This book was released on 2019-12-02 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let G be a reductive group over the field F=k((t)), where k is an algebraic closure of a finite field, and let W be the (extended) affine Weyl group of G. The associated affine Deligne–Lusztig varieties Xx(b), which are indexed by elements b∈G(F) and x∈W, were introduced by Rapoport. Basic questions about the varieties Xx(b) which have remained largely open include when they are nonempty, and if nonempty, their dimension. The authors use techniques inspired by geometric group theory and combinatorial representation theory to address these questions in the case that b is a pure translation, and so prove much of a sharpened version of a conjecture of Görtz, Haines, Kottwitz, and Reuman. The authors' approach is constructive and type-free, sheds new light on the reasons for existing results in the case that b is basic, and reveals new patterns. Since they work only in the standard apartment of the building for G(F), their results also hold in the p-adic context, where they formulate a definition of the dimension of a p-adic Deligne–Lusztig set. The authors present two immediate applications of their main results, to class polynomials of affine Hecke algebras and to affine reflection length.

Book Synopsis Advances in Algebraic Geometry Codes by : Edgar Martinez-Moro
Download or read book Advances in Algebraic Geometry Codes written by Edgar Martinez-Moro and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Algebraic Geometry Codes presents the most successful applications of algebraic geometry to the field of error-correcting codes, which are used in the industry when one sends information through a noisy channel. The noise in a channel is the corruption of a part of the information due to either interferences in the telecommunications or degradation of the information-storing support (for instance, compact disc). An error-correcting code thus adds extra information to the message to be transmitted with the aim of recovering the sent information. With contributions from renowned researchers, this pioneering book will be of value to mathematicians, computer scientists, and engineers in information theory.

Download or read book Affine Flag Manifolds and Principal Bundles written by Alexander Schmitt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-28 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Affine flag manifolds are infinite dimensional versions of familiar objects such as Graßmann varieties. The book features lecture notes, survey articles, and research notes - based on workshops held in Berlin, Essen, and Madrid - explaining the significance of these and related objects (such as double affine Hecke algebras and affine Springer fibers) in representation theory (e.g., the theory of symmetric polynomials), arithmetic geometry (e.g., the fundamental lemma in the Langlands program), and algebraic geometry (e.g., affine flag manifolds as parameter spaces for principal bundles). Novel aspects of the theory of principal bundles on algebraic varieties are also studied in the book.

