For John Sayer – thief, and bringer of death to many – the same wilderness is haunted by his nemesis. It follows him around the marshes and rivers in many guises. It chases him across the open oceans, around the foetid streets of Rio de Janeiro and back through the dark alleys of old Yarmouth. He knows this Demon will eventually catch up. Then it will drop all of its masks for the final reckoning. Set in Victorian Norfolk, The Faces of the Fiend of Breydon is a tale of fear, obsession, passion, greed, folly, and death. It plays itself out against a vast backdrop of marsh and sky - empty, but for distant, shadowy forms.

William is desperate to repel her from his heart, but everyday he is betrayed by his heart and slowly dies away. Two years he had endured the dark chapter. Along side his heartache lay betrayal. One of his former friends seeks to bury William in his misery, his ego leading him to believe that William had betrayed him since he also felt affection for Fiona. William feels isolated and trapped at the same time. No one will listen to him, and the ones who will are being manipulated against him by Luke. The only one who won't be manipulated is his heart, which speaks of only two resolutions - escape or vengeance. Violence is never the answer - but it is a way to get to it.

Book excerpt: It only takes a moment to change the world. Our past is littered with these moments; from the grandest in the land - a Queen claiming her crown at a Suffolk castle - to the humblest - a workman whitewashing religious pictures in a church. These moments in time helped create our history in East Anglia. In this book, former journalist Peter Sargent takes us on a journey in time, from the mysterious ancient figure of the Green Man in Norwich Cathedral, via the day King Charles II rode a winner at Newmarket's racetrack on to Second World War soldiers preparing for the D-Day landings in woods on the Norfolk-Suffolk border. In this series of short stories, many of which first appeared in the Eastern Daily Press newspaper, encounter famous figures who made their mark on the eastern counties. Here is Oliver Cromwell raising an army, Queen Elizabeth I making a Royal Progress, while her sister Mary plays a game of thrones, highwayman Dick Turpin goes about his nefarious business and Norfolk squire and Britain's first Prime Minister, Robert Walpole, saves the country from financial ruin. You'll also meet less familiar figures and veer off the beaten track. Here are tales of a Cambridgeshire Iron Age 'hill fort', Norfolk's raffish 19th Century bare knuckle boxers and the sailors who fought a huge, but barely remembered, 17th Century sea battle off the Suffolk coast.

Book excerpt: A girl thrown from a church tower, a man sacrificed to Satan, and a priest murdered at the hands of the Devil. "Wow! Even better than Broadland!" Anna Burke When the body of an old man is found lying in the ruins of St Benet's Abbey, his throat cut, a knife resting in his open hand, DI John Tanner and DC Jenny Evans are given no choice but to accept a ruling of death by misadventure. But when the body goes missing from its tomb, after a priest is found nailed to a cross, and another impaled on a stake, everything begins to point back to the murder of a teenage girl, thrown from the top of a church tower, some forty-three years before. Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a murder mystery with a slice of humour and a touch of romance, one that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed. Durrant into David Blake devotees.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three boys, fifteen-year-old Ralph Rover (the narrator), eighteen-year-old Jack Martin and fourteen-year-old Peterkin Gay, are the sole survivors of a shipwreck on the coral reef of a large but uninhabited Polynesian island. At first their life on the island is idyllic; food, in the shape of fruits, fish and wild pigs, is plentiful, and using their only possessions; a broken telescope, an iron-bound oar and a small axe, they fashion a shelter and even construct a small boat. Their first contact with other people comes after several months when they observe two large outrigger canoes land on the beach. The two groups are engaged in battle and the three boys intervene to successfully defeat the attacking party, earning the gratitude of the chief Tararo. The Polynesians leave and the three boys are alone once more. Then more unwelcome visitors arrive in the shape of pirates, who make a living trading, or stealing, sandalwood. The three boys conceal themselves in a hidden cave, but Ralph is captured when he sets out to see if the pirates have left, and is taken aboard the pirate schooner. Ralph strikes up an unexpected friendship with one of the pirates, "Bloody Bill", and when they call at an island to trade for more wood he meets Tararo again. On the island he sees all facets of island life, including the popular sport of surfing, as well as the practice of infanticide and cannibalism. Rising tension leads to an attack by the inhabitants on the pirates, leaving only Ralph alive and Bloody Bill mortally wounded. However they manage to make their escape in the schooner. After Bill dies, making a death-bed repentance for his evil life, Ralph manages to sail back to the Coral Island to be re-united with his friends.

Book excerpt: THE DEBUT CRIME THRILLER OF THE YEAR! "I bloody loved the book. Wow! Loved the twists and turns!" Ali Dunn A girl's body found mutilated by a boat's propeller, another dumped at the bottom of a slipway, and a disused Norfolk mill, hiding the secret to both. "A COLD DENSE shadow fell over Jane Richardson as she hurried along the concrete towpath. To her left, moonlight danced over the River Bure's untroubled surface as it slipped silently past, heading back the way she'd come. A low-hanging branch scratched at her face as she ducked underneath. From somewhere far behind her came the shriek of laughter, slicing through the air, only to fall silent a moment later to leave nothing but the sound of her high heels, click-clacking out a stark but steady beat." When a girl's body is found strangled, raped, and horrifically mutilated by a boat's propeller, deep in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, newly arrived Detective Inspector John Tanner is asked to assist with the investigation. At first, all the evidence points to a man who had a multi-million pound reason to kill her. But when an alibi is produced from an unexpected source, and another body appears at the base of a slipway, Tanner finds himself turning to local girl, Detective Constable Jenny Evans for help. As a more intimate relationship begins between them, they find themselves facing a race against time to identify a lethal adversary, one with a lust for blood and a mind set on revenge. Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a cozy murder mystery that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed. Broadland is a totally addictive crime thriller, the first in a chilling series of serial killer books, ones which will rapidly convert followers of Faith Martin, Joy Ellis, Damien Boyd, Michael Hambling and Helen H. Durrant into David Blake devotees.
