At the continental level one of the key institutions driving the new Africa Agenda, the African Union, adopted in July 2004, 'The AU Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa'. [...] Among others, the declaration commits member states to accelerating the implementation of specific social, economic and legal measures to deal with HIV/AIDs among women; expanding and promoting the principle of gender parity in the AU Commission and other organs of the AU; actively promoting the implementation of legislation 1 Taylor, I, The New Partnership For African Development and the Global P.
