Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank Field was commission by the Prime Minister in June 2010 to provide an independent review on poverty and life chances. This is the final report and the aim of the review was to; generate a broader debate about the nature and extent of poverty in the UK, examine the case for reforms to poverty measures, in particular for the inclusion of non-financial elements, explore how a child's home environment affect their chances of being ready to take full advantage of their schooling, recommend potential action by government and other institution to reduce poverty and enhance life chances for the least advantage consistent with the Government's fiscal strategy. The report demands a broadening of the attack on child poverty and supplies overwhelming evidence that children's life chances are most heavily predicated on their development in the first five years of like. Its family background, parental education, good parenting and the opportunities for learning and development in those crucial years that together matter more to children than money. The Review has concluded that the UK needs to address the issue of child poverty in a fundamentally different way if it is to make a real change to children's life chances as an adult.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revolutionary work that guides new parents in helping their baby form healthy movements, strong muscles, and a fit body during the child’s critical first year of life, filled with vital information and over 400 full-color photographs that clearly show how to create a strong foundation for a baby’s musculoskeletal health and future wellness A child’s first steps are one of the great miracles in life—one we think of as a natural, essential, intuitive process. But just as new parents foster positive digestive, emotional, and intellectual growth, we cannot leave it to nature and instinct alone to ensure that infants develop the strong musculoskeletal foundation they need. Little bodies are malleable: nerves are elongating, bones are hardening, muscles are strengthening—newborns are a never-ending process of physical change. The problem is that the car seat, the bouncer, the carrier, the crib, the pack-n-play—the very devices modern parents depend on for hands-free parenting—leave that precious developing bundle at the mercy of gravity and passive, bodyweight-based alignment. Shaping Your Baby’s Foundation gives new parents the information they need to safely and effectively build their baby’s muscle tone, strengthen the child’s growing body, and set their newborn on the path for a lifetime of wellness. Shaping Your Baby’s Foundation isn’t about hitting milestones (for example, walking early can mean a child missed some key areas of strengthening at earlier stages), it’s about growing well. Jen Goodman gives parents the tools they need to give their baby a body that will be strong and balanced by the time the child is vertical. By helping a baby meet gravity’s challenges during the first year of life, this book vastly increases the chances of that baby later remaining strong, fit, and healthy as a toddler, teen, and adult. Written in Goodman’s gentle and accessible, yet authoritative, voice, and aided by over 400 full-color photographs to guide parents step-by-step through the first year of their baby’s life, Shaping Your Baby’s Foundation is a revolutionary parenting bible for a new generation.

This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been approximately 40 years since these articles have been written. Many of the truths in them are not being taught today. You will find some of them in certain books compiled by Elijah Muhammad and then others may surface every now and then in photocopy or a citing here and there. In any case, these articles represent those submitted to various new organs of the early 50's and 60's. Some of these newspapers are no longer in business and others have simply gone through economic and social change prompting them to change their name and management. In the early days, when there was no Muhammad Speaks newspaper, which had become the official newspaper of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad submitted articles to various local papers for publication. Some of these newspapers were the Herald Dispatch, Amsterdam News, The Crusader and the Pittsburgh Courier. In various instances, after submitting articles, the Brotherhood of the Fruit of Islam (FOI) would begin distributing the papers in an effort to get the articles in Black people's hand. The sharp increase in distribution produced leverage with the paper that gave an "insurance" that the Messenger would be published. It was due to the Nation of Islam's distribution of many of these papers that pushed it into the status of mainstream in the black community. Previously, these tabloids were no more than nickel and dime shopper guides. Some of these articles are included in parts of Elijah Muhammad's books, as pointed out in their respective acknowledgements, making it clear that all of his books are actual compilations of previous speeches, articles and lectures. Considering the Messenger is one of the most prolific writers of our time, many of his articles were not included in his standard books. This work fell to those of us who understand that the guidance we need in his absence is in his literature. This is nothing new to those who mind. Our motivation for publishing these articles is simple. There are many truths that Messenger Elijah Muhammad taught that are not available today. We, therefore, are rising to the occasion to satisfy this vacuum. "In the absence of the Trainer, the training will rise up and meet the occasion." We trust that if the reader reads something he or she has read before, it will only enhance their knowledge base. There, however, are many items that will be fairly new to you. We hope that whatever experience one has, it will be one that benefits our nation and in this way, regardless of when or if you have read it, you will act upon the principle contained herein. For as Elijah Muhammad, Messenger of Allah, said, "Mere belief counts for nothing, unless carried into practice." Nasir Makr Hakim Minister of Elijah Muhammad, Messenger of Allah

Book excerpt: This book provides a timely overview of the revised Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and explores what this means for early years' pedagogy and practice. As well as discussing the philosophy and rationale underpinning the changes, there are practical suggestions to support practitioners with the implementation of the revised framework, as well as insights from experienced professionals who share their knowledge and understanding and support you in reflecting on your own principles and practice. The book: Fosters deep understanding of the revised EYFS framework Provides a valuable source of reference for early years students and practitioners Promotes and helps develop good practice in early years Offers reflections and insights from experienced professionals into key areas of practice Makes links between the EYFS and current research, theory and practice The book draws on a wealth of expertise to provide an essential handbook for all early years students, practitioners and academics who are privileged to be involved with the care and education of young children. "This contemporary and relevant text explores, from multiple perspectives, the key challenges facing early years practitioners at a time of unprecedented change in education. It systematically explores and offers insights into the many agencies including education, health and social care that work together to enable high quality early years practice to be developed. By drawing on a range of professionals in the field, it challenges the reader to critically analyse the characteristics of effective early learning and to consider the key underpinning pedagogy that informs it. It is accessible to a wide audience including students, researchers, teacher trainers and practitioners. I would strongly recommend it as a set text on our Primary and Early Years PGCE course." Derval Carey-Jenkins, Principal Lecturer: PGCE Primary and Early Years Course Leader, University of Worcester, UK "This contemporary book focusing on the new Early Years Foundation Stage is an essential read for those studying and delivering early years curriculum and pedagogy. The book draws on theory, research, policy and practice and ensures that the chapters have significance to all early years practitioners. It challenges the reader to think reflectively about the EYFS and what is appropriate provision to support and develop young children's learning. The book is effectively organised into four relevant parts and is a very accessible read, often exemplifying high quality provision through interesting research observations, case studies and scenarios." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Situational Judgement Test for the Foundation Years Programme' has been specially designed to help you achieve the highest possible mark in the UKFPO SJT exam. This 2nd edition, in line with the latest GMC Good Medical Practice 2013 Guidelines, contains a wide range of SJT scenarios to ensure that all the core Foundation Programme competencies are comprehensively covered. The SJTs contained in this book have been through a rigorous appraisal process that brought together the experiences of over 50 doctors from varying levels and specialities, including multiple Foundation Training Programme Directors. This ensured that the scenarios, and their respective responses, were valid and relevant to both the SJT exam, and the Foundation Programme curriculum. The book also involved professionals with backgrounds inclusive of medical law, medical ethics, psychology and medical education, all of whom helped in sewing together realistic and challenging scenarios with valuable learning points. The questions in this book were piloted amongst junior doctors to further help validate the consistency of the responses. The explanations provided in this book are supported by numerous references to the GMC guidelines, in order to maximise their reliability, and provide a clear rationale for the correct answers. A number of the doctors who participated in the design of this book had firsthand experience of the National SJT Pilot Exam, and thus provided a unique insight into question format, style and design. This book not only offers valuable exam practice, but also equips the reader with the skills, aptitude and knowledge base to effectively cope with complex scenarios as they move on to their working life.
