remained insignificant throughout. Hence, experiencing incivility at the workplace comes with a higher probability of being emotionally exhausted and thus leading to job dissatisfaction however intrinsic motivation can be a means of plummeting incivility.
