Book excerpt: An unwillingness to forgive can destroy us, rob us of joy and peace, and it can dismantle our relationships. True forgiveness, by its nature, forces us to sign an unspoken contract about an offense that tried to alter our world. Sometimes we forgivers move forward in humility because it's our turn to ask someone we've offended to forgive us, to restore us to the relationship we both hoped for as our friendship, marriage, or work relationship began developing. We eventually feel good about a cleared conscience. And then there are the big ones, those "I-don't-think-I-could-ever-forgive" situations. Some contributors in this anthology struggled to forgive abusers and even killers. When they finally were able to do that, they were rewarded. Following most accounts, thoughts and questions are included to help a reader or discussion group personalize what was just read. A basic truth that anchored most contributors is that because we have been forgiven much, we can forgive. This is Margery Kisby Warder's second anthology. The first, Celebrating Christmas, had forty contributors who found writing about Christmas help fulfill more of their dreams about getting published. However, writing about forgiveness required authors to dig deeper because each account had to be lifted from a real life experience. Transitions have been included between the entries, and the readers may skip around to find situations particularly helpful to them. Suitable for private reading or group discussion, the contributors hope their experiences will help others deal with whatever tough situations they encounter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We know we’re supposed to forgive, but we just can’t forget. And it’s that struggle in our soul that keeps our hurts and hearts from being healed – creating a gap between our pain and the peace we’re so desperate for to seem completely unbridgeable. When it comes to forgiveness, we so easily confuse God’s love with our own and find ourselves frustrated and confused without a clear understanding of what God is really asking us to do. It’s through The Forgiveness Factor that you’ll come to clearly understand what God means when He says to ‘forgive’. And more than likely, it’s not what you think. It’s in uncovering the truth about forgiveness, by revealing the lies, that you’ll be set free from the burden that forgiveness seems to bring. You’ll realize that you’re only giving up your hope for a different past ... realizing that wrongs may never be made right, but they can be forgiven.

Book excerpt: Scott Bradley, former pastor and community leader, shares his story while integrating sound principles for change. His father was a wounded Vietnam War hero that struggled with flashbacks and PTSD upon his return. He abused Scott's mom, others, and eventually killed a man. After several prison sentences, failed marriages, and substance abuse, he gave his life to Christ. He is now an ordained minister, elder, and jail chaplain. Scott's mom experienced the pain of failed relationships, broken dreams, and trauma. In response to her pain, she chose a healthy lifestyle by honoring God. She remarried and now mentors other women. With a deep level of transparency, Scott invites readers into his life. He describes the challenge of growing up with abuse, addiction, and abandonment issues. His story is one of tragedy and hope. He's been married for eleven years with two daughters. His family has reconciled and is committed to helping others. Real hope is found in Jesus Christ, The Forgiveness Factor.

Book excerpt: God made your heart for love, joy, peace, and wholeness. But pastors say that more than 90% of their congregations struggle with unforgiveness - and unforgiveness can make us forget what we were made for. What if the most pervasive sin of our day is invisible, hidden deep inside our hearts? What if it affects every aspect of our lives and relationships so quietly and insidiously that most of us miss it altogether? Bruce Wilkinson believes unforgiveness is that sin. Through the teachings of Jesus, The Freedom Factor reveals the link between our suffering and our unforgiveness. But it also shows how to forgive - for real and forever. The story doesn't have to end with the pain of our wounds. Whatever happened to us happened. But the God who made your heart has shown a way past the wounds, back to the life and love that we were made for - a path toward freedom.

Book excerpt: From issues of racism to the severity of concussions to celebrity endorsements, the sports industry continues to significantly impact society. With the rise of eSports and its projection as the next billion dollar industry, it is vital that a multifaceted approach to sports research be undertaken. On one side, businesses are continually offering new methods for marketing and branding and finding the best ways to enhance consumer engagement and the consumer experience. On the other side, there has been progress and new findings in the physical fitness and training of the athletes themselves along with discussions on their psychology and wellbeing. This two-tiered approach to analyzing sports and eSports from a practical business perspective, along with a lens placed on the athletes themselves, provides a comprehensive view of the current advancements, technologies, and strategies within various aspects of the sports and esports industry. Research Anthology on Business Strategies, Health Factors, and Ethical Implications in Sports and eSports covers the latest findings on all factors of sports: the branding and marketing of sports and eSports, studies on athletes and consumers, a dive into the ethics of sports, and the introduction of eSports to the industry. This wide coverage of all fields of research recently conducted leads this book to be a well-rounded view of how sports are functioning in modern times. Highlighted topics include branding tactics, consumer engagement, eSports history and technologies, ethics and law, and psychological studies of athlete wellness. Book excerpt: Gary Inrig brings wonderful breadth, depth, and balance to a very difficult subject: forgiveness. As one 83-year-old theologian, Rev. Herb VanderLugt, says, "This is the best book on the subject I have ever read." Whether it's living forgiven, learning to forgive, what to do when an offender refuses to request forgiveness, whether we're asking, giving, or waiting for forgiveness, this book covers the subject with Inrig's on-the-mark illustrations and solid biblical teaching. It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of the subject of forgiveness to the Christian faith. If the Bible makes it clear that Christians are forgiven people, it also makes it clear that we are to be forgiving people. How and when do we do that? What does it look like?

Book excerpt: A fascinating book about our struggle to forgive—and how we can—from a renowned psychologist and award-winning author. Why do we harden our hearts, even against those we want to love? Why do we find it so hard to admit being wrong? Why are the worst grudges the ones we hold against ourselves? When we nurse our resentments, Robert Karen says, we are acting from an insecure aspect of the self that harbors unresolved pain from childhood. But we also have a forgiving self which is not compliant or fake, but rather the strongest, most loving part of who we are. Through it, we are able to voice anger without doing damage, to acknowledge our own part in what has gone wrong, to see the flaws in ourselves and others as part of our humanity. Using movies, people in the news, and sessions from his practice, Karan illuminate how we can move beyond our feelings of being wronged without betraying our legitimate anger and need for repair. The forgiving self, when we are able to locate it, brings relief from compulsive self-hatred and bitterness, and allows for a re-emergence of love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Forgiveness Myth, a bold, ground-breaking book, refutes the notion that those who have been hurt cannot recover their inner peace and happiness unless, and until, they forgive. For centuries, forgiveness has been assumed to be the only legitimate way to recover from interpersonal hurts. Yet millions are either unable or unwilling to forgive, including many who have gone through divorce, suffered abuse, or are in recovery or therapy. Countless individuals who have suffered discrimination due to their sexuality, race, religion, or ethnicity also resist or reject forgiving. And many who aren't able to forgive themselves are prisoners of unresolved feelings of guilt, regret, or shame. The Forgiveness Myth explains why forgiving doesn't always work and what readers can do instead to reclaim their peace and happiness. There are times when forgiving works very well, and times when an alternative approach will be more effective. Readers are encouraged to choose what works best for them.
