Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was conducted to document and analyze the financing flows and flows of people in adult vocational education in the Netherlands. The study sought to determine the following: (1) the activities geared to adult vocational education; (2) the flows of people into and out of adult vocational education; and (3) the financial flows, the allocation of funds, and the financial instruments. The study reported very preliminary findings only because of time constraints and the extremely complex nature of vocational education in the Netherlands. Some of the findings were as follows: (1) adult vocational education is still in the developmental stages; (2) new legislation on vocational education is still in preparation; and (3) data on content and finances are too fragmented to present a general picture. The study found that despite the growing interest in adult vocational education, the money spent on it in the Netherlands is modest compared to other European Economic Community states. The study discovered that from 1980 to 1985 participation in adult education increasingly became an activity for young people (aged 16 to 24), men, employees, and the better educated. It also found that larger firms are more likely to provide training than smaller firms. The study recommended that more attention be paid to training older workers, since there will soon be fewer young workers. (Appendices include technical data on the study, examples of financial and labor market policy instruments, the questionnaire for a survey of company training programs, and data tables. There are 36 references.) (KC)
Book Synopsis International Comparisons of Vocational Education and Training for Intermediate Skills by : Paul Ryan
Download or read book International Comparisons of Vocational Education and Training for Intermediate Skills written by Paul Ryan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Ryan has brought together the writings of the most prominent British research into vocational preparation in Britain in comparison to the other advanced economies, primarily within the EEC. The book, originally published in 1991, documents various aspects of inadequacy in British practice at the time, concentrating upon intermediate skills, which are of crucial importance for economic performance. The introduction outlines the strengths and weaknesses of comparative research. Part 1 discusses the use which has been made of it by policy makers in Britain and various aspects of comparative methods in practical comparisons, including an Anglo-Scottish one. Part 2 concerns vocational preparation in connection with productivity and produce markets, noting its importance for economic performance and its dependence upon companies’ product choices. Part 3 contains studies of the organization of skills and work and the finance of training within the EEC as a whole. Part 4 comprises studies of training in relation to labour market structures, each of which indicates similar alternatives for training policy in Britain – alternatives whose relevance and political prospects can only be enhanced by the demise of Thatcher government deregulatory policies.

Download or read book Political Economy of Adult Learning Systems written by Richard Desjardins and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on comparative adult education statistics offered by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) and country case studies, this book analyses the policies and structures that foster adult learning. It examines a variety of forms of adult learning, ranging from initial forms of post-compulsory education, such as upper secondary tracks and tertiary education, to firm training, compensatory adult education and learning for civic and leisure oriented purposes. Throughout the book, adult learning systems are directly linked to a variety of structural and public policy frameworks using a comparative welfare state approach. Themes such as pathways to learning and transition systems, participation patterns in higher education and participation patterns in other organized forms of adult learning are covered. The countries discussed are the UK, the USA, Korea, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands. Situated at the intersection between scholarship and policy and using a mixed-methods approach, this title contributes fundamental insights into the further study of policies and structures related to alternative post-compulsory learning pathways.
Book Synopsis Vocational Education and Training in the Netherlands by : Leon Römkens
Download or read book Vocational Education and Training in the Netherlands written by Leon Römkens and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The structure, history, objectives, and delivery of vocational education in the Netherlands were characterized through a review of existing documents explaining/regulating the Dutch vocational system and input from representatives of government, business, and labor. Vocational education was discussed within the context of the Dutch political and administrative structure, population and labor force, economy, and educational system as a whole, and its development was traced from the integration of vocational education into secondary education in 1968. Initial training and the training of employees and employers in the Netherlands were detailed along with the legislative and financial framework of vocational education. Employment trends and the present/future position of various target groups and vocational education's present and likely future were outlined. The following were among the policy dilemmas identified: tension between substantial growth in participation in higher forms of education and the improvement of success rates; special needs of late developers and dropouts; need to determine the optimum blend of government control and independence; and conflicting demands for higher levels of vocational education and limits on public spending. (Contains 28 tables/figures. Appended are the following: a list of acronyms/abbreviations; names/addresses of 20 agencies/organizations and social partners; a 14-item bibliography; and glossary.)
