Eliza, a talented singer, is terrified to sign up for auditions although she has dreamed about starring in the musical since the third grade. But she's been friends with Lucy--who has been deaf since birth--even longer, and is amazed when her friend decides to try out. Eliza swallows her fear, however, and promises to attend the audition....The girls' characters are skillfully contrasted, and their tale is chronicled with a fresh, exuberant and up-beat style that moves the book along to its gratifying conclusion."--Publishers Weekly. "A rare book."--Booklist.

Book excerpt: Many Christians would be excited to know they have a spiritual inheritance, but they don't have a clue what that really involves. Why is that? Juanita Bynum, author of the New york Times best seller The Threshing Floor, takes you right to the core issue. What place does your pastor hold in your church, your community, and your own heart? Bynum minces no words as she describes how our spiritual leaders have been placed in our lives to help us move into the full portion of the inheritance god has for us. But it will not happen unless we allow them to speak into our lives. Bynum answers the following questions: ? Do I really want to be released into the spiritual destiny god has for me? ? Am I ready to inherit the power god has deposited in my spiritual forefathers? ? Do I want to see spiritual authority flowing through my pastor and my church? ? Am I ready to inherit my destiny from god to go out and minister to others?

Book excerpt: * Schneider Family Book Award Winner * A gorgeous and empowering picture book biography about Evelyn Glennie, a deaf woman, who became the first full-time solo percussionist in the world. (Cover may vary) "No. You can't," people said. But Evelyn knew she could. She had found her own way to listen. From the moment Evelyn Glennie heard her first note, music held her heart. She played the piano by ear at age eight, and the clarinet by age ten. But soon, the nerves in her ears began to deteriorate, and Evelyn was told that, as a deaf girl, she could never be a musician. What sounds Evelyn couldn’thear with her ears, though, she could feel resonate through her body as if she, herself, were a drum. And the music she created was extraordinary. Evelyn Glennie had learned how to listen in a new way. And soon, the world was listening too. "Radiant." —Publishers Weekly "Perfect for elementary school readers . . . Excellent." —SLJ "Beautiful." —A Mighty Girl “Lyrical . . . Expressive . . . Vibrant.” —Booklist “An intriguing, loving biography.” —Kirkus "Engaging [and] vibrant." —The Horn Book "Fantastic." —Book Riot

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mental Illness is real and goes undetected every day simply because we focus on the outside, not knowing the demons one may be wrestling with on the inside. It is my belief that the secrets I was carrying caused my mental illness. I also believe that the secrets other family members were carrying caused theirs as well, even landed a few of them in a mental institution. At one point in my life, I use to suffer from bipolar disorder, manic depression, and paranoid schizophrenic. Which caused me to be emotional detached from my children for fear that something terrible would happen. I was selfish and deliberately set out to harm people, but in the end it cost me and it's a price that I am still paying today. However, God had a master plan and He used what I thought at the time was an unjust; the death of my grandmother to killed me in order to heal me. Now I am a living testimony of His goodness and grace. So much good has come from her death, relationships that I would have never experience merely because I would have never learned how to forgive and that was the key to a life of abundance. "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worth to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18)
