(African proverb) Do you ever look at people who are successful, healthy, and happy and wonder what their secret is? Why you can't be like that? After more than a decade of struggling with emotional eating, depression, and low self-esteem, I realized that the reason I couldn't be happy like the people I envied was that I didn't love myself. Nowadays, people come to me for counseling, convinced that they're hopeless. There's no way they can learn how to unconditionally love themselves! I meet people who say they envy that I love myself, since they're too messed up, worthless, unattractive, etc. to be loved. The reasons they believe this vary greatly, but the common ground is that they were made to feel unlovable, unaccepted, or worthless in the past and feel too low to recover. Now, it's true that these habits can't be changed overnight, but with patience and consistency, you can reprogram yourself and develop true unconditional love and acceptance for yourself as the imperfect person you (we all!) are. Even if you can't meet the expectations of others on a daily basis, don't excel at anything, or don't look like a Victoria's Secret model, everyone should be treated with respect, understanding, love, and acceptance - including you. In this guide, I will help you to: - Develop new habits that will significantly boost your feelings and actions of self-love on a daily basis - Realize the importance of taking good care of yourself and your body and how to bring this in practice - Let go of self-talk, behaviors, and people that do not serve you - Understand why it's so important to forgive yourself and not feel guilty about your mistakes - Become aware of who you really are, how you feel, and what you need - And more...

Book excerpt: "When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you." ~African Proverb Do you ever look at people who are successful, healthy and happy and wonder what their secret is? Why you can't be like that? After more than a decade long struggle with emotional eating, depression, and low self-esteem, I realized that the reason I couldn't be happy like the people I envied was that I didn't love myself. For me, developing self-love has been profoundly healing. I can hardly believe how effortless it has been for me to quit overeating, exercise daily, attract a loving relationship, and have the career of my dreams. Nowadays, people come to me for counseling, convinced that they're hopeless. There's no way they can learn how to unconditionally love themselves! I meet people who say they envy that I love myself, since they're too messed up, worthless, unattractive etc. to be loved. The reasons they believe this vary greatly, but the common ground is that they were made to feel unlovable, unaccepted or worthless in the past and feel too low to recover. You may recognize yourself in the following stories: How can I love my fat body? I hate it. I was abused as a child and told I deserved it. I do so much to please others and they do nothing in return. My dad said I wasn't smart enough to amount to anything so why try. I've been put down by my family since childhood. It's too late to change that low opinion I've had drummed into my head. My first real love criticized me non-stop and I can't let go of feeling I'm not good enough to be loved. These messages leave a deep imprint and you probably developed habits, automatic responses of the mind, that correspond "I'm unlovable" "I don't matter" to yourself and the outside world. You may be in the habit of eating too much junk food when you feel bad, criticizing the things you do wrong, ignoring your positive assets, always saying yes to others, or staying with people who treat you poorly. You deserve so much better! Now, it's true that these habits can't be changed overnight, but with patience and consistency you can reprogram yourself and develop true unconditional love and acceptance for yourself, as the imperfect person you (we all!) are. Even if you can't meet the expectations of others on a daily basis, don't excel at anything or don't look like a Victoria's Secret model. Everyone should be treated with respect, understanding, love and acceptance. Including YOU. Don't fall for the myth that self-love is selfish; it's not. In the end, the more you love and take care of yourself, the more you will have to give others. In this guide "The 7 Habits of Self-Loving People" I will help you to: Develop new habits that will significantly boost your feelings and actions of self-love on a daily base Realize the importance of taking good care of yourself and your body, and how to bring this in practice Let go of self-talk, behaviors, things and people that do not serve you Understand why it's so important to forgive yourself and not feel guilty about your mistakes Become aware of who you really are, how you feel and want you need ..and much more inside! Take the first step towards learning how to love yourself unconditionally today! The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. ~ Lao Tzu

Book excerpt: Severing a cherished relationship is one of the most painful experiences in life—and cutting those emotional ties to a loved one can feel almost like ending an addiction. Up till now, people recovering from other problems were able to get real help—like AA and rehab—while those struggling in the aftermath of traumatic breaks dealt with platitudes and friends insisting they should "get over it already." But now Exaholics Anonymous treats getting over an ex like kicking a chemical habit. Written by counselor and therapist Dr. Lisa Bobby, Exaholics offers meaningful support and advice to anyone trapped in the obsessive pain of a broken, or dying, attachment. She helps the brokenhearted heal, showing them, on a deep level, how to develop a conceptual framework for their experience, understand the emotional processes at work inside themselves, find the path to recovery, and free themselves of shame, injured ego, and remorse. In-depth case studies of others' journeys will illuminate the way to future happiness.

There are many forms of love, from the adoration we feel to our family and friends to the all consuming passion we may develop for a spouse. Loving yourself, deeply and fully, is fundamental to living a life that brings you happiness and joy. This book tackles this tricky concept and explores the ins and outs of what being true to yourself and honestly loving who you are really means. Small daily steps can add up to a more joyful existence, one where you treat yourself with the love and compassion you already show your friends and family. From finding 'me' time to forgiving yourself, the journey to self-worth and confidence begins with being kind to yourself and learning to love who you are - this guide will show you how.

