Book excerpt: Spaghetti Westerns--mostly produced in Italy or by Italians but made throughout Europe--were bleaker, rougher, grittier imitations of Hollywood Westerns, focusing on heroes only slightly less evil than the villains. After a main filmography covering 558 Spaghetti Westerns, another section provides filmographies of personnel--actors and actresses, directors, musical composers, scriptwriters, cinematographers. Appendices provide lists of the popular Django films and the Sartana films, a listing of U.S.-made Spaghetti Western lookalikes, top ten and twenty lists and a list of the genre's worst.

Book excerpt: The book The Right Wing: the Good, the Bad, and the Crazy discusses the political right in the United States from Prohibition through recent speculation concerning the presidential campaign of 2016. A chapter is devoted to each U.S. President from Franklin Delano Roosevelt to George W. Bush. Many references are contained in the book concerning right wing personalities such as Robert Welch, Joe McCarthy, Barry Goldwater, Rush Limbaugh, Darrel Issa and others. Right wing organizations such as the John Birch Society, Fox News, and the Tea Party are analyzed. The Afterword section contains the authors solution to issues such as gun control, the U.S. Debt, the need for additional federal revenues, and the lack of medium and large U.S. corporations tax support of the U.S. government. Controversial issues such as sex education, immigration, and the present large gap between wealthy and middle class income are discussed in the book. The influence of the religious right in politics is analyzed. The author, Charles Rider, analyzes some of the above issues from an attorneys perspective. The book contains facts not generally known by readers such as Senator McCarthy, the communist witch hunter, subpoenaed many witnesses and forced them to testify in front of the Senate Permanent Sub Committee on Investigations. None of the witnesses ever went to jail or prison for communist activity. McCarthys committee records of witnesses testimony and background disappeared from the FBI files and the National Archives. During the Afghan War, Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld created a monetary reward program for information as to names of terrorists. Leaflets were distributed that the U.S. Government would pay up to $15,000 for names of terrorists. People turned in their enemies and sometimes goat herders and store clerks ended up in Guantanamo.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The former Rolling Stone writer and MTV host takes off from classic Roger Ebert and sails boldly into the new millennium. Millions grew up reading the author's record reviews and watching him on MTV's "The Week in Rock." In this collection of more than 200 movie reviews from MTV.com and, more recently, the Reason magazine Website, plus sidebars exclusive to this volume, Loder demonstrates his characteristic wry voice and finely honed observations. The author shines when writing on the best that Hollywood and indie filmmakers have to offer, and his negative reviews are sometimes more fun than his raves. This freewheeling survey of the wild, the wonderful and the altogether otherwise is an indispensable book for any film buff.

You'll relive the 50 sacks of the fearsome 1964 defense but also the anemic offense of the 1-13 1971 Bills. The hurry-up offense led by Jim Kelly but also the nine turnovers in Super Bowl XVII.The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly: Buffalo Billsincludes the best and worst Bills teams and players of all time, the most clutch performances and performers, the biggest choke jobs and chokers, great comebacks and blown leads, plus overrated and underrated Bills players and coaches. Compelling photos. And much, much more. If you're a through-thick-and-thin Bills fan,The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly: Buffalo Billsis especially for you. It will remind you of the good and great times and bring a knowing smile about some of those other times, when you proved to yourself just how loyal you are. For everyone else, this warts-and-all portrait of the Bills will provide countless fond memories, goose bumps, and laughs.

