Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hugely entertaining, poignant, and charming novel about what happens after happily ever after—from the New York Timesbestselling author of How to Walk Away and Things You Save in a Fire “Everyone Is Beautiful is for every woman who has ever struggled to find, hold on to, and nurture authenticity in the midst of that wild, messy, wonderful thing called motherhood.”—Brené Brown Lanie Coates’s life is spinning out of control. She’s piled everything she owns into a U-Haul and driven with her husband, Peter, and their three little boys from their cozy Texas home to a multiflight walkup in Boston. She’s left behind family and friends—all so her husband can realize his dream of becoming a professional musician. But somewhere in the eye of her personal hurricane, it hits Lanie that she once had dreams too . . . if only she could remember what they were. These days, Lanie always seems to prioritize herself last—and when another mom accidentally assumes she’s pregnant, it’s the final straw. Fifteen years, three babies, and more pounds than she’s willing to count since the day she said “I do,” Lanie longs desperately to feel like her old self again. It’s time to rise up, fish her moxie out of the diaper pail, and find the woman she was before motherhood consumed her entire existence. Lanie sets change in motion—joining a gym, signing up for photography classes, and finding a new best friend. But she also creates waves that come to threaten her whole life. Balancing motherhood and me-time, marriage and independence, and supporting loved ones while also realizing her own dreams, Lanie must figure out once and for all how to find herself without losing everything else in the process.

Book excerpt: It is not a biography, but it talks about me as well... and about you. It is not a manual, but you will learn the art of receiving guests even when your house isn’t clean and you will learn about the tricks to make your family budget work out. It is not a book of recipes and cleaning tricks, but you will find some advice and suggestions to make the domestic life a bit easier and not go insane trying to pair your socks. It is not a book, simply because I am not a writer. "Between the many types of housewives, we can find Maggy, the compulsive housewife, Dorothy, the “miss perfect” housewife, or Amy the hesitant housewife... we then have Molly, the desperate housewife: she really didn’t want to be a housewife. She hates dust. She hates it just as much as she would hate her husband’s lover. She hates the plants on the balcony that won’t survive until the end of the month, like her wallet. We then have the Ideal Housewife, always fighting against time, house cleaning, unpaired socks and she loves her dusty house, her crazy, noisy family and yes... she also loves chaos and mess, signs of a happy home.

Book Synopsis The Business of Being a Housewife by : Jean Prescott Adams
Download or read book The Business of Being a Housewife written by Jean Prescott Adams and published by anboco. This book was released on 2016-09-25 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As meat is one of the most important items of American diet, its price is a matter of moment to every housewife. Comparisons between the cost of live animals and the price per pound of meat sometimes lead to the conclusion that the existing margin is too wide and that possibly the profits of the middleman are too large. After fair analysis, the housewife realizes that a live animal is not all meat and, furthermore, that the meat carcass is not all steaks and rib roasts. A comparison, therefore, between the live cost of meat animals per pound and the cost per pound of a tenderloin is misleading, if it results in any conclusions relative to margins. Then we must reckon with the wide difference in grades of meat. We cannot correctly estimate the cost of a steak cut from a prime beef by that of a steak from a grass-fed cow. There are several grades of meat, depending upon the nature and feeding, each wholesome and nutritious, but some demanding more special cooking than others. About fifty-five per cent of a steer is meat; the remainder includes the hide and various other by-products, which, except the hide, are not worth in their primary state anywhere near as much per pound as they cost alive. The fifty-five per cent of the animal which is meat must, therefore, carry the greater portion of the original cost. That is why a steer carcass might be sold by the packer for twenty cents a pound and still fail to pay a profit, even though the live animal cost the packer only twelve cents a pound. The casual observer, noting a difference of eight cents a pound between the live animal and the carcass, might say a sixty-six per cent increase in price is unduly large; but a little deeper study develops that the return from the carcass in this instance would fail to equal the amount paid for the live steer. When a retailer buys a carcass, he purchases neck meat as well as loins; chucks as well as rounds.
Book Synopsis The Good Wife's Guide (Le Ménagier de Paris) by :
Download or read book The Good Wife's Guide (Le Ménagier de Paris) written by and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-15 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the closing years of the fourteenth century, an anonymous French writer compiled a book addressed to a fifteen-year-old bride, narrated in the voice of her husband, a wealthy, aging Parisian. The book was designed to teach this young wife the moral attributes, duties, and conduct befitting a woman of her station in society, in the almost certain event of her widowhood and subsequent remarriage. The work also provides a rich assembly of practical materials for the wife's use and for her household, including treatises on gardening and shopping, tips on choosing servants, directions on the medical care of horses and the training of hawks, plus menus for elaborate feasts, and more than 380 recipes. The Good Wife's Guide is the first complete modern English translation of this important medieval text also known as Le Ménagier de Paris (the Parisian household book), a work long recognized for its unique insights into the domestic life of the bourgeoisie during the later Middle Ages. The Good Wife's Guide, expertly rendered into modern English by Gina L. Greco and Christine M. Rose, is accompanied by an informative critical introduction setting the work in its proper medieval context as a conduct manual. This edition presents the book in its entirety, as it must have existed for its earliest readers. The Guide is now a treasure for the classroom, appealing to anyone studying medieval literature or history or considering the complex lives of medieval women. It illuminates the milieu and composition process of medieval authors and will in turn fascinate cooking or horticulture enthusiasts. The work illustrates how a (perhaps fictional) Parisian householder of the late fourteenth century might well have trained his wife so that her behavior could reflect honorably on him and enhance his reputation.
