Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ...behind the scenes of this [Paul's] power-packed letter... -Wayne Jacobsen, Author He Loves Me and So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore ...story-like narration and floodlight insight... -John Lindner, President, World Christian Ministries; Editor, World Christian Ministries Newsletter; Author: God's Special Agents and The Mountains Shall Sing ...readable, and yet profoundly poignant... -Mark Haskins, PhD., Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia A recent survey of self-identified Christians by noted researcher George Barna yielded this astonishing result: fully 81% of those surveyed said that maturity in Christ is measured by how well one keeps the rules. But when did 'keeping the rules' become a benchmark of those who follow Christ? And how have we traded in the Life giving power of the Lord Jesus for a set of restrictions? In his new book, Walking the Galatian Road, Moving from Law to Life, Lance Thollander peels back the layers of how we got there and shows present-day believers how to leave a life characterized by legalism and guilt and return to the freedom of living by Christ. Motivated by forty years of experience including relationships with God's people in many parts of the world, Thollander gives examples to show how the incredible vitality and freedom found in Paul's letter to the Galatians has been stolen away from believers. Then he returns the readers to the simplicity of life in the Spirit. A powerful combination of history and present-day reality in an easy-to-read format, this book takes the pressure off worn-out Christians to perform. If you are looking for a book that can restore your 'first love' relationship with your Heavenly Father; that takes a fearless look at how guilt has operated to short circuit your faith; and that provides frequent invitations for the reader to stop and spend time in the presence of a liberating and loving God, then Walking the Galatian Road, Moving from Law to Life is the book for you.

Book excerpt: Every generation of Christians struggle, worry, fight, work, pray, strive, and compete instead of resting in the truth of what Christ has already done. If you know in your heart that you are struggling, not experiencing the fullness of His divine nature, not allowing Christ to fully live His life in and through you but you want Him to; then read on. The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 2:20, "I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. So I live my life in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." The Christian life is not trying to live for Jesus, it's trusting Jesus to live it through you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul's letter to the churches of Galatia was for many years a document of special interestand study for renowned New Testament scholar F. F. Bruce. This excellent volume in theNew International Greek Testament Commentary series contains Bruce's mature work onthat important early epistle. Through phrase-by-phrase exegesis of the Greek text, consistent awareness of the historicaland geographical context, and balanced dialogue with scores of other scholars, Brucesuccessfully bridges the hermeneutical gap and makes the text of Galatians come alive forboth scholars and students. Based on careful historical-critical-linguistic exegesis yet primarilytheological in character, this commentary places special emphasis throughout onPaul's insistence on justification before God by faith apart from works of the law, and onPaul's presentation of the Spirit as the principle of the new life in Christ.
Book Synopsis The Road from Damascus by : Richard N. Longenecker

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conversion is intrinsic to the Christian Religion. The most remarkable conversion recorded in the New Testament is that of Paul, and most Christians consider Christ's encounter with Paul to be a prototype of Christian conversion generally. This collection of eleven essays give Paul's conversion a firmer rootage in the biblical materials while also emphasizing personal application. The contributors examine the nature of Paul's Damascus Road experience and the impact of that experience on his thought and ministry, and explore how Paul's experience functions as a paradigm for Christian thought and action today.
Book Synopsis Stony the Road We Trod by : Cain Hope Felder

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of Stony the Road We Trod thirty years ago marked the emergence of a critical mass of Black biblical scholars--as well as a distinct set of hermeneutical concerns. Combining sophisticated exegesis with special sensitivity to issues of race, class, and gender, the authors of this scholarly collection examine the nettling questions of biblical authority, Black and African people in biblical narratives, and the liberating aspects of Scripture. The original volume reshaped and redefined the questions, concerns, and scholarship that determine how the Bible is appropriated by the church, the academy, and the larger society today. To the original eleven essays this expanded edition adds a new introduction by Brian K. Blount and three new chapters by Kimberly D. Russaw, Shively T. J. Smith, and Jennifer T. Kaalund. Not only does Blount's new introduction access the impact of the first edition, but the new contributions extend the implications of Cain Hope Felder's vision for the book.

