He once said that in a good round, he hit just three shots exactly the way he wanted. He understood that golf is more a game of misses than a game of perfection. Until a brash young amateur attempts to prove him wrong. When Gordon Howard, trust fund baby and amateur golfer par excellence, comes to the sudden realization that his cushy job working for his father’s mega hedge fund has been a colossal mistake, his world free- falls into a tailspin. Searching for fulfillment and meaning to his life, he throws caution to the wind and embarks on a mission to become a professional golfer on the PGA tour. His goal is to win the coveted US Open. Amidst the pressure of his level headed girlfriend to abandon his pipedream, Gordon is contacted by a man he has never met, who offers him what he has been desperately searching for, an infallible golf swing. Book excerpt: Who controls every bounce, gust of wind and subtle break on the golf course? It's Ti Ming and Tem Po, the mystical golf gods, of course! Ti Ming and Tem Po are the guardians of the game. They know all, see all and control the fate of everything in golf. Those who dishonor or disbelieve in the golf gods do so at their own peril. In the first book from Texas golf writer Mark Button, "Finding Ti Ming & Tem Po, Legend of the golf gods," believers young and old benefit from their trust in the golf gods. Disguised as small wooden statues, Ti Ming and Tem Po come alive in the dream world and teach their students to love, respect and master the game. All the while, the golf gods impart the life lessons and virtues the game instills, such as confidence, honesty, judgment, respect and perseverance. Their amazing journey touches the lives of many. Among them are Jack, a curious young boy seeking confidence; Anna, a cocky tomboy with a strained relationship with her father; and Tommy, a once-promising amateur golfer whose life is derailed by bad decisions. With the help of Ti Ming and Tem Po, things change dramatically for all who believe. Good fortunes on the golf course await all who believe, including you. If you believe in Ti Ming and Tem Po, anything is possible. Long live the golf gods! Visit www.timingandtempo.com for more information.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Hole-in-One and Other Miracles is a book about the Lord's miraculous workings in the life of one ordinary Christian. The book begins with an unusual event which happened a few months after the author found faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord. He already had a series of miracles which led him to his knees in thanking God for his redemption. Therefore, he really didn't need the unusual event to confirm his faith. However, the irrefutable event listed first in this book, it is hoped, should most assuredly be found compelling. The rest of the book details a series of miracles in the author's Christian life of forty-three years. They include healings, lifesavers, a calling, and a few wonderful discoveries. The original purpose of the book was to encourage Christians of all denominational, nondenominational, and independent churches to not be afraid to share their personal miracles with others. Many today are intimidated to keep those events to themselves. However, we live in an age where biblical doctrine has been watered down to such an extent, that many don't really know what to believe any longer. God's Hole-in-One has also an evangelistic mission. Every person alive could have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ if they only knew the truth of who Jesus is. He had a mission to offer himself as the sacrificial lamb that would take away the sins of the world as well as its penalty. An explanation of Christ's finished work on the cross and what it means is woven throughout the chapters. He has made an offer to all of us to live with Him forever, but few today seem to understand what that means. The miracles presented in this book should encourage all who read it to seriously consider the claims of Christ. As he said, "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32) His truth is so easy to see that even a child can understand it. He who has it will be "free indeed!" (John 8:36) The journey of miracles of this ordinary Christian, many against very high odds, was the Lord's doing, and it is finally time to share it with all who will listen. John has been presenting his message, 'The Importance of Miracles in a Christian's Life' to churches in Arizona. It's not about the book, it's a message of encouragement for all Christians in these chaotic times. If anyone would like to have John present his message to their church, Christian school, adult Sunday school class, Bible study, or any other Christian group, please contact John at: [email protected]

