Book Synopsis Silicides: Fundamentals & Applications by : Francois D'heurle
Download or read book Silicides: Fundamentals & Applications written by Francois D'heurle and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-12-18 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicides were introduced into the technology of electronic devices some thirty years ago; since then, they have been continuously used to form both ohmic and rectifying contacts to silicon. Silicides are also important for other applications (thermoelectric devices and structural applications, such as jet engines), but it is not easy to find an updated reference containing both their basic properties, either chemical or physical, and the latest applications. The 16th Course of the International School of Solid State Physics, held in Erice (Italy) in the late spring of 1999, was intended to break artificial barriers between disciplines, and to gather people concerned with the properties and applications of silicides, regardless of the formal fields to which they belong, or of the practical goals they pursue. This book is therefore concerned with theory as well as applications, metallurgy as well as physics, and materials science as well as microelectronics.

Book Synopsis High Temperature Structural Silicides by : Asuri K. Vasudevan
Download or read book High Temperature Structural Silicides written by Asuri K. Vasudevan and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1992 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this volume is two-fold. Firstly, to give a current overview on silicide-based structural materials and identify important and promising future research directions. Secondly, it is intended to serve as a catalyst for the expansion of research and development activities in this new field, promoting rapid technology transfer to private industry. Elevated temperature structural materials represent a key enabling technology for many aspects of advanced aerospace, automotive, energy and environmental systems. High temperature structural silicides constitute an important new class of such materials. Central aspects for the development of structural silicides are improvements in both high and low temperature mechanical properties, with retention of oxidation resistance. Recent composite and alloying approaches have demonstrated significant success in addressing these issues. The optimum development of structural silicides requires the combined efforts of both ceramists and metallurgists owing to their mixed metallic - covalent - ionic atomic bonding state. The contents of this volume will be of interest to both the metallurgical and ceramics communities.