Book Synopsis Fourier Transforms of Invariant Functions on Finite Reductive Lie Algebras by : Emmanuel Letellier
Download or read book Fourier Transforms of Invariant Functions on Finite Reductive Lie Algebras written by Emmanuel Letellier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-11-15 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourier transforms of invariant functions on finite reductive Lie algebras are due to T.A. Springer (1976) in connection with the geometry of nilpotent orbits. In this book the author studies Fourier transforms using Deligne-Lusztig induction and the Lie algebra version of Lusztig’s character sheaves theory. He conjectures a commutation formula between Deligne-Lusztig induction and Fourier transforms that he proves in many cases. As an application the computation of the values of the trigonometric sums (on reductive Lie algebras) is shown to reduce to the computation of the generalized Green functions and to the computation of some fourth roots of unity.
Book Synopsis Berkeley Lectures on P-adic Geometry by : Peter Scholze
Download or read book Berkeley Lectures on P-adic Geometry written by Peter Scholze and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Berkeley Lectures on p-adic Geometry presents an important breakthrough in arithmetic geometry. In 2014, leading mathematician Peter Scholze delivered a series of lectures at the University of California, Berkeley, on new ideas in the theory of p-adic geometry. Building on his discovery of perfectoid spaces, Scholze introduced the concept of “diamonds,” which are to perfectoid spaces what algebraic spaces are to schemes. The introduction of diamonds, along with the development of a mixed-characteristic shtuka, set the stage for a critical advance in the discipline. In this book, Peter Scholze and Jared Weinstein show that the moduli space of mixed-characteristic shtukas is a diamond, raising the possibility of using the cohomology of such spaces to attack the Langlands conjectures for a reductive group over a p-adic field. This book follows the informal style of the original Berkeley lectures, with one chapter per lecture. It explores p-adic and perfectoid spaces before laying out the newer theory of shtukas and their moduli spaces. Points of contact with other threads of the subject, including p-divisible groups, p-adic Hodge theory, and Rapoport-Zink spaces, are thoroughly explained. Berkeley Lectures on p-adic Geometry will be a useful resource for students and scholars working in arithmetic geometry and number theory.
Book Synopsis Geometry of Moduli Spaces and Representation Theory by : Roman Bezrukavnikov
Download or read book Geometry of Moduli Spaces and Representation Theory written by Roman Bezrukavnikov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on lectures given at the Graduate Summer School of the 2015 Park City Mathematics Institute program “Geometry of moduli spaces and representation theory”, and is devoted to several interrelated topics in algebraic geometry, topology of algebraic varieties, and representation theory. Geometric representation theory is a young but fast developing research area at the intersection of these subjects. An early profound achievement was the famous conjecture by Kazhdan–Lusztig about characters of highest weight modules over a complex semi-simple Lie algebra, and its subsequent proof by Beilinson-Bernstein and Brylinski-Kashiwara. Two remarkable features of this proof have inspired much of subsequent development: intricate algebraic data turned out to be encoded in topological invariants of singular geometric spaces, while proving this fact required deep general theorems from algebraic geometry. Another focus of the program was enumerative algebraic geometry. Recent progress showed the role of Lie theoretic structures in problems such as calculation of quantum cohomology, K-theory, etc. Although the motivation and technical background of these constructions is quite different from that of geometric Langlands duality, both theories deal with topological invariants of moduli spaces of maps from a target of complex dimension one. Thus they are at least heuristically related, while several recent works indicate possible strong technical connections. The main goal of this collection of notes is to provide young researchers and experts alike with an introduction to these areas of active research and promote interaction between the two related directions.

Book Synopsis Algebraic Geometry Codes: Advanced Chapters by : Michael Tsfasman
Download or read book Algebraic Geometry Codes: Advanced Chapters written by Michael Tsfasman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-07-02 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebraic Geometry Codes: Advanced Chapters is devoted to the theory of algebraic geometry codes, a subject related to local_libraryBook Catalogseveral domains of mathematics. On one hand, it involves such classical areas as algebraic geometry and number theory; on the other, it is connected to information transmission theory, combinatorics, finite geometries, dense packings, and so on. The book gives a unique perspective on the subject. Whereas most books on coding theory start with elementary concepts and then develop them in the framework of coding theory itself within, this book systematically presents meaningful and important connections of coding theory with algebraic geometry and number theory. Among many topics treated in the book, the following should be mentioned: curves with many points over finite fields, class field theory, asymptotic theory of global fields, decoding, sphere packing, codes from multi-dimensional varieties, and applications of algebraic geometry codes. The book is the natural continuation of Algebraic Geometric Codes: Basic Notions by the same authors. The concise exposition of the first volume is included as an appendix.

Book Synopsis The Geometry and Topology of Coxeter Groups by : Michael Davis
Download or read book The Geometry and Topology of Coxeter Groups written by Michael Davis and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Geometry and Topology of Coxeter Groups is a comprehensive and authoritative treatment of Coxeter groups from the viewpoint of geometric group theory. Groups generated by reflections are ubiquitous in mathematics, and there are classical examples of reflection groups in spherical, Euclidean, and hyperbolic geometry. Any Coxeter group can be realized as a group generated by reflection on a certain contractible cell complex, and this complex is the principal subject of this book. The book explains a theorem of Moussong that demonstrates that a polyhedral metric on this cell complex is nonpositively curved, meaning that Coxeter groups are "CAT(0) groups." The book describes the reflection group trick, one of the most potent sources of examples of aspherical manifolds. And the book discusses many important topics in geometric group theory and topology, including Hopf's theory of ends; contractible manifolds and homology spheres; the Poincaré Conjecture; and Gromov's theory of CAT(0) spaces and groups. Finally, the book examines connections between Coxeter groups and some of topology's most famous open problems concerning aspherical manifolds, such as the Euler Characteristic Conjecture and the Borel and Singer conjectures.