Managers need to understand the causes for their constant distraction, become more aware of the negatives they inadvertently inflict, and the hollowness of the rationales they use to justify what they do. Company leaders, CEOs, and top tier managers need to become more aware of the ever-present concerns of their own workforce, implementing the management mentality they want in their company and then teaching their managerial employees how to absorb it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The one thing that Jigneshbhai likes is a quite life. But his restless friend doesn't let him have much of it. Especially when it comes to his health. "My cholesterol has gone up. My triglycerides are also on the higher side, The sugar level is also not very comfortable. I am on the edge of being prediabetic," Swami announced, and that was just the start. When that innocent health check-up report was seen by Raji Periamma, it leads to Swami and Jigneshbhai meeting a specialist. And it turns out to be only the first step in a series of unexpected episodes. It starts with an accidental meet with astrologers, leads them to a funny drunkard and results in some unnecessary action at the cinema hall. It starts a set of funny coincidences and uneasy trickery leading up to a temple visit that shakes Swami’s faith. As Jigneshbhai and Swami manoeuvre this motley group of the bad and the silly, it takes a speech and a doctor’s appointment for the confusion to unwind and let the multiple cats out of the multiple bags! The author builds an intriguing tale of good vs evil through a set of motley silly characters and everyday situations that accompany Swami's book smartness and Jigneshbhai's street smartness. Often delving into the difference between knowledge and wisdom with philosophical musings, the author peppers them with tongue-in-cheek humour. The characters of the wealthy old man and a spiritual talking dog Deja add a taste of comic wisdom. Ranjit Kulkarni takes us on a ride with Jigneshbhai and Swami in his debut novel - a ride that is a mix of humour and wisdom, and as the title aptly suggests a mix of the good, the bad and the silly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Axis War on the side of Germany, Mussolini's Italy was responsible for serious war crimes, especially in Yugoslavia and Greece. This 'dark side' of the fascist war, however, is not present in the national memory built after 1945. To distinguish Italy from the former German ally and avoid a punitive peace, the monarchist and anti-fascist ruling classes elaborated a master narrative that highlighted the opposition of the Italian people to Mussolini's war and the humanitarian behavior of Italian soldiers, depicted as saviors of Jews. All responsibility for the crimes committed in the Axis war was placed on the shoulders of the Germans, who thus became a convenient alibi for the national conscience.

To: [email protected] PROPOSAL FOR URGENT ASSISTANCE Dear Sir: I must solicit your confidence in this transaction. I am a high placed official with the Department of Finance Affairs in Lagos, Nigeria. I and two other colleagues are in need of a silent foreign partner whose bank account we can use to transfer the sum of $18,000,000. This are monies left by a barrister who died tragically in a plane crash last year. . . Sound familiar? Congratulations. You have been selected to become a mugu, an expression African con artists use to describe the targets of their e-mail scams. But they drew a bead on the wrong guy when they started spamming Steve H. Graham. Like many Internet users, Graham eventually got tired of receiving mugu mail and decided to fire back at his wannabe swindlers. Armed with a scathing sense of humor, Graham quickly turned the tables on his tormenters—with side-splittingly hilarious results. Whether he's referring to his fictional lawyer Biff Wellington, complaining about the injury he received while milking a lactating sloth, or offering the Preparation H helpline as his phone number, Graham—using aliases such as Wile E. Coyote, Barney Rubble, and Herman Munster—offers proof that spamming the spammers is the best revenge. Steve H. Graham is a retired attorney. Since childhood, he has been fighting for truth, justice, and free movie passes. For each copy sold of this book, he will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to himself. He is also the author of the cookbook Eat What You Want and Die Like a Man. He lives in Miami.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “With wit and clarity, Katch argues for social movements, political activism, and socialism as the alternatives we need to win the world we want” (Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, author of From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation). The election of Donald Trump has sent the United States and the world into uncharted waters, with a bigoted, petty man-child at the head of the planet’s most powerful empire. Danny Katch indicts the hollowness of the US political system which led to Trump’s rise and puts forward a vision for a real alternative, a democracy that works for the people. “In the tradition of Abbie Hoffman and George Carlin, Sarah Silverman and Dave Chappelle, Katch’s generous, embracing humor is deployed to uncover the deepest truths of our predicament. Don’t miss it.” —Bill Ayers, author of Demand the Impossible!: A Radical Manifesto “This is a moment when politics and laughter are both necessities for survival. Without them we would be lost. Now we have a book that gives us both.” —Dave Zirin, author of Game Over: How Politics Has Turned the Sports World Upside Down “If you or your friends and family have been shocked and horrified since Election Day, Katch will calm you down, cheer you up, and get you ready to fight.” —Sarah Jaffe, podcast host and author of Necessary Trouble “It’s horrible, tragic, ridiculous, and full of suspense. But enough about the White House. This book will make you laugh out loud, learn something about our world, and get inspired to change it.” —Brian Jones, actor, educator, and activist

Book excerpt: Vampires have secretly grown wealthy behind the scenes for centuries, involved in monumental tasks such as overthrowing governments, and mundane ones like running local strip clubs. But instead of viewing things from afar, they like to plunging headfirst into debauchery themselves. In modern times, the sexy unofficial vampire boss gets in deep trouble after her group's move to St. Louis. Along with her right hand vamp "Scummy" (who battles an eternal hangover, an everlasting erection and extreme lack of couth) and a cast of other assorted degenerates, they must prepare for one last battle against an old antagonist from days past. None of this is made easier by the training of new "rookie" vampire, a local St. Louis "hoosier", along the way. Imagine if vampires were far more human than anyone gives them credit for but too rich, too bored, and too immortal to play by any of the rules.
