Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present treatise reports on theoretical investigations and test-stand measurements which were carried out in the BMW Flugmotoren GMbH in developing the hollow blade for exhaust gas turbines. As an introduction the temperature variation and the stress on a turbine blade for a gas temperature of 900 degrees and circumferential velocities of 600 meters per second are discussed. The assumptions onthe heat transfer coefficients at the blade profile are supported by tests on an electrically heated blade model. The temperature distribution in the cross section of a blade Is thoroughly investigated and the temperature field determined for a special case. A method for calculation of the thermal stresses in turbine blades for a given temperature distribution is indicated. The effect of the heat radiation on the blade temperature also is dealt with. Test-stand experiments on turbine blades are evaluated, particularly with respect to temperature distribution in the cross section; maximum and minimum temperature in the cross section are ascertained. Finally, the application of the hollow blade for a stationary gas turbine is investigated. Starting from a setup for 550 C gas temperature the improvement of the thermal efficiency and the fuel consumption are considered as well as the increase of the useful power by use of high temperatures. The power required for blade cooling is taken into account.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing with Creo Parametric 7.0 provides the high school student, college student, or practicing engineer with a basic introduction to engineering design while learning the 3D modeling Computer-Aided Design software called Creo Parametric from PTC. The topics are presented in tutorial format with exercises at the end of each chapter to reinforce the concepts covered. It is richly illustrated with computer screen shots throughout. Above all, this text is designed to help you expand your creative talents and communicate your ideas through the graphics language. Because it is easier to learn new information if you have a reason for learning it, this textbook discusses design intent while you are learning Creo Parametric. At the same time, it shows how knowledge covered in basic engineering courses such as statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and design of mechanical components can be applied to design. You do not need an engineering degree nor be working toward a degree in engineering to use this textbook. Although FEA (Finite Element Analysis) is used in this textbook, its theory is not covered. The first two chapters of this book describe the design process. The meat of this text, learning the basic Creo Parametric software, is found in Chapters three through six. Chapters seven, eight, and 12 deal with dimensioning and tolerancing an engineering part. Chapters nine and ten deal with assemblies and assembly drawings. Chapter 11 deals with family tables used when similar parts are to be designed or used. Chapter 13 is an introduction to Creo Simulate and FEA.

These publications reflect the author's interest in the historical role that knives have played and he has documented their use during the wars of the 20th Century. This volume introduces the rare, unique and experimental knives of W.D. Randall, many either made or designed by him. The initial section explores knives from the Randall Museum, where over 50 images reflect the commitment to design innovation, which was and is still today, a hallmark of Randall Made Knives. The second section contains knives from a private collection, which was uncovered by the author. Interestingly enough, the knives in this grouping have roots in some of the "museum" examples and various designs can be found in Randall early "experiments" displayed in the museum cases

It's the way of the world . . . sometimes ways of life are improved, sometimes they are not. But the progression of change is huge and - usually - unstoppable. In this story, the Ossian way of life is fading and the Dachen way is taking its place and Aren is comfortable with that. Thrown into a prison mine they plan their escape - only to be overtaken by events when they're rescued, and promptly find themselves in the middle of an ambush. By the time they've escaped, they're unavoidably linked to Garric - their unwelcome saviour - and his quest to overturn to Dachen way of life. If they leave Garric now, they'll be arrested or killed by their pursuers. If they turn him in, Garric will kill them. If they stay with him, they'll be abetting a murderous quest they don't believe in. There are no good options - but Aren will still have to choose a path . . .
