Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been said that "hypnosis is a collection of techniques in need of a unifying theory." (James A. Hall, Hypnosis: A Jungian Perspective). While the varied substrates of these techniques preclude the formation of any one theory of hypnosis, this volume presents a "state-of-the-science" view of existing theories of hypnosis. Written by eminent scholars and researchers, this uniquely authoritative resource also provides a wealth of information about the history of hypnosis, clinical and research perspectives on hypnosis, and the strengths and weaknesses of empirical methods used to address crucial theoretical questions. The streamlined organization of the volume facilitates the reader's ability to contrast and compare research findings and concepts across theories. In the introductory chapters, the editors describe hypnosis paradigms and schools of thought, including major points of convergence and divergence, as well as a broad vista of different perspectives on the history of hypnosis. The theoretical chapters that follow present definitive statements by an international array of eminent scholars who are at the forefront of conceptual advances in the realms of clinical and experimental hypnosis. Their contributions, written in lively first-person narratives, explore current thinking about hypnosis and represent important clinical and research traditions that extend beyond the territory of hypnosis to mainstream psychology. Providing a thorough discussion of hypnotic phenomena, the book tackles tough questions such as whether hypnosis evokes an altered state of consciousness; whether hypnotic behavior is involuntary; whether hypnotizability is stable, trait-like, and modifiable; and whether hypnotic and non-hypnotic behavior can be distinguished in meaningful ways. The diversity of viewpoints, including competitive ones, illuminates the debates which have expanded the frontiers of knowledge about hypnosis. In the concluding section, the editors compare and contrast these theories, discuss pertinent research issues, and lay out an agenda for future research. Given its stellar list of contributors and the unique niche it occupies as the first authoritative survey of its kind, THEORIES OF HYPNOSIS is of value to anyone interested in the topic. The editors' ten years of experience teaching hypnosis to psychology and medical students has resulted in a book with enormous appeal to students and instructors, as well as clinicians and researchers. A wide variety of professionals--academics, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, dentists--will find it an authoritative introduction and invaluable reference to this still-growing, ever-fascinating field.

Book excerpt: This book is aimed at helping both newly trained and experienced mental health professionals become comfortable and adept in using hypnosis in their clinical practice. Despite dramatic evidence of the effectiveness of hypnosis and its growing acceptance, only a small percentage of psychotherapists employ their hypnotherapy training in their practices. This under-use of hypnosis is due to exaggerated misconceptions about its power and the resultant performance anxiety therapists experience after their training. This text is designed to address therapist performance anxiety surrounding the use of hypnosis by exploring the myths surrounding its power and therapeutic potential. The integration of a straightforward systematic hypnotic approach into therapeutic practice has value both in assessment and treatment. Using clinical anecdotes and personal experience, the authors of Hypnosis in Clinical Practice explain induction style and trance work in a way that is fundamental and highly accessible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harold Stewart, a distinguished psychoanalyst of more than 30 years' experience, began his medical career as a general practitioner. He was drawn first towards hypnotherapy, then to psychoanalysis, as a more sensitive, productive and far-reaching method of exploring patients' problems. In this book Stewart draws deeply on his own clinical experience to focus on changes in the patient's experience of inner space, and to record the growth of his own understanding of the patient's experience and how this can change. Beginning with a vivid account of the role of collusion in the myth of Jocasta and Oedipus, he goes on to a theoretical discussion of thinking, dreams, inner space and the hypnotic state, in the context of extensive clinical experience. The second part of the book centres on practical clinical issues and problems of technique, tackling in particular the role of transference interpretations, other agents of change, and the problems encountered in benign and malignant types of regression. The wealth of clinical material and the author's informality and openness in presenting his experiences of working with very disturbed patients will be of immense practical value to other practitioners. Psychic Experience and Problems of Technique will help psychoanalysts and psychotherapists to understand the nature of clinical problems which are often encountered but seldom acknowledged.

These seduction poems give you the ability to hypnotize women and give them post-hypnotic suggestions to adore and want you - simply by reading them some mildly erotic poems. The NLP for PUA Foreword explains the hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) language patterns used to capture and lead a woman's imagination (and body) into bed. Here are some of the many positive comments I have received from men and women:"Women accept them because of their unobtrusive and romantic nature, without realizing the deep hidden commands that are taking place ..." (Richard G. Butler PhD DD)"Thanks phil they really do work astonishing well. esp when the 7 hypsosis secrets are applied" (Anon) "OMG!!!! This is amazing! Even this sample worked like magic!" (Bob) "wow... These rocked my life! Thanks!" (Anon) "My wife loves the poems and when I put her into a trance and read them to her I get Great results." (Bill) "I read your poem to one woman who I haven't touched in years....She is literally begging me now since getting back in touch with me (bumped into each other at work and was still horny for me anyway,) but now even more so, she is practically dripping thru the phone as I read poems to her....(she thinks I write them). She said she let her female friend listen and her friend said it made her panties wet (to stop it!!)." (Anon) "I'll be your spokes person!! Or that guy on the freeway with a sign saying "Phil is the MAN!" " Perrin "The only comment I have for you Phil is....when is the next book going to be available?....my girl told me to give you her opinion...so here it is... Gotta tell ya though, I read Sublimity to several females to see if it phased them (scientific study of course) and WOW!!! the response was very positive... (Anon) "I am a woman, and I used them with a man. I am very pleased with the results. I read several of them to him as I lay with my head in his lap.. reading softly and slowly, and gazing into his eyes when ever I could without losing my place. Watching his face go from 'but I wanted to watch TV', to interest and then tenderness was awesome! Thanks Phil for you poems, you newsletters, and you book!" (Jen)

