Book excerpt: How did the French Resistance and Allied forces work together to liberate southern France from the Germans during World War II? Arthur Funk gives the first detailed account of the complex British, French, and American operations in 1944, an account that uses a wealth of original source material on both sides of the Atlantic to evaluate the role of the French Resistance and to assess the problems in coordinating Allied military activities. The study should be of great interest to historians, history buffs, and colleges and universities that wish to fill this gap in the historiography of World War II. The first half of the book deals with preparations for the Allied landings in August 1944, telling about agents first in contact with the French Resistance and about the work of Allied missions, French groups, and British officers and teams directed from London and Algiers. The second half of the book covers the collaboration of French Forces of the Interior with the U.S. Seventh Army in the liberation of Marseilles, Lyon, and other cities in southeastern France. Filled with interesting detail about major figures in the war and little-known agents and officers, the book is unique in weaving together recently declassified OSS sources in Washington with British and French archival information that is rarely noted. Maps and photographs are included in the book, and a useful bibliography is also provided.

Book excerpt: Winner of the Children's Choice Book Awards' Teen Choice Debut Author Award Ten years ago, Braden was given a sign, a promise that his family wouldn't fall apart the way he feared. But Braden got it wrong: his older brother, Trey, has been estranged from the family for almost as long, and his father, the only parent Braden has ever known, has been accused of murder. The arrest of Braden's father, a well-known Christian radio host has sparked national media attention. His fate lies in his son's hands; Braden is the key witness in his father's upcoming trial. Braden has always measured himself through baseball. He is the star pitcher in his small town of Ornette, and his ninety-four mile per hour pitch already has minor league scouts buzzing in his junior year. Now the rules of the sport that has always been Braden's saving grace are blurred in ways he never realized, and the prospect of playing against Alex Reyes, the nephew of the police officer his father is accused of killing, is haunting his every pitch. Braden faces an impossible choice, one that will define him for the rest of his life, in this brutally honest debut novel about family, faith, and the ultimate test of conviction.

Book excerpt: A fast-paced psychological thriller that explores the explosive consequences of child abuse. On New Year's Eve, 2004, a woman awakens from a coma. She has been unconscious for 12 years since being viciously attacked by a lake. Nobody knows who or why she was assaulted but as the plot unravels it transpires the events of that night are linked to things that happened before the fall of the Berlin Wall. In East Germany in the spring of 1989, 14-year-old Felix Waltz had escaped from a life of abuse at the notorious Stasi youth prison, Torgau. He found a safe haven and went into hiding, leaving a tormented past behind. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification, Felix had the chance to live a normal life with his uncle and aunt - until one of Torgau’s abusive wardens turned up, threatening his new-found security and happiness. Felix turned vigilante to confront his past, resorting to murder, and his crimes remain hidden for 12 years. In 2005, Hanne Drais, a criminal psychologist working within a Berlin police team, is one of those involved in reopening the case of Felix’s victims. Hanne discovers the truth behind the lies and finds her destiny with Felix is interwoven with the past, their paths indelibly linked and fated again to collide. The law of the land versus the law of revenge? The answer is often subjective and unclear, but it is never an easy choice....

