Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this book is to inspire and validate those suffering from mysterious chronic pain, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. When you read about someone else and their experiences it has the ability to validate your suffering. When you see how others deal with this disability, it can inspire you to know there are others that have a life and can do something with their life in the face of the unrepentant fibromyalgia. This book is written by someone who, at the time of this printing has had fibromyalgia for thirty-two years, diagnosed for twelve years (a man with fibromyalgia). This isn't a book that will help you get rid of fibromyalgia because even though the medical community is now starting to recognize the illness, they far from a cure. How can you cure something you don't even know the cause of?Reading about someone else's journey with fibromyalgia and how it affects them is interesting and compelling to those of us with fibromyalgia. It's is interesting to see how others deal with this very real and very miserable disease. This memoir gives you an inspirational, entertaining and validating way to do that. You are not a lone.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For twenty-five years, Nancy Alexander battled a mysterious illness without a diagnosis. Despite spells of total debilitation and hospitalizations with no answers, she managed to fight through and raise two sons and create a successful business. Like many marriages where chronic illness is at the forefront, Nancy's suffered. This is her story of fighting the medical system to receive a diagnosis and to not only save her marriage to Steve but restore it to a place of joy. Years of rumors from doctors and friends, the ravages on her body from disease, and the rescue in the form of a doctor and nutritionist all culminated into a place of wellness that Nancy now shares with her readers. Though she didn't always know it during her journey, God's hand guided and protected her and Steve. Nancy's story will uplift and encourage those with chronic illness that answers are worth fighting for, and God's strength is sufficient on even the worse days. Review by Jim Cockrum of My Silent Team: "I love to surround myself with people who challenge me. Those rare souls who endure and persist and eventually find a way to overcome impossible odds with determination and focus to ignite something unique and special inside us. You simply can't have too many people like that in your life. Prepare to add Nancy to your list of champions. This book is not "Nancy and Steve's story of tragedy and triumph." It's far more. it's a finely tuned weapon of spiritual warfare that our father has been sharpening ("on the anvil" to borrow a phrase from Lucado) for quite some time now - and it's about to do some serious damage in the spiritual realm." Review by Sue Mellette: "Nancy, I felt at times I was feeling your pain, bewilderment & your desperate need to find help. Your story is much more than fighting Fibromyalgia and learning to live with it. It is a love story of finding the love a husband and wife should have for each other. It is a love story that through your finding the Lord and knowing that He does not forsake us even in our darkest hours, He has a plan for you and your husband. Your story is open, brutally honest, and forthright. Yes, it brought me to tears at times and joy at others! It's a great story that could be brought to life on the big screen. It was so vivid and descriptive, I could actually see your struggles. A powerful story about a disease and your diligence in finding exactly what was wrong. You truly are special!" Review by Rita Gallow: "Nancy, Your book is wonderful! You and Steve should be commended for being so open and honest about your private lives. This book did make me cry and when finished, I wanted to give you a big hug. I am convinced this book will help countless people suffering with chronic illnesses & fibromyalgia. For me, the best part was that you and Steve invited Christ into your lives, making Him the center of your marriage. When finished, I had a big smile in my heart! May God bless you and Steve." Review by Hallie Sue Wells: "Nancy, I loved this book! I started out thinking it was going to be a book about Fibromyalgia but was so wrong. It is really a great love story, a mystery, a story of survival and most of all God's grace and strength given to one of his children. I felt so many emotions while engrossed in every page, from frustration, fear and hopelessness to anger and bitterness over things that should not have been then to relief, love and joy as the aftermath of such a devastating, debilitating disease finally started getting answers and healing. While reading I wondered how I would have handled or reacted to each situation and the devastating pain of body and mind. I really doubted that I could have survived. I am so glad that you survived and are now making a difference in so many lives. I'm also glad you have been brave enough to put your life on paper, sharing it with everyone. Your story proves with God, all things really are possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir is about living with fibromyalgia and other mental health illnesses that one encounters on our spiritual path on earth or lack of it. How changing perceptions is key to our soul’s growth and survival. How learning to forgive myself and others and appreciating the lessons they’ve taught me. How my life experiences and attitudes may have caused and contributed to all the unnecessary pain and depression I've experienced. My realization that my broken self and soul has led me to seek spiritual healing has been a journey of finding my true passions and purpose in life despite the diagnosis of multiple mental illnesses turned physical. As the saying goes life experiences have a way of allowing us to become more resilient in life. Whatever negative experience doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. Because, I’ve learned to overcome and accept my conditions I am now living the life of my dreams and have learned the power of positive thinking. I choose to be happy because of where I've come from and where I am now, knowing that life is what we make it. My negative experiences and misfortunes are now considered life lessons learned. I admit that I've lived in the victim hood mentality most of my life and have put up with being mistreated by a few low-vibrational beings, and I forgive them. I now know that they were brought into my life to show me how to become a stronger, caring and assertive person. I love and admire all my past and current partners, friends and family and am learning to appreciate and forgive them for any offences. I am truly thankful for and appreciate those people who have contributed to who I am today. I acknowledge that love is a choice and the acts of love are kindness, patience, acceptance and understanding. I have become aware of our weaknesses as spiritual beings having a human experience. We all have choices and can change or begin a new life at any time on our journey. With love, patience, perseverance and faith in our spiritual divine essence I will continue to strive for a joyous life and hope to inspire those around me to find their peace and joy needed to be healthy and whole again. With the knowledge and wisdom acquired along the way, including the medicine wheel and other holistic healing modalities I’ve been on a road to recovery. By practicing these methods, I’ve become aware of my own self healing abilities to help me maintain a balanced, active, fulfilling lifestyle. As explained by elders and other spiritual guides, we begin with the four directions with the center of the wheel representing the Sacred Mystery that to me relating it to Feng Shui principals means Health. Or from a biopsychosocial perspective means mental health. The teachings of the medicine wheel create a biopsychosocial and spiritual foundation for human behavior and interaction. We are all one on the planes of existence that affect our physical behaviours, our mental thoughts, feelings and spiritual beliefs. My sacred journey in life has proven to make me a stronger more grateful person who is continuously learning to have love and have compassion for others. In order to do this one has to be compassionate and loving towards themselves first. I’ve always known this, but it hasn’t been easy when your self image is diminished for the sake of building up others. I have always felt guilty and selfish for practicing self love. It is obvious that, with all the roles we have in life, as a mother, wife, worker, daughter and friend. That getting hung up on life, being so busy as a caregiver, running errands and demands of others has made it difficult at times to practice self care and self love. After many years of counselling and introspection I now love myself more now than ever and take time for my physical and spiritual needs. Even sometimes compromising intimacy seems elusive to your own desires and dreams. Like millions of people out there, I’ve been dealing with mental health issues such as addictions, depression, low self esteem and these debilitating chronic conditions they call fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and depression throughout my life. Growing up in a prosperity deficient, with a family soup of individuals with dysfunctional habits was not the most enlightening or positive experience one can have, however if you love drama, I’ve had it all.

Book excerpt: Recovery from CFS - 50 Personal Stories is a simple collection of recovery stories from people who have recovered from CFS/ME. Men, women and children from six different countries who were all diagnosed with CFS/ME and who were ill for between 2 and 25 years, have written their own individual and very different accounts of their return to good health and a normal life. At the end of each account they have offered advice, suggested helpful books and websites, and many have even given contact details for readers needing support. The foreword is written by Dr Jacob Teitelbaum, Medical Director of the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers, Inc. USA. Dr Teitelbaum had CFS himself as a medical student and is one of the world's foremost experts in CFS. Two of the stories are written by doctors, including that of Dr Clare Fleming who edited two reports from the UK National Task Force and who contributed to the Action for ME rehabilitation courses. There is also the miraculous story of canoeist Anna Hemmings who returned to win the world championship Gold medal nine months after recovering from CFS. 20% of the book proceeds go to CFS/ME research

Book excerpt: There comes a time in one's life that nothing seems to make sense. My life is normal in every way. Then out of the blue my life is turned upside down. I've read a lot of books on romance, mystery and horror. A lot of them got me so involved I just didn't want to put it down. I never would have dreamed that my life would turn into a nightmare that I could not wake up from. I've read of horrible true life stories happening to other people but it never entered my mind that I would be living my own true horror story. Being in a car wreck is a horror story that no one wants to go through. When you talk of being in a car wreck the first thing that comes to your mind is pain, being out of work and of course the settlement. I didn't think of all the tests and therapy I would have to go through. I believe I can say that most people think of getting better and going back to work pain free. This was not the case for me. I had a pain that started in 1992 and has gone on for 19 years with no let up in sight. Please, read my story because you may be going through this same pain but you have never been able to put a name to it. You haven't been able to get any straight answers for these symptoms. I have and it is called Fibromyalgia. Let me know if this is okay? Linda
