Download or read book No Survivors written by Will Henry and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1950, No Survivors was the first of Will Henry’s many novels based on historic incident. In it he shows what General Custer’s lonely stand and final moments at the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn might have been like, militarily and emotionally. Though the history books say that only the horse Comanche escaped alive, Will Henry creates one other survivor, Colonel John Clayton—and he was doomed, too. The fictional Civil War officer who once saved Custer’s life, Clayton leaves a journal describing his later career on the western frontier. As a civilian scout for the U.S. Army, he tries to head off the Fetterman Massacre. He is captured by Crazy Horse and taken into the Oglala Sioux tribe. For nine years he lives as an Indian—the adopted son of Crazy Horse, an intimate of Sitting Bull, and the husband of a medicine woman. He rides with the Indians against the white invaders, but by 1876 he has to make a choice about who he really is.
Book Synopsis Le Songe Du Vieil Pelerin by : Philippe de Mezieres
Download or read book Le Songe Du Vieil Pelerin written by Philippe de Mezieres and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This French medieval text is now published in its entirety, accompanied by an introduction and extensive synopses in English. Philippe de Mezieres (1327-1405) was a French soldier, publicist and statesman who travelled widely through much of the Christian world and served a number of rulers, particularly the King of Cyprus and Charles V and VI of France. Throughout his life Philippe de Mezieres was obsessed by the ideal that the West must reform itself in the light of the Christian view of the good life and he urged all Christian rulers to join together in a final crusade to liberate the Holy Land and the eastern Christian empires. This is the underlying theme of Le Songe du Vieil Pelerin, Philippe de Mezieres' major work. It is divided into three parts: the first is a wide-ranging survey of the Christian world, the second an examination of the state of France and the third a study of the duties and requirements of authority. The style is highly allegorical but contains much personal observation and historical fact.