Vitriolic exchanges between the leaders of Iran and Israel are a disturbingly common feature of the news cycle. But the real roots of their enmity mystify Washington policymakers, leaving no promising pathways to stability. In Treacherous Alliance, U.S. foreign policy expert Trita Parsi untangles to complex and often duplicitous relationship among Israel, Iran, and the United States from 1948 to the present. In the process, he reveals shocking details of unsavory political maneuverings that have undermined Middle Eastern peace and disrupted U.S. foreign policy initiatives in the region. Parsi draws on his unique access to senior American, Iranian, and Israeli decision makers to present behind-the-scenes revelations that will surprise even the most knowledgeable readers: Iran’s prime minister asks Israel to assassinate Khomeini; Israel reaches out to Saddam Hussein after the Gulf War; the United States foils Iran’s plan to withdraw support from Hamas and Hezbollah; and more. Treacherous Alliance not only revises our understanding of the recent past, it also spells out a course for the future. Book excerpt: Central Idea of the "Kayan Kollyn" Adventure Saga Book. 'Kayan Kollyn' is a fictional adventure and mystical saga story set up in the Atouls World. 'Ellmott' is the almighty power, which works in conjunction with various forms of 'Craffartt.' Craffartt is the ancient craft of the atouls world, in which mysterious powers work. Much of the ellmott mystery is extinct today, but efforts are being made on this land to unravel it. And thousands of miles long- the 'Great Atoulian Mountain Ranges' is the mysterious abode of this Ellmott. "Many people of the 'Atouls Land' adore and bow down the three basic forms of this nature and existence, namely, the Element, the Essence, and the E'light* (pain-n-pleasure) give them the pure thought and wisdom. The Elements are contained within the 'Attor Spiral,' the Essence is contained within the 'Meddo Spiral,' while the E'light is contained within the 'Solloh Spiral,' which were the ancient science, art, and 'Craft' of the land of atouls, THIS ART IS CALLED 'CRAFFARTT*' in atouls world. Empo and Espak are the subtle Ellmott-Elements in 'Atouls World,' "in which Empo is the experience of the mind and the body exists and moves in Espak," This is the ancient belief of Atoulian. When the mind rises above the realm of Empo, it pervades the whole spectrum of a Great Time. When the body's consciousness transcends the boundaries of the finite body, the infinite Ellmott becomes its marvelous abode. But, "how does such merit come about?" Perhaps, a person can touch this land's hidden and mysterious dimensions; however, the answers to the mystery are also unknown. So, Let's dive into this story. The Story: A Seed that Becomes a Huge Tree There are three main geographical areas in the Atouls world; the 'States of Atouls,' 'Nymos town,' and 'Kingdom of the Atouls.' Each region has its uniqueness, while access to the Kingdom, in particular, is not easy. Kayan is a fourteen-year-old boy, Kayan's life is connected to these three geographical areas of the 'Atouls World,' where Kayan learns the ancient 'Atoulian' Esoteric Craft,' which the people of Nymos town call Craffartt*. And, Kollyn, who is a fourteen-year-old girl, is the girl of a nomadic herdsman of the Atoulians Mountains. Special classes of 'Atouls World' reveal the art and science of incorporating the mysterious powers of Existence and the 'Nature' in their various crafts (Craffartts). It was the ancient and extinct heritage of the 'Atouls World.' Accepting whatever is contained within this life is our first gratitude towards life. The ability to think and imagine is one of life's best gifts; If these abilities are used to the fullest, they can do good to oneself and others. And while contemplating, when anyone's thought develops, it first takes the form of a 'Story' because the mind has a good relationship with the story; this story deserves to be told in a language that the world can understand. And, any story becomes exciting and successful only when its 'Subject' can touch by every mind, so it is essential to contemplate the subject of the story constantly; The Effort of the Storytelling has a specific 'Purpose.' Here, I find only three words after a long thought process: fearlessness, freedom, and peace, But this path goes through a lot of conflict and pain; the absolute joy of life is in the journey because, in it, this vast existence is always ready to reveal its Secrets. The Theme: Depth of Time Many Characters walk on the ground; there are a lot of Characters that slide on the ground, hardly anyone floats, and very few are able to fly in the sky of Freedom and Fearlessness. And these characters are associated with all three dimensions of Time, and often a rare character touches even the fourth dimension of Time and Place. This story paints a picture of 'Ancient Times,' At the same Time keeps pace with the 'Present' and takes a flight into the 'Future;' Because Time has always been a witness to the eternal order of life and death. Effect of these Adventure Sagas called 'Kayan Kollyn.' The probability and ability were, are, and will be endless at any time stage; this journey goes through sorrow, pain, anguish, joy, pleasure, and bliss, which are a natural process for parity and purity. However, the new generation is always ready to embrace change. Today's new generation wants to understand the past of various civilizations and wants to enjoy the modern conveniences of the present. With this, they want to give the best direction to their future. This book, this long story divided into parts, I hope it will communicate a new feeling, a new imagination to people of all religions and races once they read and watch; This may inspire them to find answers to their unanswered questions. “KNOWLEDGE-word has a wide and comprehensive meaning in ancient D’Hoptik-Language of Atouls World, Including ‘i am (to be),’ thought, imagination, experience, intuition, dream, sleep, and union with ellmott-power,” master Hyubos said. Attempt as an Author "When the 'living story' descends into the utmost excellence, the mystery opens," It attempts to solve many internal and external unresolved questions of childhood and youth. "I invite you to join this journey wholeheartedly, and I am grateful to you." - V VN Mangukiya.

Book excerpt: Spies and Saboteurs is the story of the origins of the Anglo-American 'Special Relationship' in human intelligence collection and special operations, which took place amidst the global conflagration that was the Second World War. It is the story of William 'Wild Bill' Donovan - the father of America's Central Intelligence Agency - and of his relationship with legendary British spymasters like William Stephenson, code named 'Intrepid', Stewart Menzies ('C'), chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, Admiral John Godfrey, the powerful and enigmatic director of Naval Intelligence, and General Colin Gubbins, Britain's master saboteur. Relying almost exclusively upon recently declassified OSS and British intelligence documents and survivor interviews, it examines the transatlantic association in espionage and sabotage, guerrilla warfare and disinformation. It explores the evolution of covert relations from a 'tutorial' arrangement with the U.S. as pupil, to an unequal then full partnership, and ultimately to competition and rivalry in the prosecution of the clandestine war.