Book excerpt: Learning to love yourself lets you live the life you always wanted This book teaches you the importance of self-love, including what it means, why it matters, and how to develop a healthy mindset and habits Why is loving yourself important? It improves your confidence and self-esteem It makes you more productive and fulfilled It helps you reduce the amount of stress in your life It's contagious and makes others want to be around you It helps you see yourself as the valuable, important person you truly are Fight against destructive negativity and low-esteem This book knows that self-love is not an easy task, and it's certainly not one that most people know how to do by default. You'll learn how to asses your current self-esteem and identify the roadblocks that are holding you back from loving yourself. Then, you'll learn how to transform that negativity into positivity. . Embrace healthy diet, exercise, and self-care We're constantly told that to be a good person, we have to focus entirely on others and never ourselves. That's a common misconception, and what ends up happening is we push ourselves so hard that we become drained of life, and have nothing to offer others. If you really care about loving others, you have to love yourself, first. This book provides a path on how to treat yourself as you treat others, including better diet, exercise, and always beginning the day with self-love. That can include journaling and treating yourself to something you enjoy. You also want to be kind to yourself, and only consume positive media, books, and TV. Only surround yourself with what encourages you There are obstacles to self-love, so it's important to get rid of as many of them as possible. Surround yourself with friends and family who encourage you, and don't bring you down. Think carefully about your friends and if there's someone who always has harmful words for you, avoid spending time with them or giving them the opportunity to criticize you. Some people don't even realize what they're doing, so have conversations with these friends about how they treat you. Have the same conversation with yourself, if necessary. Many people harbor guilt and bitterness against themselves, so learn how to forgive and forget. Commit to the journey of self-love Turning negativity into positivity, and self-hatred into self-love is a journey. Setting goals for yourself is an important part of the process, and focusing on small things you can do every day to improve your self-esteem. You'll start to see positive results like more energy, less depressive episodes, and just a lighter sense of being. Be sure to reward yourself for your progress, and celebrate every victory as it comes. Learning to say "no" One of the hardest parts of self-care is saying "no," whether it's to negative influences or people. This book will explore how to say "no" well, and what happens afterwards. Body image and the media A common variation of self-hatred is hatred of your own body. The media has been an incredibly destructive force, and forces the idea of what "perfect" is. This book will break down signs that you may have a body image problem, and what to do about it. Part of loving yourself is loving the skin you're in, and loving yourself as a whole. Love yourself for a week, for 30 days, and beyond! Let this book be your guide to self-love and self-care every step of the way. It isn't a selfish, or foolish endeavor. Self-love will transform your life.

Book excerpt: Most of us go through life with a vision of what the ideal relationship is supposed to be, yet too often our longing for a soul mate leads to disappointment and heartbreak. What we see, desire, or harshly judge in our mate is but a reflection of self, Vanzant explains, as in IN THE MEANTIME she helps us to break free of our fantasies and view a relationship as an ongoing process of discovery and growth. Whether she is offering practical advice on how to avoid making the same relationship mistakes over and over again, or helping us to view the painful end of a relationship as an opportunity to learn and change, Iyanla Vanzant, as author Patrice Gains has said, 'reminds us that every moment is an opportunity to learn and inspires and encourages us to continue our inward daily search'.

Book excerpt: Drs. Lindsay and Lexie Kite know firsthand how hard filtering out media influence is when it comes to self-image. Both struggled as young women to overcome the expectations of body size and shape, but were able to learn to love, appreciate, and reclaim their own bodies, eventually earning their PhDs in body image resilience. The twin sisters founded the nonprofit Beauty Redefined and have made it their mission to help other women see themselves without societal expectations distorting their self-perception. More than a Body is a self-help book focused on going beyond body positivity, showing how a mindset focused on appearance sets women up for insecurities and self-judgement. In this book, they offer an action plan for readers to combat that mindset, and instead learn how the body can be "an instrument, not an ornament," with practical, actionable steps to take when consuming media, exercising, practicing self-reflection and self-compassion, and finding a purpose in life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book: This book explores our ideas of self, repeatedly revealing "who we are not" to gently bring us into peace without attempting to alter our external conditions. It is well known that when we dissociate ourselves from all our worldly identities, we will naturally come to peace. This book lays out a clear roadmap to achieve enduring peace through detachment. But detachment does not mean renouncement of all types of pleasures and living a life of inactivity and boredom. In truth, detachment can relieve us of all the burdens and baggage we carry, leaving us free to enjoy all the genuine pleasures available on earth to the fullest. The only condition is that we must not cling to the pleasures but be ready to let them go freely. Hence our life here can be one of unending joy and achievement. About the Author: Born in 1960 in the rich culture of South India and educated in English, he was exposed to two opposing world views enabling him to achieve synergy and realize true harmony. He belongs to the linguistic community "Saurashtra" who were silk weavers patronised by kings of yore. His ancestors are said to have migrated from the western part of India to Tamil Nadu in the south several centuries ago. Born to a father who served in the lower ranks of the Indian Central Government and a mother who was less educated, he was brought up by his grandmother, a very traditional woman, in the extended family. With his two younger brothers he was afforded English education from the beginning that enabled him to become fluent in the language right from his childhood. Graduating in Agriculture from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore in 1982, he secured the prestigious position of Probationary Officer in State Bank of India, the premier bank in India. After a dedicated service of over two decades, he ventured out on his own to learn about real life outside the cocoon of privileged living that his parents and his job had offered him till then. Growing up in the country as India underwent its pangs of Westernisation, he was able to synthesise the self-oriented Western perspective with the community oriented native one to arrive at a wholesome concept of self after considerable efforts and experimentation. This book is the culmination of decades of efforts in discovering his real place in the world. Married to Vijayashree with a daughter Meenalochani, who has gifted him with a lovely granddaughter, he lives in the Southern Indian cities of Bangalore and Coimbatore with his family and his aged aunt.
