Book Synopsis QUANTUM MECHANICS by : MAHESH C. JAIN
Download or read book QUANTUM MECHANICS written by MAHESH C. JAIN and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2007-08-14 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is written as a basic introduction to Quantum Mechanics for use by the undergraduate students in physics, who are exposed to this subject for the first time. Providing a gentle introduction to the subject, it fills the gap between the available books which provide comprehensive coverage appropriate for postgraduate courses and the ones on Modern Physics which give a rather incomplete treatment of the subject leaving out many conceptual and mathematical details. The author sets out with Planck’s quantum hypothesis and takes the student along through the new concepts and ideas, providing an easy-to-understand description of core quantum concepts and basic mathematical structures. The fundamental principles and the mathe-matical formalism introduced, are amply illustrated through a number of solved examples. Chapter-end exercises and review questions, generally designed as per the examination pattern, serve to reinforce the material learnt. Chapter-end summaries capture the key points discussed in the text. Beside the students of physics, the book can also be used by students of chemistry and first-year students of all branches of engineering for gaining a basic understanding of quantum mechanics, otherwise considered a difficult subject.

Download or read book The Public Health Effects of Food Deserts written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-07-02 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, people living in low-income neighborhoods frequently do not have access to affordable healthy food venues, such as supermarkets. Instead, those living in "food deserts" must rely on convenience stores and small neighborhood stores that offer few, if any, healthy food choices, such as fruits and vegetables. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) and National Research Council (NRC) convened a two-day workshop on January 26-27, 2009, to provide input into a Congressionally-mandated food deserts study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service. The workshop, summarized in this volume, provided a forum in which to discuss the public health effects of food deserts.

Book Synopsis The Meeting of Civilizations by : Moshe Maʻoz
Download or read book The Meeting of Civilizations written by Moshe Maʻoz and published by ISBS. This book was released on 2009 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The horrific acts of anti-Western and anti-Jewish terrorism carried out by Muslim fanatics during the last decades have been labeled by politicians, religious leaders, and scholars as a "Clash of Civilizations." However, as the contributors to this book explain, these acts cannot be considered an Islamic onslaught on Judeo-Christian civilization. While the hostile ideas, words, and deeds perpetrated by supporters among the three monotheistic civilizations cannot be ignored, history has demonstrated a more positive, constructive - albeit complex - relationship among Muslim, Christians, and Jews during medieval and modern times. For long periods of time, they shared divine and human values - cooperated in cultural, economic, and political fields - and have influenced one another's thinking. This book examines religious and historical themes of these three civilizing religions, including the impact of education on their interrelationship, the problem of Jerusalem, as well as contemporary interfaith relations. Noted scholars and theologians - Jewish, Christian, and Muslim - from the United States, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Israel, Pakistan, Palestine, and Turkey contribute to this book, the theme of which was first presented at an international conference organized by the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, and the Divinity School, Harvard University.

Book Synopsis Introductory Course On Financial Mathematics by : Michael Tretyakov
Download or read book Introductory Course On Financial Mathematics written by Michael Tretyakov and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013-07-23 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an elementary introduction to the basic concepts of financial mathematics with a central focus on discrete models and an aim to demonstrate simple, but widely used, financial derivatives for managing market risks. Only a basic knowledge of probability, real analysis, ordinary differential equations, linear algebra and some common sense are required to understand the concepts considered in this book.Financial mathematics is an application of advanced mathematical and statistical methods to financial management and markets, with a main objective of quantifying and hedging risks. Since the book aims to present the basics of financial mathematics to the reader, only essential elements of probability and stochastic analysis are given to explain ideas concerning derivative pricing and hedging. To keep the reader intrigued and motivated, the book has a ‘sandwich’ structure: probability and stochastics are given in situ where mathematics can be readily illustrated by application to finance. The first part of the book introduces one of the main principles in finance — ‘no arbitrage pricing’. It also introduces main financial instruments such as forward and futures contracts, bonds and swaps, and options. The second part deals with pricing and hedging of European- and American-type options in the discrete-time setting. In addition, the concept of complete and incomplete markets is discussed. Elementary probability is briefly revised and discrete-time discrete-space stochastic processes used in financial modelling are considered. The third part introduces the Wiener process, Ito integrals and stochastic differential equations, but its main focus is the famous Black-Scholes formula for pricing European options. Some guidance for further study within this exciting and rapidly changing field is given in the concluding chapter. There are approximately 100 exercises interspersed throughout the book, and solutions for most problems are provided in the appendices.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Finance by : Silvia Romagnoli
Download or read book Mathematical Finance written by Silvia Romagnoli and published by Societa Editrice Esculapio. This book was released on 2015 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True to its title, this book is focused on mathematical finance field and it is draft in order to accomplish the level aimed at second or third year undergraduate students, not only of mathematics but also, for example, business management, finance and economics. The aim of this book is to provide the basic concepts concerning the mathematical finance which is unescapable to understand the way modern financial markets operate. Thanks to these fundamental concepts, which are completely concentrated on a deterministic modelization of the markets, students are ready to approach more advanced courses focused on the modern area of financial math. Here the deterministic assumption is left and stochastic assumptions concerning the evolution of the involved variables are included.