Book Synopsis The Road to Holocaust by : Hal Lindsey
Download or read book The Road to Holocaust written by Hal Lindsey and published by Bantam. This book was released on 1990-05-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is the bestselling author of The Late Great Planet Earth's most shocking revelation ever: the disquieting facts about a new spiritual movement that would take over our churches and government and lead us to disaster. Just as current events are converging into the precise pattern the biblical prophets predicted would herald the return of Jesus Christ, a new movement has arisen within the Evangelical Church that denies it all, allegorizing away the clear meaning of prophecy. This movement, commonly known as Dominion Theology, reintroduces an old error that brought catastrophe to the Church and the Dark Ages to the world—the same error that founded a legacy of contempt for the Jews and ultimately led to the Holocaust in Nazi Germany. In clear, compelling language, Hal Lindsey sounds a vital warning about Dominion Theology—and explains why he believes it poses such a great danger not only to Israel but to every Christian as well.
Download or read book The Galatians written by John D. Grainger and published by Pen and Sword History. This book was released on 2020-08-30 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A historian of the ancient world examines the epic rise and fall of the Celtic tribes who invaded the Mediterranean and lands further east. The eastern Celtic tribes, known to the Greeks as Galatians, exploited the waning of Macedonian power after Alexander the Great’s death to launch increasingly ambitious raids and expeditions into the Balkans. In 279 BC they launched a major invasion, defeating and beheading the Macedonian king, Ptolemy Keraunos, before sacking the Greeks’ most sacred oracle at Delphi. Eventually forced to withdraw northwards, they were defeated by Antigonus Gonatus at Lysimachia in 277 BC but remained a threat. A large Galatian contingent was invited to cross to Asia to intervene in a war in Bithynia but they went on to seize much of central Anatolia for themselves, founding the state of Galatia. They remained a force in the region and their warriors served as mercenaries in many armies throughout the eastern Mediterranean. In this authoritative history, John Grainger explores the fortunes of these eastern Celts down to their eventual subjugation by the Romans, Galatia becoming a Roman province in 30 BC.

Book Synopsis The Colonizers' Idols by : Christina Harker
Download or read book The Colonizers' Idols written by Christina Harker and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, Christina Harker deconstructs the prevailing treatment of the New Testament as anti-imperial by contextualizing both New Testament scholarship and the Galatian experience within imperialist discourses that survived the dissolution of conventional empires in the twentieth century. She critiques simplistic treatments of empire as post-imperial (that is, replicating patterns of imperialist ideology, albeit unwittingly). To solve the problem, a new interpretation of Galatians is proposed that reworks and complicates the portrait of the Galatians themselves, rather than Paul, within what then emerges as a diverse social world peopled by complex individuals with heterogeneous social and cultural identities. The author is thus able to show how New Testament scholars who rehabilitate the Bible and Paul as anti-empire perpetuate the same imperialist modes of interpretation they seek to repudiate.

Book Synopsis The Village in Antiquity and the Rise of Early Christianity by : Alan Cadwallader
Download or read book The Village in Antiquity and the Rise of Early Christianity written by Alan Cadwallader and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-28 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete geographical and thematic overview of the village in an antiquity and its role in the rise of Christianity. The volume begins with a state-of-question introduction by Thomas Robinson, assessing the interrelation of the village and city with the rise of early Christianity. Alan Cadwallader then articulates a methodology for future New Testament studies on this topic, employing a series of case studies to illustrate the methodological issues raised. From there contributors explore three areas of village life in different geographical areas, by means of a series of studies, written by experts in each discipline. They discuss the ancient near east (Egypt and Israel), mainland and Isthmian Greece, Asia Minor, and the Italian Peninsula. This geographic focus sheds light upon the villages associated with the biblical cities (Israel; Corinth; Galatia; Ephesus; Philippi; Thessalonica; Rome), including potential insights into the rural nature of the churches located there. A final section of thematic studies explores central issues of local village life (indigenous and imperial cults, funerary culture, and agricultural and economic life).