Book excerpt: This hilarious book invites you to sit down and share dinner with the Morans, a family of ten children, and after dinner to share in the familys pranks and crises. You will walk the streets of Carmel, Indiana, a quiet, small town, visit its shops, and meet its neighborly people. Along the way, you will learn what it was like growing up in a large family in a small town during the 1950s and 1960s. Whimsical and, at times, knee-slapping tales guide you through childhood, teen years, early adulthood, and beyond. You get a peek at family dynamics and the struggles of an insecure boys first encounters with romance. You also learn what it was like to be a journalist, a government economist, a parent, and a golf fanatic. The stories are warm, touching, and always funny. The people you meet, mostly based on the authors siblings, are friendly and fun-loving. The situations, based on real events and family lore, will keep you laughing. The author helps you see life through humors prism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of one man’s quest to become the first person to play each of America’s 100 greatest golf courses in a single year, an odyssey that brings him face to face with the gulf between his impoverished childhood in the Jim Crow South and the successful executive he became. When he set out to play each of Golf Digest’s America’s 100 greatest golf courses in one year, Jimmie James knew he was attempting the impossible. But then again, he’d spent his entire life defying the odds. James was born invisible. His birth certificate, long since filed away in some clerk’s office in East Texas, recorded facts about him that were deemed most relevant in the late 1950s: “colored” and “illegitimate.” His great-great-grandmother was enslaved, and his early life was confined by the privation and segregation of the late Jim Crow-era South. Four decades later—having put himself through an HBCU and determinedly risen through the executive ranks at ExxonMobil—he embarked on his journey to play the 100 greatest golf courses in the United States. In a single year. From the first tee at Augusta National, the distance between the world he grew up in and the world of extreme privilege to which he’d now managed to gain access was impossible to ignore. Playing from the Rough is a remarkable memoir of race, class, family, and the power of perseverance, as James braids his love of golf with reflections on the path that took him from childhood poverty to the most exclusive and opulent golf courses in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In July 1998, GOD approached a man, to assist GOD and channel his will into the written word. This book is the result of that conversation. GOD is responsible for the flow, topics and discussions. The man simply wrote what GOD spoke and what thoughts he received. "GOD is speaking - Are you listening? My Story" is GOD'S full disclosure to his human family, including his laws of Life and Death. He speaks to Steve as a friend. That is, a friend of GOD'S, chosen by GOD. The fact that anyone would be allowed to hear his voice is astonishing. In this day and age of miracles, is it so far fetched not to believe? He speaks to Steve of his world...Heaven. He speaks of his Love for his human family. GOD tells it like he sees it. No soft touch, no political correctness, just the plain truth, GOD'S Truth. July 5th 1998 4:00 P.M. I AM the GOD of ALL. The reason for this writing is that the stories I AM about to unfold to you, through my friend Steve, are stories to teach, inspire and to create hope. Hope, in that when you greet me in my Heavenly Kingdom, you will have a better understanding, appreciation and moral imperatives, necessary to the alleviation of your guilt. I AM in the world as a spirit of Love, hope, divine inspiration and most of all understanding. I have tried to conquer you, and your fears, by sending messengers to your world, Moses, Abraham, Isaac and Jesus the Christ. I have been alive 50 million of your Earth years and the stories I AM about to tell you are just one of many, told countless times in my Kingdom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contemporary culture, accountability is usually understood in terms of holding people who have done something wrong accountable for their actions. As such, it is virtually synonymous with punishing someone. Living Accountably argues that accountability should also be understood as a significant, forward-looking virtue, an excellence possessed by those who willingly embrace being accountable to those who have proper standing, when that standing is exercised appropriately. Those who have this virtue are people who strive to live accountably. The book gives a fine-grained description of the virtue and how it is exercised, including an account of the motivational profile of the one who has the virtue. It examines the relation of accountability to other virtues, such as honesty and humility, as well as opposing vices, such as self-deception, arrogance, and servility. Though the virtue of accountability is compatible with individual autonomy, recognizing the importance of the virtue does justice to the social character of human persons. C. Stephen Evans also explores the history of this virtue in other cultures and historical eras, providing evidence that the virtue is widely recognized, even if it is somewhat eclipsed in modern western societies. Accountability is also a virtue that connects ethical life with religious life for many people, since it is common for people to have a sense that they are accountable in a global way for how they live their lives. Living Accountably explores the question as to whether global accountability can be understood in a purely secular way, as accountability to other humans, or whether it must be understood as accountability to God, or some other transcendent reality.

Book excerpt: In this refreshing new take on spirituality, bestselling author Deepak Chopra uses a fictional tale of a comedian and his unlikely mentor to show us a path back to hope, joy, and even enlightenment—with a lot of laughter along the way. Meet Mickey Fellows. A successful L.A. comedian, he’s just a regular guy, with his fair share of fears, egocentricities, and addictions. After his father’s death, Mickey meets a mysterious stranger named Francisco, who changes his life forever. The two begin an ongoing discussion about the true nature of being. Reluctantly at first, Mickey accepts the stranger’s help and starts to explore his own life in an effort to answer the riddles Francisco poses. Mickey starts to look at those aspects of himself that he has hidden behind a wall of wisecracks all his life. Eventually Mickey realizes that authentic humor opens him up to the power of spirit—allowing him to finally make real connections with people. After taking the reader on a journey with Mickey, Chopra then spells out the lessons that Mickey’s story imparts to us: ten reasons to be optimistic, even in our challenging world. Chopra believes that the healthiest response to life is laughter from the heart, and even in the face of global turmoil, we can cultivate an internal sense of optimism. Rich with humor and practical advice, Why Is God Laughing? shows us without a doubt that there is always a reason to be grateful, that every possibility holds the promise of abundance, and that obstacles are simply opportunities in disguise. In the end, we really don’t need a reason to be happy. The power of happiness lies within each of us, just waiting to be unleashed. And Mickey Fellows’s journey shows us the way.

Meanwhile, in Zaire, a disgraced former nun, Delilah, grapples with a past that refuses to stay buried. When these personal crises send both middle-aged women back to their rural hometown to heal, the discovery of an abandoned newborn baby upends everything, challenging their lifelong beliefs about race, motherhood, and the power of the past. As the mystery surrounding the infant grows, the complicated lives of Zodwa, Ruth, and Delilah become inextricably linked. What follows is a mesmerizing look at family and identity that asks: How far will the human heart go to protect itself and the ones it loves?