Book excerpt: For a relationship to be fulfilling and lasting, the last chapter should be of paramount importance. When you are yourself and happy with whom you are, you gain a quiet self-confidence that people notice. Truth-be-told, it doesn't happen overnight, but over time you're more likely to attract those, who actually like YOU for who YOU are and for what YOU stand for. Your paths will cross, for instance, at work, at a party or social event, at a sporting event, or while bumping into one another on the street. In fact, it is these "chemicals" that occur in relationships that show others who YOU really are. You can learn who you are. You can like who you are and the signals you transmit to others, who are confident and self-assured. You can be one of those people, who don't depend on others to make him/her whole. It's okay to think about getting married, but don't make it your ultimate goal. In other words, don't allow it to control you. And, even if you have parenting instincts, when you get in a relationship, don't make "having children" the only thing on your mind. Take things at a reasonable pace. For example, get to know a possible love interest. Why? Well, because it's so important to a healthy and happy relationship. For instance, there may be things about you that he/she doesn't like - and that's okay. Truthfully, no two people are the same, and everyone has a right to be different. You need to determine the magnitude of the differences, and whether those differences signal a bleak future for you and the other person. When you go out with someone, even as just friends, learn his/her strengths and weaknesses, because sometimes the weakness aren't enough to prevent you from being a couple. In other words, you may be scared away due to a partner's weaknesses, but find that their strengths outweigh the weaknesses. You see, the world isn't a perfect place and you should never look for perfection. When I first started dating my current partner, I remember thinking it was really funny that he couldn't bear the sight of meat. He was a strong vegetarian, but, thankfully, he didn't mind me eating meat. So, as long as your new partner isn't trying to change who you are - then it shouldn't matter about who they are. At the time. I worried constantly about cooking two separate meals for us. Truth-be-told, my partner wasn't obsessed with being a vegetarian. It was just a belief. But. I was determined not to ask him to change, because I knew he would never ask me to change. It's okay to compromise, but it's not okay to compromise your beliefs or who you are. If you must change who you are, the relationship will never survive.

Book excerpt: Although research and practice in hypnosis has seen unprecedented expansion, there has been a definite lack of inclusive and comprehensive surveys to aid the student and researcher. This collection of original chapters written by leading experimental investigators is the first work to offer a current state-of-the-art in hypnosis research. A compendium of the historical background, theories, issues, and trends in hypnosis, this volume represents all major experimental viewpoints while providing a virtual ""who's who"" in the field of hypnosis. The first two chapters (written by the editors) establish the current theoretical base of the field and review the historical background. Seventeen contributions focus directly on key aspects of present day hypnosis research. These contributions are organized as surveys of broad topic areas, descriptions in depth of individual investigator's programmatic lines of research, and reports on research within specific areas, especially those representing new viewpoints and holding promise for programmatic development. A final chapter develops questions for future research.Offering an inclusive survey of the field from its historical inceptions to its current and predictive state, this book presents many new ideas while updating established positions in research and theory. The vital areas covered in connection with hypnosis include: psychophysiology, creativity, dreams, imagination, suggestibility, simulator controls, cognitive activity, and ego-psychological theory. In addition there are chapters on hypnosis as a research method, the measurement of altered states of consciousness, and hypnotic programming techniques in psychological experiments. Hypnosis: Research Developments and Perspectives is written for researchers in hypnosis and clinical practitioners in medicine and psychology. The book will serve as a basic text in all courses in hypnosis at the graduate level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practice of yoga, hypnosis, and the use of psychedelic drugs to alter psychological and physiological states is not unknown to the study of psychology. They have been called "soft" studies and labeled unimportant. This is mostly because they are difficult to study and understand, often focusing on unobservable internal states such as altered states of consciousness, Samadhi, or hypnotic states. This book, in its approach to thinking about this topic and method for analysis, focuses only on phenomena that can be observed, such as behavioral changes. By centering on only those aspects of the psychological and physiological effects of yoga, hypnosis, and psychedelic drugs which can be measured and analyzed using this new method, Barber distinguishes this book from others in the field. He asks what overt behaviors and verbal reports are clearly observable when psychedelic drugs are taken, yoga is practiced, or hypnotic-induction procedures are administered. Instead of treating the phenomena traditionally associated with psychedelic drugs, yoga, or hypnosis as undifferentiated conglomerates, an attempt will be made to set apart and treat separately each of the many phenomena associated with each of these areas of inquiry. This book does not set out to simply demonstrate the importance of psychedelics, yoga, and hypnosis, or to present substantive material pertaining to these topics. It also treats each topic as continuous with other known psychological phenomena and as an important piece to the puzzle of social psychology. It differs from most previous treatises in that it does not assume that psychedelics, yoga, and hypnosis can bring out unused mental or physical capacities in man, heighten awareness or give rise to enhanced creativity, or produce altered states of consciousness, suspension of conventional reality-orientation, changes in body-image, or changes in perception.
