Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whatever your current condition in life presents to you, whether good or bad, is not by happenstance. God has divine reasons, and his plan for your life is perfect. As 2 Timothy 4:7 says, 'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.' God already has your destiny established and it is waiting for you to claim. You have to fight that good fight, keeping the faith that God will supply your needs in hard times. God is with you although you may not feel his presence. God sometimes requires us to get out of the boat, like Peter, to show our faith and believe that he is with us. Let us get out of the boat and walk on faith as this book inspires for us to fight the good fight.

Book excerpt: God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 This book is a cry from the heart of John Piper. He is pleading that God himself, as revealed in Christ's death and resurrection, is the ultimate and greatest gift of the gospel. None of Christ's gospel deeds and none of our gospel blessings are good news except as means of seeing and savoring the glory of Christ. Forgiveness is good news because it opens the way to the enjoyment of God himself. Justification is good news because it wins access to the presence and pleasures of God himself. Eternal life is good news because it becomes the everlasting enjoyment of Christ. All God's gifts are loving only to the degree that they lead us to God himself. That is what God's love is: his commitment to do everything necessary (most painfully the death of his only Son) to enthrall us with what is most deeply and durably satisfying-namely, himself. Saturated with Scripture, centered on the cross, and seriously joyful, this book leads us to satisfaction for the deep hungers of the soul. It touches us at the root of life where practical transformation gets its daily power. It awakens our longing for Christ and opens our eyes to his beauty. Piper writes for the soul-thirsty who have turned away empty and in desperation from the mirage of methodology. He invites us to slow down and drink from a deeper spring. "This is eternal life," Jesus said, "that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." This is what makes the gospel-and this book-good news.

Book excerpt: In this long-anticipated sequel to his jarring takedown of professional sports, The Fix Is In, internationally recognized game fixing expert and scholarly authority Brian Tuohy further reveals the truths all sports fans need to know. Based on dedicated research and previously unreleased FBI files, each chapter exposes sports in a manner none of the major leagues’ broadcast partners would dare attempt. No sport or league is spared as Tuohy rips through not only the likes of the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and NASCAR, but also the PGA, UFC, eSports, horse racing, boxing, and both NCAA football and basketball. Along the way, championships are revealed as frauds, referees are exposed as accomplices, and legends are demolished. No sports fans should watch another game until they read this book and understand what truly is being presented as “pure” in America’s professional sports leagues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we look at “before,” it is a word that we will experience at some point in our life. Why? I’m glad you asked. We all have had a before: “before I was this” or “before I was that.” Most importantly, you must or will have a period of time preceding. It may a date, event, or time in your before that prepares you for your after. In your before, it’s the preparation for but the anticipation of after that is birthed out of your before. When a woman is pregnant, she experiences the trimesters. The first trimester is the first twelve weeks, where you may not look pregnant but the body is going through enormous changes. The second trimester is thirteen to twenty-seven weeks and is normally the most comfortable period of the pregnancy because most of the early symptoms will be over, though a few new symptoms will start, like heartburn and leg cramps. The third trimester is the twenty-eighth week through to the birthing of the baby, then the body goes back but to another level of change. She starts to really feel the weight of the baby she’s carrying. There will be more visits to the doctor to check blood pressure, test urine, listen to the fetal heart rate, and measure the fundal height and the length of the uterus. Finally, she reaches the full term, the water breaks, and the child comes forth. Medical science says that when a woman is having a baby, she will have the most stress, tension, and pressure on her heart and body that a woman ever experiences through all the trimesters in the before leading up to the baby being born. After the baby is delivered, she is in the mother’s arms and care. The mother remembers the before, but the after makes it so joyful and happy to the point that she remembers the stage of trimesters and pain but only from a place of grace and gratitude because she went from the three trimesters to a new semester, a life of joy with her baby. Remember again that your before is the very catalyst to your after.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh and incisive examination of one of the Second World War's crucial campaigns, the battle for Normandy in the months after D-Day. What happened to the Allied armies in Normandy in the months after D-Day, 1944? Why, after the initial success of the landings, did their advance stall a few miles inland from the beaches? Why did the British take so long to capture Caen? Why did the US infantry struggle so much in the bocage south of Omaha beach? Who was right about the conduct of the land campaign - Eisenhower or Montgomery? How did the Germans, deprived of air support, manage to hold off such a massive Allied force for more than two months? And if Enigma was allowing the Allies to read German battleplans, why did things go wrong as often as they did? THE BATTLE OF NORMANDY re-examines the demands and difficulties of the campaign and sheds new light on both with the aid of accounts from veterans on both sides. (Oral history forms a large part of the book.) It also analyses in detail the plans and performance of the commanders involved: Eisenhower, Bradley, Patton, Montgomery, Crerar and, of course, Rommel. Controversial and at times catastrophic, the Battle of Normandy was the last great set-piece battle in history and is long overdue for reassessment.

Features maps throughout. "An unparalleled achievement, an American Iliad, a unique work uniting the scholarship of the historian and the high readability of the first-class novelist." —Walker Percy “To read this chronicle is an awesome and moving experience. History and literature are rarely so thoroughly combined as here; one finishes this volume convinced that no one need undertake this particular enterprise again.” —Newsweek “In objectivity, in range, in mastery of detail, in beauty of language and feeling for the people involved, this work surpasses anything else on the subject. . . . Written in the tradition of the great historian-artists—Gibbon, Prescott, Napier, Freeman—it stands alongside the work of the best of them.” —The New Republic “The most written-about war in history has, with this completion of Shelby Foote’s trilogy, been given the epic treatment it deserves.” —Providence Journal
